The title doesn't really sound Star Trek at all to me. I actually find it hard to believe that this is the actual title, versus some fake title to throw people off.

I enjoyed all the characters in the new film, although I found it interesting that Uhura had more lines in that film than in the entire series and classic movies together.

I actually like all of them.
And I think Pine did a great job using some of Shatner's mannerisms without overdoing it.

I agree, Pine did a fine job without trying to do a Shatner impression, which would have been a disaster.

Pretty sure she's Dr. Elizabeth Dehner.

Regardless of how much the producers try to dismiss Karl Urban's "Gary Mitchell" slip-up, using that episode as the plot really seems to add up. Plus, candid photos from the set showing Eve demonstrate a striking resemblance to Sally Kellerman's version of Dr. Dehner.

Except for one thing: the comics. I believe it was Alex Kutzman (sp?) one of the writers, who has stated that the new Star Trek ongoing comics set in the new universe are canon, and serve to lead into the new movie, and that they've been designed to give clues to plot points in the new film (that we likely won't get until after the movie arrives). It's been one of the biggest selling points of the series. And what was the comic's first issue? Gary Mitchell.

Now, it's not the first time Star Trek's producers have said something outside of film is canon only to go back on their word (the Jeri Taylor Voyager novels are a good example). But it seems like they've gone out of their way to ensure everyone that the comics are canon this time around, and now they go back on it? Just doesn't seem in character.

Now, both Alice Eve's and Cumberbatch's character have been labelled as canon...but we have no idea what that means, yet. They haven't even said it's necessarily canon for the original series. So heck, Cuberbatch could be Q for that matter. There's also nothing that says they have to go together (like Dehner/Mitchell, or Marcus/Khan). They could be mashed together from multiple stories. Hell, she could be Nurse Chapel for all we know.

Paramount Showing Nine Minutes Of ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ On IMAX Screens December 14

BREAKING: Paramount Pictures will release the first 9-minutes from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness on 500 IMAX 3D screens beginning December 14 on runs of the Peter Jackson-directed The Hobbit. That’s way before the film’s release next May. It is the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D and only the third time a first-look will be released in IMAX.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

The film used IMAX cameras to capture several sequences. Exclusively in IMAX theaters, sequences filmed with the extremely high-resolution cameras will expand to fill more of the screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity, putting moviegoers right into the explosive action and vast scope of the film.

Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci wrote the script and Abrams directed the film and produced with those guys through Bad Robot.

Agreed about the title, it wold at least make sense better if it was "Star Trek: Into The Darkness"

Makes me think of those "before and after" puzzles from Wheel of Fortune:

I disagree it doesn't look out of place with the names of the older ST movies. Wrath of Khan, Final Frontier, Into Darkness, Undiscovered Country, Voyage Home.

See? Fits right in.

I'm just glad it isn't a one-word cliche, like Revelations or something.

Uh-uh, it doesn't fit in at all, the way it is written is as one sentence...

"Star Trek Into Darkness". Spoken as one flowing sentence instead of title (pause) subtitle

It should by all rights be "Star Trek: Into Darkness" which would have the franchise title prefixed "Star Trek" and then the subtitle "Into Darkness" suffixed.

There's a reason the Thor and Cap sequels have the subtitle seperate from the character title otherwise it reads and pronounces all different

Eh, everyone is just going to say "Into Darkness" anyway. It works fine for me.

I just read that when The Hobbit is released that in IMAX 3D viewings only they will show the first 9 minutes of Star Trek 2....
