Well, every company is about the money so I can't blame them for that, but frankly if they had super top notch and near PERFECTION paint people, but that made the statues $1000 each then I'd be done collecting. I enjoy the hobby, but not enough to sink 30k into it.

lol! So true, dude. Another part of the pain is sitting behind my laptop and seeing collectors settle for this stuff by saying, "This'll be displayed from about six feet from me anyway, so the bad paint app doesn't matter." It's like they're acknowledging that the paint apps are garbage, but don't even care. Are you kidding me? I love looking at my pieces up close. It's one of the best ways to enjoy them.

The paint apps are so good on all of my pieces (yes, even my older SS pieces) that I can't help but get right up on the statue just so I can touch it and drool over the paint apps. Especially pieces with teeth showing. I love poking my finger tips on stuff like this because the paint makes it look so damn good and real...

Couldn't agree more. :goodpost: :exactly:

Oh I don't know... I got made fun of for pointing out paint flaws on an XM piece and was told that I was judging it by close up and would not be viewing it that close.

NOW don't get me wrong... XM paint apps for the most part are great (though I think they can be a bit bland thus making the pieces look like PVC) but I have seen some QC issues.... Having said that... It's nothing compared to IP or Reeve Superman and some others and for the most part XM is 99% on as opposed to SSC 85%

Sometimes with SS its a roll of the dice and that is frustrating. The paint apps on their Superman Comic PF are OUTSTANDING as well as their Gladiator Hulk and King Hulk but others have missed the mark lately. I was lucky to have to Interest in IP... So I have yet to deal with any QC issues with SSC. Though as some may point out, I did hate the goofy Eye Brow on Hulk Maquette. But I fixed that up :)

XM Iron Man III paint apps are really amazing though. They look great. The boring base and average pose really don't do much for me. I love the SSC pose but it fails in meeting the XM paint apps.... At the end of the day I would go with the SSC piece just because of the killer pose.

In all honesty Jaws, if Marvel Iron Man was the focus of your collection you'd feel completely different about Sideshow over the last 5 years guaranteed. It's easy to point to some random COTD statue or the comic Superman they may have nailed, but what good is it if you don't collect any of it? None really. Sideshow has a lot to make up for with it's Iron Man fan base, so fingers crossed that someone over there internally has had enough and is taking the license seriously.

I'm glad the first shots of this Mk 42 look okay - that in itself is a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully, the rest will look okay as well as the collectors deserve it.

Ya know I never looked at it that way. Yours and others frustration makes more sense now. I never looked at it from the "IM" collector perspective. Thought I liked the IM2 Maquette (Was chin paint the only issue?) but I know that had some issues also... Being a non Die Hard for IM I look at most of these and think they look good (not counting IP) But when and if (more When) I get an IM piece and if it comes out bad I wont be as frustrated as the rest of you because I will not have gone through this for the 3rd or 4th time. Having said that, no way would I accept IP paint apps. But this new one and even the IM2 maquette (Chin paint is not too noticeable IMO)look great to me. But if they kept on screwing Hulk up in all these little to major ways I am sure I would be singing a different tune.

I think people should buy what they really like, at that point prices get much more manageable. I don't understand people that have a set number of pieces in mind, like "this year I'll buy 10x 500$ pieces". Since Sideshow 1:4 pieces are now consistently over 500$, it's basically 2 SS vs 1 XM.
I'd rather pick ONE awesome Iron Man for 1000$ than pair two mediocre IMs each one costing 500$. It helps that the XM pieces I'm scoring mostly come at around 800$ and not 1000, which is the same amount I'd spend on a big Sideshow Exclusive like Darkseid once I factor in shipping and customs.

I've seen almost all XM pieces in person, the only exception so far being MK42. I can tell you've never seen one in person, the difference in paint app and shadings is very noticeable. Even if I compare XM pieces to something by the "old Sideshow", the paint app by XM is more crisp and deep, with more attention to skin tones and shading.
I've seen a friend's XM Black Widow two days ago and the portraits literally smoke the fabled Ms Marvel PF portraits (which I owned), people who are jealous of their SS pieces and like to be cuddled in their "grail-osity" bubble will never admit it and go on acting like true butt hurts.
This is not to say XM is perfect, Sideshow has spaced much more in different styles and genres so it's pretty natural they had their ups and downs, I think most people are just bitter for the randomness of Sideshow QC in the last couple of years. It doesn't help to say "that one, this one and that other one came out good!", because I don't collect everything by Sideshow. I collect what i'm interested into, like anyone else, and I shouldn't play roulette with my money.
