Maybe SS has a bunch of exciting new stuffs to be announced shortly? Afterall, we have Toy Fair coming up soon and of course, there is the evergreen SDCC.

Oh, how I wish I have $5000 to spend on collectibles! :) There are so many items that I want at the moment but I can only go for a few of them due to budget constraints. If only I can win the lottery!

As for whether SS has become blahh lately, my humble opinion is "no". They are still the SS we know. And they will still be having a bunch of items for us to get excited about.

Well, I know I don't plan out how much I want to spend on collectible, I just see things I like and want and budget into buying them. For big stuff, I almost always use Flexpay. I'm sure if you calculate out how much you've spent on collectible, it'll ends up being a lot more than you ever planned on spending. :D If I thought about how much I would be spending on statues and figures before hand, I would probably go into shock. :emperor

I agree with Toysales and Choopie. That's what I figured too. With Toyfair coming up, they're probably holding on some announcements til then. I wouldn't say SSC is necesarily "blah", but I have noticed that they've been a little light on the newsletters lately. I'll start to worry if nothing major in unveiled during Toyfair.

True, I'm going to keep my eyes open during ToyFair and see what the outcome is.

Yeah, SSC still releases more stuff than I can afford, but rising prices together with the uncertainty of the economy, I'm also finding it easier to pass on and cancel figures that 2 years ago and at $60 I would have bought no questions asked.

You're right, a couple years ago Sideshow was selling 1/6 figures for $40-60, which made committing to a purchase so much easier. Now the price point is hitting $100+, so the desire to buy a product is less appealing, especially since quality hasn't really gone up much.

Totally agree with you on the total costs of our collectibles and figures. That is why I never dare to keep track of how much I have already spent! And whenever my wife asked me how much each figure cost, I normally tell her its around $20 bucks. If she find out how much I am paying for these figures, she will probably faint. After she has recovered, she will go for my neck!!

Although its a good idea to know what is in your collection for insurance reasons. I keep a spreadsheet... no denying my foolishness that way.

I used to keep a spreadsheet but gave up after a while. The total sum at the end of the page was creating a mental block for me to continue my buying. :D

And since there are so many things I want, I simply need to keep buying, if budget permits. I just sold off my stamps collection and I have since decided that the entire bulk of the money I collected from my stamps sale will go towards financing my figures collection.

For this reason, I am eagerly awaiting new SS annoucements for the upcoming Toy Fair!

I'm really excited for the T-800 PF coming out, I think that looks pretty awesome. The Galactus LSB announcement was good too, that might get me into the LSB line. I'm sure there's going to be plenty of solid announcements from them soon enough.

I agree to a certain extent with the "blah" remark.

I think the state of the economy has made a lot of people, myself included, re-evaluate their lives and what they spend on. The first thing that your brain will classify as "un-necessary" and a potential waste of money is things like collectibles etc, which is why people are no longer easily drawn into the hype with every piece announced...
And SS hasn't made things easier with their recent prices increases and bad likenesses, so yea.... I do agree with you that they are getting a bit blah... but in fact its not sideshow, but the actual hobby that feels "blah" at times like these.

I just wanted to see if anyone else shared my views that SS has become pretty blah regarding new releases lately. I mean I know their pretty slow, which is a good thing in some cases, but when they do release something its ether very blah (Godfather bust, Hellboy bust)...or as of recently...very poor quality. No new licenses, the last PF (Abomination)....blah again (given I orderd one)....but still...of alllll the PF to make... Abomination??... whats the deal SS???

Chris

I dont understand why some people collect. SS puts out more stuff then anyone. But why would you preorder and spend $500.00 on a "Blah" Abomination PF figure. That makes no sense.

:rotfl:rotflThat's great! The art of stealth collecting I take it.

Good one. :lol

That complaining and cancellation talk happens all the time... doesn't seem anymore than other times.

...I don't know man, there is a lot more talk about it than usual I think. Snake Eyes, the Indy pedastal, lots of SW threads. Its always happened, but now its more than ever.

A lot of the talk is more "me too syndrome" than anything.

True that.....

Hype can be ignored when money is tight...

When money is good, hype tempts like i'm Eve and the SS Snake is selling me a very delicious Polystone Apple.

Still, as tight as money is about now, and probably will get worse before it gets better, if SS released an item on my MUST PURCHASE list, that sucker will be purchased like steriods at a baseball training camp!

I'm waiting for that delicious apple SS!

I think the increase is due more to people just getting into the hobby (and becoming members of the forum) than to any great migration away from SS.
