If Sideshow quits on Joe anytime soon, like they are doing with Indy...I will sell my existing stuff and never buy a Sideshow product again and be done with them...and if I buy another 1/6 figure,it will be from Hot Toys only

Which should pretty much mean you're still buying from Sideshow unless you're picking them up internationally off of ebay. :dunno

Where's all this chicken little talk coming from in the Joe and SW sections? Is it really just because Indy is on hold? Gentlemen, it doesn't take an arms dealer to see that the Indy line DID NOT SELL whereas both Joe and SW sell pretty damn well. :rock

Sideshow is not Hot Toys (and thats an understatement).Sideshow distributes Hot Toys (big difference)as you already know.If they quit on another line,I am done with them

This is a totally newb post/statement, but I got to say it . . .

WHY don't HOT TOYS assemble some serious $ investors . . . BUY OUT Sideshow Collectibles . . . FIRE the all of the design, marketing, and quality control idiots . . . bring in their own/superior people . . . and really really really turn Sideshow into a formidable company it really can be without all the BS and stupidity we see from time to time when it comes to how they care for a particular product line. If we can get HT authenticity, design, and quality on virtually everything Sideshow product as their current prices . . . I doubt we'll the same amount of complaints and whining we see on a regular basis.

OK . . . I got that out. I'm ready for my statement to be riddled with problems and etc.

It's foolish not to think that at some point this line will end with Sideshow shifting focus to dios and PFs. That's their main goal anyway. I used to think otherwise when I first joined here, but it's pretty obvious that's the direction they want to go. Might not happen overnight and it might take years, but eventually, it will happen. Indy didn't sell well, not because it lacked rabid fans, but because of all the poor decisions made by Sideshow. Every single release was plagued by one issue or another:

1) Adventure Indy - loose buggy Pro
2) Belloq - you couldn't even see the likeness if you squinted at it
3) Toht - His glasses and the softer sculpt, the Ark was a complete failure and put to shame by Hasbro's
4) German Indy - barebones, overpriced and bobbleheaded, not to mention the rocketlauncher is too short and the shirt is the wrong color.

The verdict's still out on Senior, but at this stage, they're already putting the final nails in the casket. The fact that Sr. comes with all the TLC goodies tells me that he'll likely be the only TLC release and the fact that they announced the pause before KOTCS Indy, the line's demise.

Taking all that into account, and seeing the same thing happen with many of their other 12" lines, watch for the signs with the Joe license and you'll see it coming from a mile away.

The fact that they distribute HT means you'd still be paying them either way unless you pick up their products from the Asian market directly.

HotToys is the junior to Sideshow's Senior. They don't put out nearly the amount of product Sideshow does, lack the overhead of a company like Sideshow and I seriously doubt they'd have the resources and wherewithal to pull that off anyway. Besides, they're plagued with their own QC issues at the moment which, at their price points, is less forgivable.

the reasons we get variants is because they need to keep the figure fans happy while they use their resources to work on Dios, PFs, and probably LSBs. they don't have time for new original figures. can't wait for some GI Joe LSBs.

This is gonna be great year for GI JOE, I can't wait... ROC LSB's :rock

Do they even have the movie license? Man, I can see Sideshow announcing the first Joe PF, CC from the end of ROC.. the collective flying poopballs from freaks would darken the sky. It'd be like 300's arrow scene.

What do you think the profit margin is for SS on 1:6 figs vs PF's and such, I assuming they make significantly less on 1:6, and more on the others.

In the end I think that is what kills these lines, line LOTR and Indy, they cant justify the time spent making smaller margins. Once the Joe line has some stragglers hanging around, I think we will see the same thing

I imagine the whole design aspect is harder and a lot more time consuming to do in 1:6 than 1:4, trying to miniaturize everything without having it look hokey or Barbie-ish. Not sure about the sculpt but I know if I were doing it, I'd rather have a bigger canvas to work with vs. a smaller one. Plus, they're buying the bodies as well, vs molding them in-house.

I'm already happy with what SSC has made in the 12 inch line. We know Beach Head, Firefly, Helmeted Cobra Commander, and Crimson Guards (most likely) are on the way. I hope we see 1982 Snake Eyes, Destro, Major Bludd, Scarlett, Baroness, and at least one more "green shirt" before they're done.

Other color variants like the Stinger Driver and Tiger Force Duke would be easy (and cheap) for them to do as well.

I'd prefer to see all five green shirts (Breaker, Flash, Rock n Roll, Short Fuze, and Zap), plus Stalker and Doc. Once they have the basic formula, I can't imagine much more R&D would really be necessary (similar to the Cobra troopers and their variants).

I would hope not to get Tiger Force or Python Patrol colored characters as SDCC exclusives, but the way things are going, I kind of expect it now.

Like Devil says, if they want to do similar, but slightly different characters, I hope that they go with the more basic "greenshirts" of the early released Joes. Just throw in a new headsculpt, a new accessory here or there, maybe a pair of sunglasses or a pack of bubble gum for instance and a different gun.

Agree, they can knock out Short Fuze, Zap, breaker, grunt ect as "variants" since they are similar.

And I don't see the Joe line going on "hold" anytime soon. I'm sure we will have a good set of core characters and then some by the time that happens.
