Is it just me or is SS really getting...blahh

You guys have good points. Its also possible that SSC is offering SO MANY good things that people preorder it all and then cancel their least favorites to fit their budget.

But from my own personal account, the last 3 SW figures I've actually kept all the way to shipping has been Han, Luke and Clonobi. There's been what, 4 or so figures released around or since then? Aayla, Ki Adi, Captain Antilles, Rebel Fleet trooper? I believe those are actually the only 4 SW figures I don't own and they're all the newest ones...and I haven't lost my job or anything. Maybe I'm projecting my own experience as one the group is having...lol.

It is true that it´s getting harder for me to find releases that I want to buy. It may be because I already have a great collection of classic 12" monsters and SS took the high-end direction (busts and PF). For instance, I just got the 2009 calendar and I don´t like any of the figures they chosed for it.

Great point. I thought the same thing, though I do like Snake Eyes and a couple of the PFs. Previous calendars had all stuff that I liked.

I don't know if Sideshow is getting blah or not. I think it depends on your perspective. I'd be more excited if they were making some of the properties I'm more into than the ones they actually are making. They used to do more things I dug back in the day, not so much now. Their enthusiasms and aesthetics and my own were in accord back then, but we've both changed our focus in the last few years. And you know what?

I'm completely fine with that. My tastes and desires are probably minority ones, I bought only a very few things even among all the stuff I admired, and I'm also not a person who's going to spend a pile of cash on a premium format figure or a statue or something like that. So I can't project my likes onto a company's financial plans or onto an industry as a whole. Sideshow has to go where it figures the money is.

But looking at the thread for the Dave Bowman 2001 figure, I noticed it was surrounded by a lot of the type of 1/6th stuff Sideshow used to make a few years back, only now it's being made by smaller (?) companies. Weird 50s-60s B-movie monster figures and Boris Karloff and Night of the Living Dead. Stuff like that. I'm not trying to make a point, just an observation.

It's not just you. I've purchased thousands of dollars worth of collectibles from them, but currently they only thing I have on order is the Hot Toys Predator. There isn't much in the current line-up that sparks my interest.

You and I both. I find that over the last few months I've only placed a couple of orders. I have over 10 preorders from last Summer, but I haven't ordered anything from Sideshow during the Winter yet.

Come to think of it, I believe I don't have a single Sideshow fig on pre-order left. I have some HT, a few Medicom and Blacula! Nothing from Sideshow...
No wait, I have Belloq and Thot!
But still, I haven't seen a single thing from them that has made me want to buy lately...
Sad... :(

I know, the only things I usually purchase are Hot Toys figures and only the exclusive are what I purchase directly from Sideshow. It is very sad, because Sideshow inspired me to purchase some of the things that I knew I just couldn't get anywhere else. I did order the Blackbeard PF Ex, because that brought back the old days of Sideshow.

I don't think Sideshow is getting blah...I think I am getting blah. They have released some real cool items lately but for some reason I just don't seem as interested right now. Maybe I just have other things to worry about right now and its taking my mind off of my collection.

In fact, for me, the problem with sideshow is not bad product. It's just that they don't target the same costumers anymore. They've abandonned (well almost) 1/6 and now concentrate on props and PF... things for which I don't have the slightest interest!
For me PF are just boring statues. You can't pose them so everybody's got the same thing with the same pose... boring as hell. Sure, some may look good (though the latest ones weren't that great) but the prices are high! I'm not ready to pay for a statue.
Besides, props and PF take much more room. So, all in all, I don't recognize what I used to like in Sideshow anymore... :(

I have Vader on order from SSC, and AOTC Obi Wan from Alterego. And I plan on getting the Utapau down the road.

The list I WOULD have ordered if I had the cash:
ANH Han
ANH Leia
ANH Luke
Stormtroopers
FU Clone Trooper
RFT
Piett
Antilles
Harbinger
Mall Santa
Belloq
Toht

So, no, I don't think 'blah'. I just wish they were less expensive. My only gripe is the pricing doesn't reflect the reuse of molds and R&D for the clones and stormtroopers.
I am saddened that the Pre SW license sales figures were acceptable and the post SW license sales for other licenses are not enough. I don't expect custom quality paint from a factory but if you want me to pay more, you better show me what I'm paying for. The same old thing for $20-$30 more is a bunch of crap. RFT and ESB Han are functionally the same type of figure with similar accessories but RFT is $20 more. As prices approach HT, the quality should as well.

Just came across this thread now.

The answer to your question is "it's just you".
