+1 i never liked the comic ironman, looks like muscle man wearing red tights not armor. The movie full armor version is where it's at :rock The only reason i got the ss classic ex was because of the awesome sculpt of him holding the american flag, very unique.

It's unbelievable if you guys think about it, he was a MINOR hero not a lot of people cared about him. Then the first movie came out along with downey's good portray and he suddenly became one of the top heroes :horror

And what's even more unbelievable is ALL this time and popularity, sideshow has only made ONE movie ironman statue, and even that was a legacy creation not really one of their standard release.. SS continue to churn out tons of other crap, but still refuse to make a standard movie ironman PF or anything. :cuckoo:

Are you crazy man!! :cuckoo:

What are you talking about!!

IM has always been big! He is the one of the first Avengres! The Big 3 are IM, THOR, CAP!!!
No sir, not even Hulk can be included till later on!

The Golden Avenger was like the hero of heros in shiny armor! :lecture

PS, you know I get what you are saying :)

I understand where gagaliya's coming from, and I kinda agree with him.

For us comic book geeks, Iron Man's always been a powerhouse of a character indeed, but not so to the general public. Even another one of the so-called 'Big 3' —Thor— wasn't remotely big among them 'straights' until the movie hit.

We shouldn't lose sight of what the general awareness really is. To the average Joe, only Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spidey, Hulk and maybe Wolverine were really recognizable characters until just recently.

Now even my mom knows who Iron Man is. :)

Humm... strange, I was born in a foreign land and I still heard of Superman, Avengers, IM!
I use to look through the pages and could not even read the words but I knew of the golden avenger.

No disrespect to your mom, but ladies dont count in the grand picture of things when comics started years ago. Until recently, being a geek was looked down upon.
We do have to thank the movies for helping the new generation, but from the older comic collectors point of view IM was one of the 3 pillars of the Avengers.

Its all good, the movies help the comics, the comics helps the movie product sales. The average Joe is now much more mainstream than before

Where you were born is not the point. Geeks are geeks everywhere. :)

Again, you were leafing through comics. The general public never does.

I think you're missing the point, averone. It's precisely moms everywhere we're talking about. Just because that's the opposite to a comic reader. :wink1:

Indeed.

Argh. You're doing it again, see? 'Comic collectors'. Not the general public.

Agreed. Which is what gagaliya was all about in the first place. :wink1:

I also have to disagree. Always considered IM one of the big guns of Marvel. I'm with Averone on this one.

I think you guys are missing the point that shoo and gagaliya are trying to make. They are saying that TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, ironman was not that big of a character til the movies hit. I completely agree with this. Before the movies, I think most people would only know batman, superman, spiderman, and maybe hulk. thor and ironman would not be up there. To COMIC BOOK COLLECTORS, of course iron man is a heavy hitter. No one is disputing that.

Because you're a Marvel fan, as I am. But if you'd have asked anyone on the street a few years ago, do you honestly believe most people would have known him right away? I really don't think so.

10char.

I now forgot what the argument was about!
LOL!

Ok....
Not saying IM biased towards one or the other!

I make it easy, I just buy them all :exactly:

I grew up on DC actually but as a child of the 70's I remember getting the Mego figures as a kid of which Iron Man was one of them so to me it seemed he has always been a main guy. I can't speak for others but that was my impression as I grew up. It's not a big deal to me one way or another. I look forward to seeing the full reveal on this.

It seems to most people familiar to the comics it's hard for them to separate what's popular to someone who knows comics and what's popular to everyone else. Iron Man was ALWAYS a big gun in the comics. But to the general public who doesn't read comics, if you didn't play a video game or watch the old cartoons, how would they know him? Thor included. There was never this much IM merchandise until the movie.
