I've changed my mind about KOTCS

I think they should have gotten a new Indy and continued with the original time-frame. Have Ford play a cameo or something. It was time to pass the baton.

Oh my goodness, NO! The thing I was worried about the most with KOTCS is if Ford could still be a good Indy. Turns out he can be and was the best part of the movie. I just hope they do a fifth because, to me, Indy movies seem to have reverse-Star Trek disease. The odd number ones are the best.

I think it was an enjoying ride to be on. I had fun watching it. The other 3 were better in plot and premise, but KOTCS was still a nice adventure to watch.

Watched it not too long ago. Still enjoy it. NONE of these are saints, all have silly elements when you think about them. This one is just another of them. To be honest, the one that never holds me is Last Crusade. I like it, but don't love it. All that JUNIOR mess. I like Indy in charge. At least in KOTCS, he is THE MAN. Even gets the girl at long last. There is merit in the movie.
It's not Raiders of Temple though. Those are still the most serial related movies I love most.

The warehouse sequence is the only thing reminiscent of the old Indy, the rest of the movie was terrible. The funny thing is..I kinda come to expect the worst with Lucas but I was SHOCKED that it was as bad as it was with Spielberg being involved.

Lucas fired Frank Darabont. I read most of the script, it was way better then KOTCS. Felt more akin to the other films.

This movie has grown on me also. when i saw it in the theater i hated it maybe because i was expecting the magic. Also the hype didn't help.. after sitting and knowing what to expect i really enjoy the movie for what it is entertaining.

I feel about the same as when I first saw it. It's fun.
It's fitting that the first film is not called "Indiana Jones and the...." because the sequels all feel a bit EU to me. Each one gets more silly and cartoony.
I consider Raiders to be the perfect example of an action/adventure movie - the apples inevitably fell pretty far from the tree.

Wow I never knew they fired FD. Lucas is crazy. Besides Raiders the Last Crusade is amazing. It should have ended with that one OR they shouldn't have waited so long to make another. The how vibe was missing from the last movie.

I agree with a number of people here, in that I never hated it to begin with, and still don't, ranking it as a lesser Indy film, but by no means is it a "bad" movie. I also think it was people setting their expectations too high that led to such vitriol against it. Yeah, the monkeys and the ants and the UFOs and the hiding in the fridge during the nuclear bomb are all kind of stupid, but as Les Walker said, all of the Indy movies have crazy, unbelievable stuff in them, so I don't think its too fair to criticize this movie on those grounds without saying that the end of Raiders sucked because it had ghosts.

I actually do that with all movies I watch that have sequels. I know that when Raiders was made it was NOT under the pretense that Indy went to the Temple of Doom with Willie Scott the year before. I love TOD but I still ignore it when watching Raiders.

I find that most movies just play better when you take only the context that was created for that specific story.

The only exception is when movies are made back to back like LOTR.

I've seen it twice thus far - I hated it at the theater...but enjoyed it on DVD.

I guess the 2nd time I knew what to expect and all the WTF moments werent so shockingly bad as I knew what to expect. That mid-section is still boring though.

I used to do the same thing until I started watching the Adventures of Young Indy. Now I like to think back to all of the old adventures he had when watching the new movies, ESPECIALLY with KOTCS since he mentions some of the things he did in Young Indy in that movie. Which I thought really kicked ass.

Actually, while I don't think they need to recast Indiana Jones just yet -- I will be the lone voice of support and say that I agree with you that they could pass the baton eventually. They recast James Bond, Captain Kirk, Spock, Bones McCoy, Superman, Batman, Joker -- why not Indy?

Yeah -- Ford is Indy. But, Connery was Bond. Keaton was Batman. Shatner was Kirk. Nimoy was Spock. Kelly was McCoy. Reeve was Superman. Nicholson was the Joker. But if they had stopped there -- we'd have no Craig/Bond, no Bale/Batman, no Ledger/Joker, no upcoming Pine/Kirk or Quinto/Spock. No hope of any more Superman movies.

I have no problem with a recast or reimagining of Indiana Jones. At some point, it becomes time to move on ... and, we must choose whether the character dies, or we recast. I think the Indiana Jones could ultimately transcend Harrison Ford -- like Bond and Kirk before him ...

We'll likely see the torch passed in film as it nearly was at the end of KOTCS, from Indy to Mutt with the fedora (thankfully they spared us the agony of seeing Shia put it on). Shia's even been asked how he'd feel about taking the Indy torch and running with it and was pretty stoked about the idea. Ford was also up for another movie. As time stretches on, I guess we'll see how far his commitment goes, beit a cameo or a final full bore Indy flick with him assuming a role similar to Connery's.

Yay! I can't wait for that! :pow

RIP Indy :angelsmil

Here's how the four films rate on the all-time box office results for the U.S.

#23 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($317M)
#52 - Raiders of the Lost Ark ($242M)
#93 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ($197M)
#116 - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ($180M)

It's a long drop from 23rd place to 52nd, regardless of what time and inflation have done to box office receipts. Sandwiched between KOTCS and the original Indy trilogy are 29 pictures including Chronicles of Narnia, Home Alone, three Harry Potter films, two Pirates of the Caribbean films, Shrek, A Night at the Museum, Matrix Reloaded, and Bruce Almighty.

So pronouncements that the public hated KOTCS might be colored a bit by personal tastes not actually shared by the public. :D
