My pre order is still live...despite the noticeable difference in quality between the proto and production pics I am still willing to give this a go. Worse case scenario, if I don't like it i'll just get a refund. Based on how poorly the sales were for the Iron Patriot, I'm pretty certain that this will be the final instalment from Sideshow's Iron Man lifesize busts...or could we indeed see it milked one last time for the Avengers 2 MK43 armour!!!! :thud :thud :lol

It makes me sad because i don't think its the 1/1 bust popularity problem it's the fact that they **** up so much on them... If it looked closer to the prototype I would've gotten it in a heart beat...

Yeah, same here. The proto looks like straight out of the movie.

totally agree guys. I've just learnt in time as a collector to always try and see a piece inhand before writing it off completely. I've been in this hobby long enough now to realise that I've written off so many pieces from pics alone, only to then see it inhand months or even years after and totally have my mind changed. So despite Sideshows continuous level of inconsistencies regarding their Iron Man pieces, I still like to give each piece the benefit of the doubt.

No piece disappointed me more so than their recent Iron Patriot Lifesize bust :( Priced at $999.99 I just couldn't believe the lack of care, quality or skill that had gone into it. Poor QC and sloppy/flat paint application resulted in me getting a refund for it. It just baffled me as to why Sideshow would charge an $200 more than what they charged for their MKVII LSB :dunno and we all know what issues that bust had also...

Whilst I still think the price for the MK42 LSB is also way overpriced, you at least get the shoulders added to the bust (which hasn't been seen before on any of the other previous Iron Man busts) so I'm excited to at least see that new feature. I'm happy to be the guinea pig for any of those collectors sitting on the fence and i'll certainly be as honest as I can be :)

Youre the hero side show needs but not the one it deserves... I will wait patiently for your thoughts on the Mk XLII bust!! i really like that bust from promo exp having shoulder pads added in! i think thats the only good thing they did...

I am going to offer Sideshow some "constructive criticism": STOP MAKING IRON MAN PRODUCTS!!! After the Mark VII LSF, the Mark VII life-size bust and now this Mark 42 bust it's clear that they don't even care about delivering a halfway decent product to their customers anymore. They show off a prototype that is miles above what they can actually achieve in a finished product and it's a huge slap in the face to their customers. Why would anyone in their right mind pay $1000 for something that is not even close to what it should actually look like? I was excited about all 3 of the aforementioned products when the prototypes were initially shown off because they all looked amazing, but I've officially given up on SS at this point because it's clear that what you see when you place your order is never what you're actually going to get. :(

What happened with the mark 7s?! yeah im quite disappointing with most of the iron man stuff they made...i think it's just legacy that are cheap or something n go for some cheap chinese company... you dont really see that with hot toys.. they have great paint apps and pretty consistent with their releases...

dang side shows gota step up their game...onces hot toys starts with the 1/1 busts side shows will have NO place in iron-man movie collectibles.. Both their names come on the line when the final products hit the market.. and these final products doo look cheap compared to the prototype

I think the problem they have is the material they cast with. There are very few surfaces that make a difference when painted. But what they use is a product a lot of larger castings are made from and it almost always has a bad finish. Because of the size they can't use or don't use a standard resin mix. It would triple the weight. That's what the proto is made from. But the production piece is a kind of rubber (not tire rubber but a hard shore rubber) and it never achieves a flat finish and it sucks up paint like no ones business. And it always dulls the finish.

I've cast some stuff with it and it always ends up looking like this. The issue with these is size. The materials you can use are limited.

I'm not saying it's ok or I would buy it. As I have not. Would not. But I also wouldn't keep PO these and get upset when the production item looks different. They almost always will.

As for the price....yes a grand is s ton of money. But if you commission one that's full painted your paying a lot more, thru a person who has no license fees or other things sideshow has to pay for. So, relative to what this item costs in its market, not out of line really.

They just need to find a different casting medium. Would solve a lot of the issues.

Where did you get that info? Is speculation or is a possibility?

Got my processing notice and it should ship next friday (April 24th).

I've got my NRD plus another $100 in rewards locked on this. Maybe I'll regret it, maybe I won't but I'll know soon.

I think he's speculating based on the 1:1 promo busts they did for an AOU display/event recently. I haven't read anything confirming them breaking into 1:1 yet, but they are moving into 1:4.

I received mine on Tuesday this week after ordering last week with the 20% off code on SSC sent on tax day. I did a quick examination of it and it looked fine to me.
I did not see any major paint flaws and the red color was consistent across the head, base and shoulder pack.

Be aware this piece is very heavy and the box is large enough and heavy enough that you need two people to carry it. Mine is still sitting in my office back in the box and will going home on Friday when a co-worker and I have to get it up into my walk up apartment in Manhattan.

I'll try and post a few pictures if I have time this weekend. Assuming no major paint defects with yours, i think you will really enjoy it once you have it in hand.
