Calm down guys, it's only the first inhand pictures. It's usually first picture woes so that's already an improvement :lol

Patiently waiting for the MKII now...

To defend my Cheadle comment ). I don't think it's perfect but not the abomination many think it is. Paint apps ruin it more then anything IMO.

Who needs to calm down???

Or are you saying we are all getting Happy over the first In Hand photos.... Much like we come down too hard on a piece when the first In hand are poorly done.

In hand pics of awful Cheadle portraits far outweigh the decent ones, the IP threads on many forums will confirm that.

:exactly:

Usually everyone freaks out and it turns out decent, not when it came to IP :(
The next few sets of pictures will probably look awful :lol

Hard to judge the colours from these, red looks really dark.

Congrats on the pickup! Compared to IP this looks like the Sistine Chapel :lol

Don't see too many paint bleeds on this one which is great, as that completely ruins an Iron man statue at this scale.

The RDJ portrait is okay on this one imo. It's actually one of the better actor portrait efforts Sideshow has done that I can remember and that's a good thing. I'm comparing that to the Cavill Man of Steel, Hemsworth Thor, Ruffalo Hulk, Reeve Superman & Cheadle Iron Patriot both of which are an abomination.

Wish Sideshow QC took the Iron patriot release seriously, as these would have made a nice pair had they both turned out in the ballpark of the prototypes first shown. No way I'd buy one without the other though.

Shhhhh ... you will jinx it.. lol

Again I think it comes down to the paint apps and the "scary eyes" Have not seen it in person so I can't say for sure but I always thought it looked like Cheadle. Even in the Bad pics I always thought it looked like the paint is what failed it and not the sculpt. We all know bad paint apps will ruin a good sculpt not to mention a camera flash.

Great example of Paint apps helping or hindering a sculpt. First photo is OK.. I can see the Ford likeness but When I got my replacement I had never been so happy to get a damaged product :)

Again I am not saying the Cheadle sculpt is perfect... Just not as bad as it's been made out. IMO anyways :)

Agreed, paint apps can make or break a sculpt. Wrt to Cheadle though, he's got 99 problems. :lol

It's also out of scale, being larger than the WM Maquette helmet as well as the Mk 6 Maquette and IS Mk 42 Maquette.

I look at those pics and just don't think it looks bad (not counting scale) but the paint apps are awful and the eyes..... Those soulless eyes... :lol

The sculpt is there on Cheadle's face, but the paint is shoddy as hell. He looks like Mac after he saw the Predator for the first time.

Glad to see some good pics of this guy. I'm still holding out for the mk 3 or 7... But after A2, I hope they do a mk 45.

I just recently got into statues, from buying (and continue to) Hot Toys.

And in my opinion, some of these movie statue head sculpts of real actors just can't seem to compare.

Maybe it's a size/proportion thing, but the sculpts and paint apps on the Hot Toys figure/s are top notch imo.

Currently have the Superman, Batman, Captain America (Hydra charge), and they're all great, impressive and imposing statues, which make the 1/6 figures look like what they are sometimes. But given that they're comic versions there isn't a real person to compare it against.

Really want a 1/4 Iron Man, but may just 'settle' for the 1/4 Mark 43 Hot Toys, but damn is it expensive. Maybe I can transplant one on top of the statue :slap

Hot Toys just knows how to do headsculpts and likenesses. You'll get a clam here and there but they easily rule the likeness department. Enterbay also has some incredible likenesses such as the BD Terminator, 1/4 Batman, and 1/4 mr bean.

And the good thing is that from prototype to production piece, the likeness rarely gets worse on the Hot Toys (relative to the statues anyway).

But what I wouldn't pay for this head sculpt on this statue.
