Had Sideshow chosen to sell the Fertility Idol environment separately, they would have sold a ton of them. But forcing you to buy that awful Belloq figure to get it was a poor decision. Even in the best possible lighting, that figure doesn't look anything like Belloq, and the clothes look like something Hasbro would have done on a good day.

I got Indy and Toht, and honestly, the only other figures I would buy (if done well) are Mola Ram and Marion Ravenwood (Raiders version).

This line just didn't have alot of possibilities. (IMO)

I think the line had a lot of possibilities...at $60 like most of their lines at the time. But right off the bat they announced that all the figures would be what $80 minimum or something like that...that eliminates a lot of "wants" right there. But anyway, at the right prices this line could have had 4-6 versions of Indy (all the films plus map room plus german disquise, 2 Marions, 2 Salahs, Brody, Toht, Dietrich, cairo swordsmen, buff german, mola ram, short round, willie, henry, elsa, belloq, plus a few other side characters.

The cheapest one (Belloq) was $80, but all the rest were $90 and up. Would you really have bought all those that you mentioned? By that I mean, I see some people asking (HT) for an Alfred figure from Batman, but what would you do with him? I guess he could serve Marcus Brody Tea or something.

As for Indy, don't forget White Tuxedo Indy, and I guess then you need a Lao Che and his henchmen, complete with Mir Hachi.

I love the Indiana Jones series, but I think I am like many collectors in that I just dont find alot of interest outside a few major characters.

I have Indy, Toht and would like a Mola Ram and Marion, outside of that, maybe I would spring for a Map room Indy, but I am on the fence with that one.

I wish you luck in Sideshow continuing the line, but I think it's future is a bit cloudy right now.

Don't let him fool ya. The answer is no, unless he found them at $50 at Hastings. Prog's an awesome guy, but he just needs to understand the days of the $49 figure from Sideshow are over. Despite the issues ROTLA Indy had, with the accessories, he was well worth the $90 price tag. And I agree on Marcus. Great character but a hard sale as a figure. Though I do think Sallah and Marion would've sold well enough if Sideshow had actually given them a chance, and had a little faith in Indy collectors. I think most of us would've been more content with a complete set of Raiders figures, vs. the ADD selections we actually got from all 4 films.

As for the line itself, every single release except Henry Senior was flawed in one form or another, beit the figure itself or the exclusive. Add to that the ridiculous pricing of Indy in German disguise who was about as barebones and inaccurate as you can get yet $90, the same as both of the other Indys who came loaded to the gills with accessories. I know there are a select few who think this line will continue, but when the 1:6 Mine Cart environment is released and sells poorly because of the lack of coinciding TOD figures, Sideshow will justify killing the line all together.

I'm with ProgMatinee, though. The pricing has gotten ridiculous and if it wasn't for GoHastings or the For Sale section here, I would be pretty much out of the game, 1/6th figure wise.

There are a select FEW figures that I would be willing to pay retail for (in any line) and because of the higher prices, the 2nd and 3rd tier figures are usually the first ones to get passed on.

It's all about priorities I guess. I passed on HT's T2 figures because while they're nicer, I didn't need rehashes of Sideshow's figures. Though I'll be picking up the T1s. Star Wars was cut to just the clones as well. Now I have enough freed up to pick up Joes and finish what customs I need to clear off the bench.

I agree totally. Prog's a decent guy totally and are many folks here. However, anyone expecting to pay $50 for a fig now is dreaming. Its just not gonna happen at all what so ever. Yes, some figures may be over the top a bit pricing wise with what they come with. However, if you want to try and pay 5-10 years ago prices you just have to wait. Otherwise accept it and buy what really strikes your fancy.

I'm pretty sure I've said it till I'm blue in the face but this is the market now. It does crack me up people still think the old prices are where things are gonna be.

SS didn't have the license rights to sell Indy Environments on their own, which is why they were included as a accessory with a figure. The fail was not having Belloq in his jungle clothes.

The fail was also not giving him a head that looked like Belloq.

:lecture:lecture:lecture Though, I think he would've sold better in his adventure gear. But it's things like that or putting a shine on the Ark which wound up getting spanked by Hasbro's free giveaway ark. Even Sideshow's 1:4 scale Ark is dull.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the matte finish on the Ark, I expected the Ark to at least look as brilliant as it did in the photo's on the site. I think it is a little deceptive on Sideshows part when they post pic's that are not accurate, even though they have the disclaimer that pic's shown are prototypes and may change. Alot of collectors aren't going to wait to order out of fear that the item will be sold out, they should at least update the pic's 2 weeks before people cards are charged to reflect the accurate appearance of the product, giving people the chance to cancel an item without having to go through the hassle of returning. Just my opinion.

They usually post production shots. However, they do have their douchy moments. They knew the 12" Flint's head paint apps looked like ____ so they didn't show him without the beret. There's the Ark fiasco. The 12" 501st Clone trooper whose paint apps paled in comparison to the box and prototype. They also did forced perspective shots to show a height difference between Luke and Han in Stormtrooper disguise. The sick thing is, the thought process is highly egotistical. They put out a sub par product. When in hand pics arrive and people start canceling they end up blaming collectors for lack of interest. Now while there's truth to that, the issue doesn't lie with a general lack of interest in the license, it lies in a lack of interest for the subpar collectibles Sideshow releases. But in most cases it seems that they believe that we should be buying whatever they produce like sheep because they've never released an inferior product. :lol

I had to read your post a second time, cause I think it's the first time we were in 100% agreement with eachother. ;)

I kind of feel this was the case with the 1:6 Lord of the Rings line as well. When I saw the Aragorn Prototype photo's, I got excited and ordered it right away. Once I got it in hand, the paint job looked nothing like the photo's and nothing like the character/actor. Each successive LOTR figure continued to disappoint as far as likeness went, with the possible exception of Samwise Gamgee, his head sculpt was actually quite good. I still wish they had continued the line, even though the sculpts were nowhere near as good as they should have been. They sold out every figure, yet they maintain that there just wasn't enough interest in the line to keep it going. Oh well.

With Star Wars, it's like holding the collector hostage, buy it up, regardless of quality, or we won't keep making em. I didn't buy the Han and Luke Troopers, but had I (and I did consider it), the intentionally deceptive photo would have infuriated me. I have posted a few times on Sideshow's site (preview posts) and I leave generally positive posts, but do mention obvious flaws where I see them, every time it has resulted in the deletion of my post, so they don't respond well to criticism.

This is why I am so anxious for HT to (eventually) take over or share this line. Hell, I'd be excited if they picked up the LOTR line as well, but then, I'd be poor.

looks like there IS time for love dr. jones!

short round, mola ram, tod indy all seem likely as does that rumored mine car.

"Okay, you may want to sit down for this… We have indeed started development work on a Short Round figure in 1:6 scale. We’ll be taking it slow, developing Indy, SR, and other TOD characters for release a little further down the road – but we have commitments…"

Sounds promising...

The thing is now that everyone and their brother has customized their TOD Indy I can't see Sideshow's making one anywhere near as good as the customs we've seen. It could be another German Indy gathering dust in the warehouse. Short Round and Mola are definite must-haves.

I'll happily replace my custom with whatever Indy they offer for pre-order. Look at the improvement of the sculpt from the ROTLA Indy to the older KOTCS Indy-- I can't wait to see the weathered and haggard interpretation of Ford's TOD Indy.
