Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

Of all the movies coming out this year, this one is/was my second most anticapated behind Watchmen.

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

I don't think there is a Tarantino movie that i did not like, True Romance is one of my favorites by him. I can't wait for this one now, since it has a WW2 theme and probally a hell of alot of laughs.

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

First quips coming in from Cannes on www.imdb.com today. I'm always down for a Tarantino flick regardless of criticism. I've enjoyed all of his films, yet I have to admit he gets a bit more self-indulgent in his later works.

Movie Reviews: Inglourious Basterds

Critics attending the Cannes Film Festival are mostly expressing disappointment over Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. An unsigned review on the Hollywood Reporter website says, "The film is by no means terrible -- its running time of two hours and 32 minutes races by -- but those things we think of as being Tarantino-esque, the long stretches of wickedly funny dialogue, the humor in the violence and outsized characters strutting across the screen, are largely missing." The British trade publication Screen Daily says that it "offers considerable challenges to the attention span of mainstream audiences." Sukhdev Sandhu concludes in the London Telegraph: "Cannes normally adores Tarantino (he won the Palme d'Or for Pulp Fiction), but this time? It's not so much inglorious as undistinguished." But several critics take a machine gun to it. Peter Bradshaw in Britain's Guardian newspaper calls it a "catastrophe" and goes on: "It isn't funny; it isn't exciting; it isn't a realistic war movie, yet neither is it an entertaining genre spoof or a clever counterfactual wartime yarn. It isn't emotionally involving or deliciously ironic or a brilliant tissue of trash-pop references. Nothing like that."

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

Bah! I love all QT movies and i'm really looking forward to seeing this one. I don't care what some critics say. They got a funky taste in movies sometimes anyway.

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

I don't put a lot of stock in reviews, but neither do I think everything that drips from Tarantino's pen is gold. He can be uneven and self indulgent, but boring? No storyteller can or does hit it outta the park equally well each time.

We'll see how it turns out. A Tarantinoesque Dirty Dozen is certainly intriguing.

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

Can't wait to see this. Tarantino's great and I love the WWII genre, so this should be a real treat!

Re: Inglourious Basterds trailer....

I don't know... I wasn't that impressed by the trailer, so if those are some of the best parts of the film I'm not sure

I usually LOVE QT. I also love True Romance to death! And of course Pulp Fiction. But Jackie Brown was not that great - by that I mean, not rising out of the pack. And I vastly preferred Planet Terror to Death Proof in the Grindhouse double feature - loved the music in Death Proof though (and the glimpses of Austin - I lived there for 8 years and it's a great little town).

So of course I will see this - just not too impressed by the trailer :duff
