I've changed my mind about KOTCS

BTW, I think KOTCS is 90% great movie, 10% WTF. One more script draft, a little simplification and set of fresh storyboards would have made it second only to ROTLA.

Fridge survival - OK
Flying fridge - Over the top
My suggestion - Fridge collaspes into underground mine shaft that subsequently closes in after blast which shields away the majority of the radiation fallout.

Crystal Skull Aliens - OK
Temple that turns into transdimensional UFO - Over the top
My suggestion - Aliens do not come to life but in the spirit of the 50's B-movie aspect they were going for the 13th skull is a key to the trans-dimensional portal that causes the temple to collapse. Classic temple escape - minus Alien mind-zapping Spalko and giant flying UFO.

Swinging from vines - OK
Swinging from vines with an instantly befriended pack of wild monkeys - Over the top
My suggestion - Rabid monkeys actually attempt to attack Mutt, Mutt gets away when Russian soldiers become victim of monkey attack. Mutt is reunited later with a grieving Marion who thinks she lost her son.

My suggestions keep these story elements, but give them a simplified explanation.

Nice, theropod! I agree, just a few simple changes would have made the situations feel more plausible and would have greatly benefited the movie. That's the major thing I feel Raiders did right compared to the other three: it managed to feel more plausible and grounded, despite some (arguably) outrageous scenarios.

I can understand both sides. When I came out of the theater after watching it, I wanted to jack knife an 18 wheeler full of puppies into an orphanage. I called all my friends and told them how mad I was.

I've never had a movie make such a turnaround with me before. I could go watch it again right now & i'd enjoy it. I agree that the other 3 Indys are better (ROTLA is the best!), but KOTCS is good. I think with Indy aging so much through the films, the times had to change & Indy had to change as he got older (as we all do and will). He can't fight Germans forever, he can't end up being 75 years old and be on adventures with his dad.

I actually like Mutt & Spalko.

I thought it was fine. I enjoyed it when I saw it in the theaters. Prior to seeing it, I had already made peace with the fact that it wasn't going to be as good as Raiders. I knew that just from Lucas's recent track record.

My heartbreaking disappointment with Indy was when I saw Last Crusade. To me, it just felt so lighthearted without any real peril or danger. After all those years since Crusade and Skull, I knew that Raiders was its own thing. Temple of Doom came really close, and I enjoyed the hell out of it when it first came out (I was 11), but Raiders was an anomaly.

With all that in mind, Skull was fine. I had a blast. I especially loved the Greaser/Jock fight and the following chase, and the quicksand bit.

Felt the same way.

So some of you have mentioned the bridge scene. Well, yes it's an awesome part of the movie, but I think the Nuking the fridge scene will be as Iconic and up there in Indy's greatest moments. Farfetched? Yes, but no more farfetched than the Heart ripping or the Inflatable raft parachute (note ,this has a waterfall scene just as big as the ones in KOTCS). May I add that I love TOD and that it's my second favorite Indiana Jones movie.

I enjoyed KOTCS well enough when I saw it in the theater. However I haven't been able to bring myself to buy it on DVD and I'm not sure I have a much of a desire to see it again right now. I kind of feel like I saw it, I experienced it and that's pretty much that.

I don't think it was quite on par with the others, not because it was more far-fetched or outlandish, but it just wasn't as clever in its execution. Even if you think the gags in TLC or TOD weakened the films overall in tone and quality, they still served to pull one scene through another and propel the film along in a well edited manner. KOTCS just never acheived that fluidity of motion for me.

Maybe some day I'll go back to it again and give it another spin.

TOD is my least favorite film of this series. I would put KOTCS above it honestly or at least tied with it.
agreed. Willie and Short Round got on my nerves.
and people who say that KOTCS is anywhere close to "the worst movie ever" need to step back from their nostalgia and get some goddamn perspective.
movies are not sacred and sequels are not a personal attack on anyone's childhood. hating a movie just because it's new is retarded.

I found Indy too patient and understanding in this one. He should have been abusing the hell out of the kid....where was the dry wit I love so much?

yeah, that bothered me. I realize he's older and wiser, but they missed an opportunity for fun dialogue between the two.

I enjoy the movie on certain levels. Mainly to see my childhood hero back for another adventure. If you look at the movie as just a movie, it's a letdown IMO. Why oh why doesn't Lucas work with Lawrence Kasdan anymore? I know Kasdan defends Lucas in almost any interview I've read with him. It's not like they had a falling out.

Just imagine how much better TPM, AOTC, ROTS and KOTC would have been with a better dialogue writer.

I liked it in theaters and still like it after watching it on DVD. There were some ridiculous moments but overall it was fun movie.

Raiders: 10/10
Temple: 7/10
Last Crusade: 7/10
Crystal Skull: 4/10

Temple and Crusade were marred with some over-the-top stuff but they still "worked".

I think they should have gotten a new Indy and continued with the original time-frame. Have Ford play a cameo or something. It was time to pass the baton. I just hope that we don't get a "Mutt Jones vs Godzilla" next...

I agree with you on this one, die. I did not like it in the theatre, and when the ufo took off in the end, I felt like throwing my popcorn at the screen.

My brother bought it on DVD, so I watched it at his house and I loved it. Still got a problem with the ufo at the end though. But, the Hangar 51 scene more than makes up for that.

Uhhhh NO!!! Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. No one will ever or should ever play the role. Besides, Harrison was fine as an older Indy. I like the movie, not nearly as much as the others, but I think one more script polish would have benefited the film greatly.

And Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. Simple as that.

Raiders: 10/10
Temple: 7/10:horror
Last Crusade: 7/10:horror
Crystal Skull: 4/10:(

Quite possibly the most offensive post I have ever read.

Take this

There is no debate there, Ford IS Indy, no one else could ever be Indy. I would kill Lucas is he tried to do something like that.

in my own mind once harrisons out I can't see Indy anymore.
At least not for a very long time anyway.

Ford will always be Indiana Jones.
