I really couldn't see a HT line of Star Trek selling well...I'd take the original classic true, but not the current crew of classic! Ahem, something like that

Imagine if HT sold a line of TOS figures and each one included a piece (or two) of the bridge. Altogether they would form a full 'piece of pie' of the classic bridge and act as a display dio for the collection.

You really don't think that would sell?

Not really feeling it

I'd love TOS figures each with different shirts. Kirk could come with his gold shirt, green shirt and Mirror universe ISS shirt

I'd be all over it, myself!!

If Enterbay did that they would be demonstrating they don't understand Star Trek TOS. Bones is a core character. He is Kirk's conscience given a voice. One of the reasons ST2:TWOK is so great is Nick Meyer understood the importance of McCoy and used him effectively.

The poster and title are clear departures from typical ST fare. Kudos to 'em, I say. If it's only half as good as the first movie, it'll still be awesome.

Yes. I have some experience with this as this is exactly what I did. But LT is a far cry from being a captain of a ship in charge of hundreds of people. LTs are brand new (and often still in the "college kid" mentality) and with no experience aren't given much more respect or responsibility than privates. We often joke that our only job is to try and avoid accidently blowing up the base.
Hell, most people spend the majority of thier careers as a LT doing random office work around base or in job training waiting to be promoted. Usually it takes two years to be promoted to a 1st LT, and another three to be promoted to Captain. But even when you make the rank of Captain you still aren't given that much to be in charge of. It just means that they trust you to be professional, make smart decisions, and do your job without being constantly watched. Expect 10 years before they trust you to be in charge of anything larger than a small office staff.

Im not quite sure how the Star Trek Starfleet ranks work, but if I had to guess id say that the Captain of a starship would probably be the equivilant of a Colonel in our military. Someone who has 15-20 years worth of experience under thier belt and has stood out from thier peers over the course of thier career as a clear leader. There is no way in all hell they would hand over the command of a giant starship to a brand new officer. Not unless they want the worlds largest government subsidized party bus roaming the galaxy.

Star Trek ranks mirror current naval ranks. A naval captain is the equivalent of a full army colonel (for that matter, a naval lieutenant is the equivalent of an army captain).

So yeah, it was odd. But Pike did mention it only took a few years to get to captain in Starfleet early in the movie (which was also odd, I thought), so I guess Kirk's advance promotion wasn't completely out to lunch, considering what he did... And maybe more time passed between those scenes than it seemed?

The rank thing bugged me a lot in the first JJ film. An Academy cadet on probation leapfrogs everyone else on the ship to the Captain's chair!?! He hadn't even been an Ensign yet!

The art of movie posters is dead...
WTF??? :yuck

I think we're in the age of fan posters. Maybe the studios should start hiring some of the fans, because most movies have alot of cool fan posters circulating anymore.

Yeah, it was kind of stupid.

He could have gotten their highest award and advance promoted to lieutenant, if anything. That would have been more realistic.

A quick word along the lines of Pike saying he'd be a captain before long and Kirk replying he'll see him in xx number of years would have been fine, and would have also hinted at when we might expect a sequel. After all, he only needs to be the real captain for the sequel, not the years in between.

I don't think we'll see really good posters, and for that matter really great summer lineups, until after the robot apocalypse. The world needs a reboot.

If it had been up to me Kirk would have been assigned to the Farragut and served the time between the ST1 and ST2 EARNING the respect he eventually holds.

As DPrime says, he doesn't need to be Captain just yet. That could have durring the second or third film.

I think that's exactly why they're terrible. They look like fan posters.

It's all over photoshopped nonsense. And it's boring.
