Is Sideshow gearing itself AWAY from 1/6 Figures?

Can you imagine what would happen if a Star Wars figure came out looking like that...there would be rioting in the streets.

It didn't take to the end of the line for it to have needed diversity. POTA was a blessing to have received, but totally mishandled by $$C. That mishandling, lack of advertising, etc led to a lack of sales. Like you buying all the SW I bought all [and multibles thereof] of the POTA line.
And yes, sorry if it offends you, but being as $ide$how is now ALL about the dollar, it seemed only fitting to incorporate it into their name. I don't think I lose the point of my argument with it, the "$" are the point of my argument.

Has POTA ever been a real hot seller? I mean honestly? I would venture to guess SS did just about everything it could.

Sideshow's a company in it to be a success but they're also still about the fans as well. Sorry if you think the other way but as I said you lose all credibility with me when you start doing the "$" signs.

First of all, I never said that anything Sideshow has put out sucks. I was simply stating that they are not on the same level quality wise as Hot Toys.

Well, IYO there not but I would venture to guess more than most people think they are. Your going around stating for a fact that SS stuff isn't where as it's your opinion.

However, I feel pretty secure in saying that there were quality issues with some of the figures in that line. That's not to say that there weren't some great figures. Human Spike for one. When Sideshow got it right, they really got it right, but when they got it wrong, they really got it wrong.

There where issues with the Buffy line. I noticed that and I don't disagree with you that there where problems

I'm glad that you feel like you are getting your money's worth with your Star Wars line, but my collecting habits don't lie in that direction.

I feel like I'm getting my monies worth from everything I buy from SS. LOTR, SW, etc whatever the line it is I buy from.

Anyway, I still stand by my comments. If you take them as a personal attack against your collecting preferences, well, I'm sorry, but please don't put words in my mouth.

I take them as how they are you telling me SS isn't as good as HT or whoever and that's a fact. You can insert the word suck, quality, etc. but the fact is that's your opinion not FACT. I don't have to put words into your mouth you're doing a good enough job. :)

Ahh Josh you are in rare form today! I haven't seen these multiple quote retorts in some time :rock

And does anyone else see Deb from Napoleon Dynamite in the production Willow?

A business all about making money?????? You are kidding????

Lets make another 200 chimp figures so they can take 3 years to sell out :lol

All sarcasm aside, I think even the $tar War$ money wagon would be slowed if they were on the 4th variation of Luke while other characters were still missing. Still, I contend that if $ide$how can make Salacious Crumb, or Maul's droids as EXTRAS and not included with Jabba or Maul, then $$C is only about the money.

Except advertise them. Or issue characters before variants. Or actually get to ALL the core characters.
And thats not just for POTA. Sure, they're my fave, but Buffy got ****ed, Highlander got ****ed, LOTR isn't yet, but they're bent over.

POTA, Highlander, and Buffy had very short shelf lives IMO. Where as LOTR and SW have much longer ones.

I think the best way to put the Sideshow and Hot Toys figure debate down is this:

Sideshow (thus far) has NOT put forth the effort, creativity, craftsmanship and desire to put out premium figures in which the designs (head molds, body types, outfit, accessories, etc.) are on par or superior to Hot Toys.

That being said, I am not saying that Sideshow's quality is bad...but visually when you sit...let's say Darth Maul next to the Colonial Marines and get into actually studying the details of the figures...where are you going to see the effort?

Bottom dollar is that Sideshow started out small...they got cheap, inexpensive licenses that helped them build a fanbase and get a foothold in their genre. They were smart enough to truck along with that all and put out some great stuff, but like every company they had the desire to grow and explore new fields...and not to mention...make money. Thus the big bucks were certainly with Star Wars...not to mention attaining licenses like Marvel,LotR and most recently, World of Warcraft. I don't think that Sideshow will ever really turn their back on the collectors for the almighty dollar, because this hobby is collector-oriented and that's their target...BUT they have manufactured some products that have made me really question whether they were "fast money-makers" (Bubo..anyone?).

And with Star Wars, one of the TRUE staying powers of that franchise is MERCHANDISING. I hate to say it like there's no Santa Claus but it has been one of the real reasons behind why Star Wars is still hot today.

IYO of course. I HONESTLY feel SS is the best. They have some bumps like everyone else but I am not nearly as impressed with the HT Firemen as I am say Darth Maul. You're more than welcome to feel differently but please don't try to boil it down that your opinion is FACT. :)

Yep,my opinion of course. :)

Just out of curiousity, do you own any Hot Toys and/or Medicom figures?

You don't know Hot Toys until you've owned at least one Predator or the Terminator Endo. Beats any and all 1:6 figures out there. Sideshow cannot compare to them.

I dont care to own any of those so to me as cool as they look they're not impressive enough for me to own. :)

Yeah, LOTR's shelf life is so long thats where $ide$how is keeping it. On the shelf. Churning out $tar War$ and maybe, when/if that starts to slow a LOTR figure.
And I think POTA, Buffy/Angel and Highlander have long life expectancies. But, you can't flood the market with a bunch of figures from one license all at once [as they did with POTA] or suffer from likeness issues [Brent, Willow, Faith.....] or never deliver the central characters for the longest time [Giles took forever, Cordy was never delivered under the Buffy license, the Angel license was totally ****ed, no Ramirez, no medeival Kurgan, no ape-o-nauts]
Hot Toys is blowing them away in terms of quality, assortment, accessories and gear. Thats not just an opinion its just about every objective collectors opinion. I see it on a lot of boards. And maybe $ide$how doesn't even care as they're getting a cut anyway. I could never see $$C delivering a figure with the quality of the Predator or Endo. Not to mention a Power Loader.
$ide$how was great. I have tons of their figures. {and not just from POTA :D } Let's face it, the bottom line is they have abandoned the basic non $tar War$ 1:6 collector. It was a business decision to make money. Thats understandable. I hope that all the folks who were those 1:6 collectors abandon them. Nothing personal, just a collector decision.
