I've already mourned for the death of the Indy 12" line. So if it ends up that all this was just talk, then I'm already over it.

:lecture That's how I feel. I'm just going to sit back and see if Sideshow delivers. But if they pull a "make a city of Tanis out of popsicle sticks to show your true love for Indy", then I'm out.

I eventually sold off all of my 1:6 sideshow stuff, as there are only so many times one can hear that a line is on hold. I figured this was typical of the 12" figures, not Sideshow as a whole, but now that they are stating that the full Fellowship might not be coming for the Lord of the Rings Premium Format line, I don't trust them for anything anymore.

This news sucks for Indiana Jones fans, but hold is officially dead for Sideshow. This leaves imports, Gi Joe and Star Wars...

Not sure why you have to sell off your 1/6th stuff if you thought the line was dead? Not all were hits but they did have some great Indy stuff. I guess that thought process doesn't make sense to me.

I guess I sold my stuff as I was tired of having a collection that had huge gaping holes in it, and once I started with the lines that were more near and dear to me, I didn't see much reason in holding on to any of them. It may have been a knee jerk reaction, but if some of my collections lack some of the main characters, why keep a partial collection? I picked up lines to get some of the major faces, and Sideshow continues to drop lines well before they make many of the major characters from a license.

I like having certain characters and not others. I don't need complete collections to like what I have.

If there was ever a line that could be argued "complete" with just one figure, it's Indy. Everything after him is gravy. Pretty rare in that regard.

That said, it's still be an exercise in frustration with things like the paint apps on ROTLA Indy, the choice of German Indy, etc.

No one would like a lot more characters/figures more than I would, but if they end up just producing 3 more figures (TOD Indy, Mola Ram, and Short Round) and they're all quality I'm fine with the line as-is, personally.

This might be part of why it is less upsetting for you than it is for others when Sideshow drops a line. I think that the type of collecting that people pursue plays a large role in their reaction to this sort of news.

As much as I would prefer a figure of Marion, a TOD Indy and Short Round really does need a Marion. (especially with the mine cart coming.) They were more of a team throughout that film.

RotLA Indy figure really could stand alone, being that Indy was mostly working alone.

Not sure if that makes sense.

That's true. If you can drop having the completist approach the. I do think you will enjoy things more.

Correction.

I am trying that approach with my LOTR collecting these days, but any line without the nine members of the fellowship would feel incomplete for me. Luckily, the Premium Format figures lend themselves better to individual displays or smaller groupings.

Indy does feel like it also lends itself to the single figure display, even in the 1:6 scale. Given the variety of characters available in so many of the licenses they develop though, there is always a fan favorite that isn't going to see the light of day, I guess.

I would just feel better if Sideshow were more honest in stating that certain lines aren't performing as well as they hope, and they are going to cancel them, instead of the "hold" status and pointing the finger at fans for not having enough interest. Sideshow is a niche market, even with their occassional presence with DVD gift cards/busts, and I would imagine they could improve their marketing. Look at the lack of interest in the Disney lines, and those collectors buy everything Disney!

Well, yeah with LOTR that does kind of become an incomplete line I agree.

Sideshow is honest thats what most people here fail to understand. They put things on hold in hope of finding a way to get things firing on all cylinders. Sometimes it just doesn't work so they don't bring it back. As far as the Disney stuff going and putting more stuff into the Disney stores would work a ton I would think.

Says someone who has pretty much every available incarnation of Iron Man (a character I loathe by the way) in every format available from Sideshow, Bowen, Hot Toys and Hasbro. And aren't you into MOTU too, another line that you know Mattel will exhaustively release on top of the extensive vintage and early 2000's lines? I mean they gave you that f___ing dentist at SDCC. Even the joke characters get made in some lines.

But Gimli, Marion? Nope. Mol-ar, yes. Pretty easy to continuously play the optimist when the problem does not affect your major interests.
