Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

I think the only ones that didn't get made that people seem to want are:

SALLAH
MARION
MOLA RAM
ToD INDY
MAP ROOM INDY
SHORT ROUND (for some)

Beyond that, not much else has been mentioned. So would that be enough to satisfy?

Me? I'm crazy. I'd love a Ratty Nepalese and Monkey Man and German Mechanic too. But that's me.

Sallah and Marion are my top two requests behind Mola and TOD Indy but SSC has said over and over that neither Sallah nor Marion is even being considered. I'm actually kind of surprised they didn't do a Spalko or Mutt when dipping into the KOTCS pool....The fact they aren't considering Sallah or Marion never left me with much hope.

I kinda thought for sure they'd do Short Round. What the hell are they saving that Hobbit body for? I guess they don't care about trying to recoup the development costs on that thing.

Seriously, by now I thought we'd have all four Hobbits, a Bilbo, Jawas, Ewoks (using some fur suit like they used the rubbery suit on the Creature 12"), a few Child Zombies for The Dead (I want my Zombie Girl Scout dammnit!) and at least Short Round. What the hell was the point of introducing those bodies just to have them whisked away with the LOTR line...

How long did the Kurgans have to wait until Sideshow made public the loss of the license? :dunno

:lol The Highlander line was just a public admittance to canning it, they've gone to the steps of wiping it from existance according to their sites. That's a special kind of cancel.

JOE will be next on the chopping block. Just a matter of time. That will end before tons of characters people actually want will be made. This is becoming the standard M.O. in Sideshow 12" lines.

Joes I think still have some legs but I guarantee that the line cancels leaving someone out. The fact there aren't any women in the line with there aren't that many women to be done bothers me. We should have had a Baroness a while back....no news about a new female Pro has me thinking its not happening for a bit.

And I still contend there's at least a 50/50 chance that the SW 12" line will end before we see the likes of Chewie, the droids, and Yoda. Sideshow's never concerned with fulfilling lines before they're dead... err, "on hold". SW is really no exception, either. A bunch of boring Rebel Soldiers and Imperial Commanders but no R2, Chewie, Yoda or 3P0 four years into the line... and we're still not even close to seeing those apparently. Wake up and read the tea leaves.

I get the vibe that Artoo and Threepio will be done as Hot Toys collaborations but that we will probably never get Chewie. Not sure about Yoda since they might just go the VCD route and make it nearly non-poseable at least for the OT version.

At least they did Vader and the Stormtroopers. :dunno

Well they mentioned doing a few more Vaders and you know Stormie variants are still on their way so that's all we might get for a while :lol

They also promised a 1:1 bust when the license was launched, which has likely been s**tcanned, so take it with a grain of salt.

To me that is the biggest kick in the crotch that the 1:1 bust hasn't been announced/previewed yet. I remember when that was announced it was on the must buy, now I doubt we'll see it.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

Pretty much. I think we were all stoked about the bust. But hey, it's not like SS is the only company who's fumbled the Indy license. :lol

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

i could never get a real good idea of how deep I wanted to go with this line, but it was definately deeper than it turned out to be. had we got Marion, Short Round and Mola Ram I think I would have started wanting more...even Willy!

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

From the 12/01 Q&A

At this time, neither Marion nor Sallah are currently in development, but they are high on the list of candidates.

Granted, KOTCS Indy will be the last figure, but they have admitted that Marion and Sallah were being considered.

You mean just like Hasblo teased us with prototypes of figures that will never get made.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

Not really. You completely forgot about the Joe line. That's some of the finest work and except for the body, comparable to what HT would give us at a thankfully lower price.

Have you seen Hot Toys' IRON MAN Tony Stark Mech Test figure (with environment)? It's on pre-order from retailers for $133-$144.

Not only do I doubt Sideshow could make a 1:6 figure with as much detail as some of these HT Iron Man figures... but if they made this set it would cost at least as much (probably more, because the base and environment would have to be made of polystone )

That's the problem that I see too. Polystone should be for statues only.
I mean why on earth make a Fridge out of polystone when plastic would have been more realistic and cheaper too

The fact is Hot Toys might be criticized for making multiple Iron Mans and a Tony Stark, but I feel Sideshow should have done the same thing with Indy. The guy in charge of making the decisions of what order the figures came out should have listen to the fans.
Tell me that this would not have been a winning formula, Adventure Indy then followed by Map room Indy, Rope bridge Indy, Tux Indy, Last Crusade Indy with a different sculpt, Ex could be the bike (plastic) and then KOTCS Indy, Maybe chuck a Hatless german Indy in there too. Follow that up with Mola Ram and Henry and it would be still going strong for years

Further back in the Q&A (SDCC? or was it earlier than that?) they stated that they wouldn't be considered because both were, and I quote, "long shots."

