Is Sideshow gearing itself AWAY from 1/6 Figures?

Sigh... I was thinking about pulling out a bunch of crap and taking pictures for comparison to back up my assertion that Sideshow is not at the same quality level as some of the other manufacturers, which I believe is a fact, not just my opinion, but then this whole discussion reminded me of a sig line I saw somewhere: "Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded." So, I'm done. :horse

A good point DBoz.
Those that feel that $ide$how has moved on and left the collector behind will never be able to see eye to eye with the blind faithful that will defend $ide$how no matter what they do. And vice versa.

Where's that Hot Toys forum? :monkey3

LOL! Thanks for the entertainment. A nerd brawl is alway appreciated. Wait for the Bill and Ted reference...............................................Wait for it..........................Wait for it...............................................................

I got one better, how about a petition to rename this forum "HOT TOYS FREAKS"? :monkey3 :chew :D

Nah, a Hot Toys forum would definitely need different moderation [no offense to this boards moderators]

Ironman1188 is just mad cause they cancelled the apes line. If they announced it back tomorrow he would change his tune so fast :lol

As long as either SS, HT, Medicom, Takara produce something I want, that is all I care.

It's sad to see yet another thread that could've stimulated some continuous quality dialogue spiral downward into a small group of members drawing lines in the sand and going at each other.

And honestly...is there really anyone here who DOESN'T realize that most posts are clearly that member's opinion WITHOUT them actually have to come out and say it????!!!!

Of course it's their OPINION!!! Unless they actually come out and say "this is a fact", then take it as an opinion. That would cut down on some of this back and forth nonsense. (see...that's an opinion...)

As to the topic at hand, I too feel that Sideshow is moving away from producing 1/6 scale figures while simultaneously increasing the price (this mostly refers to SW). Here are some of my observations:

Most announcements as of late have been for other formats: busts, PF, dioramas, LS busts, etc.

Sideshow has also given little to no indication of designing/releasing an updated base body that could compete with the Asian companies.

Sideshow has remained painfully vague on the armored figure issue while importing their foreign competition's armored figures.

The so-called "Legacy" James Bond figures have been virtual rehashes rather than definitive Bonds.

Well said and also in a very non combative way. I can agree with everything except we just got Yavin Luke as well as Leia. So there have been recent announcements. Other than that well spoken sir. I wish Sideshow would make more popular figures. I won't just buy anything. I did not purchase the Rebel Troopers. A first for me with this line. I just can't see spending the money on them. I will say they are very nice. Just not what I am looking for. Thats my own OPINION though.

Yeah, LOTR's shelf life is so long thats where $ide$how is keeping it. On the shelf. Churning out $tar War$ and maybe, when/if that starts to slow a LOTR figure.

LOTR is probably the most difficult line they've ever done. There's no other reason IMO. Lot's of R&D.

Ironman1188 said:
And I think POTA, Buffy/Angel and Highlander have long life expectancies.

Buffy is the only one and MAYBE Angel that has any shelf life left. POTA and Highlander are so stale they've been pitched. There's a reason nobody is doing products of them anymore.

Ironman1188 said:
But, you can't flood the market with a bunch of figures from one license all at once [as they did with POTA] or suffer from likeness issues [Brent, Willow, Faith.....] or never deliver the central characters for the longest time [Giles took forever, Cordy was never delivered under the Buffy license, the Angel license was totally ****ed, no Ramirez, no medeival Kurgan, no ape-o-nauts]

Are there that many POTA figures overall that could have flooded the market? Buffy did have problems AS I'VE SAID. Delivering characters I think with Buffy was them trying to get everyone out. Buffy fans should open their mind to all the characters IMO. As far as Ramirez I believe his likeness wasn't available and Kurgan would have been nice for those that wanted hum, but for a line that nobody was buying from could be too $$$ to do.

Hot Toys is blowing them away in terms of quality, assortment, accessories and gear. Thats not just an opinion its just about every objective collectors opinion.

So you're only objective if you think someone is doing better than SS? I don't that's my right and doesn't make me "not" objective.

Ironman1188 said:
I see it on a lot of boards. And maybe $ide$how doesn't even care as they're getting a cut anyway. I could never see $$C delivering a figure with the quality of the Predator or Endo. Not to mention a Power Loader.

SS will have no doubts delivering better because IMO they have.

$ide$how was great. I have tons of their figures. {and not just from POTA :D }

How about IS great.

Ironman1188 said:
Let's face it, the bottom line is they have abandoned the basic non $tar War$ 1:6 collector. It was a business decision to make money. Thats understandable. I hope that all the folks who were those 1:6 collectors abandon them. Nothing personal, just a collector decision.

You're very bitter. Not as bad as Kodiak but man you're getting there. If you cannot refer to Star Wars and Sideshow without the "$" then I'm done talking with you. As you cannot be an adult.

Well, that's why I said "most" announcements lately... :D

Hard to believe how Leia costs $55 when Kenobi (which was much more elaborate and accessory-loaded) was only $50???

But thanks for the kudos. For me, it's getting to the point where I dread being involved with such threads because there are members who seem to want to pick a fight over issues. Plastic Fett was an unbelievably great example of this.

Well, things can be worded where it comes across as they're stating fact or their opinion as fact. That's what I'm talking about.

I'm not looking for a fight but I'm not gonna back down from posting my opinion either. If people honestly don't like "mine" all that much I have no issues with someone slapping me on ignore. :)