I agree about the polystone but as for the price, to be fair, we'll have to see what Sideshow offers him for. I'm betting he'll be closer to the $150 mark if not above it.

The line would've failed just as fast. Too many Indys. Look at Hasbro's 1:6 line. Too many Indys. I think a more proper formula would've been doing four different characters from each film + an Indy variant (SDCC Ex) for a total of 5. Then, if the line is still successful, return to each film and create extra characters.

Example:

Raiders:
Adventure Indy (non-hatted head nixed)
Belloq (web poll for which version)
Sallah
(Web poll for Toht or Marion)
Indy in German disguise as SDCC Ex w/non-hatted head or poll loser.

Temple:
Rope Bridge Indy
Mola Ram
Shorty
(web poll for Willie or "other" villain)
Club Obi Indy for SDCC Ex or poll loser.

Crusade:
Adventure Gear Indy gray temples w/tie & MP40 (great opportunity for fans who missed the first or just jumping aboard to nab him)
Vogel
Senior
(Marcus or Elsa web poll)
Professor Indy for SDCC Ex or poll loser.

Crystal:
Geezer Indy in Adventure Gear
Dovcheko
Mutt
(Mac/Spalko web poll)
Whoever loses above is SDCC Ex

With modest edition sizes, and close attention to pricing and exclusives, I think it would've worked and given us a more thorough line. Additionally, offering the exclusives separately and on a lower scale as environments, ala Star Wars, would've also been a better route. I also would've done the movies in order to create anticipation for each movie by filling out the cast of the current. Hell, maybe there would've been hype for KOTCS then? Then after KOTCS, cancel if sales blow or consider a revisit of each film for Indy variants and 2nd tier characters if the line turns out to be a success.

Wow I just noticed that every 12 inch Indy figure (regular and exclusive) is still in stock except for regular Toht. Yeah its done.

Sad thing is, I look at each figure and know exactly why they didn't sell out. The only reason Toht's regular is gone is because most who were getting the Ark jumped ship causing a landslide for the regular after the Ark was shown. The fact that Henry's still Wait Listed shows there's a market there when Sideshow gets it right. :(

I wonder which area will mourn the loudest....here or Whedonville.

You won't hear any mourning from me in the Whedon section because the 1/6 Buffy line was meh..although I never collected it.

It blows the 1/6th line is probably dead but I am not a huge 1/6th collector anyways.

Yea yea call me a sucker but 1/4 ftw.

Of all things German Indy is on waitlist and KOTCS Indy is on Waitlist also, but is that likely to go back to in stock when it gets released?

Things don't look good on the Diorama front either

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

They simply punted the license away. They probably got scared off from the lackluster sales of Hasbro & Gentle Giant stuff and decided the extra time & effort wasn't worth it. Been saying this since before the first Indy 12" figure was finally shipped.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The lines didn't perform well... because Sideshow's decision-making & lack of QC never gave them the chance.

But, yeah, it's our fault for not playing along.

That Q&A announcement surprised me as well. :lol But hey, it's our fault anyway, right?

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

I really wanted that 1:1 bust. :monkey2

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

I'm thinking the TOD Indy PF, Mola Ram PF, and 1:4 Ark will be last INDY items we see from Sideshow.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

I doubt we'll see that ark, things aren't selling in this line, the ark would likely be well over $500, as they claim they will gold plate it. I just don't see it selling, especially not if its anywhere near as inaccurate as the 1/6 disaster ark.

Re: Indy 12'' line on ''pause.''

Normally, I'd think so as well... but I'm pretty sure they've spent a considerable amount of time & $$$ on the R&D for these already.

Then they'll have a great item for the next benefit auction. I don't see that as any different than the Jason PF they auctioned off. I think they'll cut the projects regardless as it seems they just want to wash their hands with Indy and find something else to get everyone's hopes up about before shattering them to smithereens. :p
