As long as I can pretend *THAT* scene didn't happen, I really enjoyed this movie.

The movie was doing really well on its own, there was no need for it to try to stand on the shoulders of what came before.

I agree that they JJ Abrams went a little too heavy on certain "moments" from previous star treks which it really didn't need. :lecture

I got your back on that one Josh. I enjoyed IM3 more, but both were very good movies...

Thank ya sir! :hi5: I agree both movies kicked ***. :rock

I just finished seeing the film and I came away from it satisfied. I would say the first film was a little bit better but not by much. As for the borg being introduced, I can't see it. Way to early for it, especially since they are only now beginning to truly explore space. I can see the Klingons being heavily involved in the next film and also I loved the way they looked, completely menacing and badass.
Well done JJ Abrams :clap

I am now curious what they're going to do. The Klingons are gonna be hardcore badasses in the next film.

I have a feeling it's going to be about time travel and whales. :(

I thought this was decent. I had a few problems with it, most of which have already been mentioned. Since I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, I see no reason to put forth the effort into discussing them here. :lol

Overall, pretty good, though corny and predictable at times.

:exactly:

IMO, I can see the Klingons wanting revenge on humans for the "Kronos Massacre" and that Kirk and Spock will be held accountable for it in the next film.

I could see the, wanting revenge. I don't think Kirk and Spock will be in trouble though. They went to that well already.

From what I hear they have their asses handed to them in this film.

I didn't say have their asses handed to them.

Saw this last night, it was good. It's the first 3D movie I've seen since Avatar. Most characters just looked like paper cut-outs against a backdrop, is that "normal" for 3D. . . as in, it's just not that great?

Saw the movie last night, I really enjoyed it. Best blockbuster so far this year, hoping Man of Steel tops it.

This movie was not filmed using a 3d technique, but that crappy post conversion money grab, so no

I thought the 3d was good for a post conversion, may I ask where you sat inside the theater?? FYI the farther back you sit or the further on each side/corner seats the worst the 3d effect will be. In most cases the post conversion is so bad it doesn't matter where u sit but for this movie I thought it was pretty darn good considering. I had great seats though dead smack in the middle of the theater (row position and seat position). I only saw it in 3d because of feedback on this board saying it was worth it, and I have to agree.

Unfortunately where u sit really matters for 3d movies. Avatar is great 3d but I got stuck in a far corner seat in the back and I thought it sucked. I saw it again with good seats and it was awsome

I said to my buddy when the Man of Steel trailer played before this one that it was definitely the movie I wished we were there to see... I can't wait for Man of Steel.

Just saw this last night and I enjoyed it!

Now I notice in reviews that most Trekkie fans are furious that Abrams has taken Star Trek away from being this philosophical and intellectual approach to space travel. That is something that works and can be established over the time period of a TV show, but it is difficult to translate into film. Previous Treks "tried" it and it didn't go over so well. Even still, there were moments where the intellectual/philosophical approach was taken. Opening the torpedos on a remote planet, using cold fusion to stop an erupting volcano and save a species, Kirk changing his mind to capture Harrison as oppose to just kill him, etc.

The characters were awesome, sad to see that McCoy, Chekov and Uhura seemed a little underutilized in comparison to the rest of the cast but I think they had to do it in favor of bulking up the villain and the over-arching "let's start a war" plot. Zachery Quinto once again proves he is the PERFECT new Spock. This is a case where the new cast was almost perfectly chosen to replace the older one. I do have my problems with Kirk at times acting like a teenager but hopefully he'll mature a bit more past this film. Nice twist adding Kirk's future lover, Carol Marcus.

The twist with Harrison/Khan was sort of expected. Benedict Cumberbatch did a good job but wasn't really allowed much room to expand outside of having a stone cold killer face on for most of the movie. I would've liked to have seen some of the charisma that Ricardo Montalban's Khan is famous for. I think they should've allowed for more room for you to "like" Khan a little bit before realizing how deviously evil he really was.

The movie did try to capture moments from the "Wraith of Khan" in their own unique way. I did get times where I felt like "we've seen this before", but at least they developed Khan as a genuine threat with him destroying Starfleet facilities and then trying to destroy Starfleet in the city of San Francisco by crashing the Vengeance.

Klingons were awesome too! Can't wait to see more of them.

One thing I love is how JJ Abrams and his crew do a lot of different camera angles on the ships and action that we hadn't seen before. I love the "shaky distance" cam which makes you feel like you're in the action. I also like moments where he zooms in from a distance at an unconventional angle (like going through the bridge viewscreen) and I think it adds a bit of depth and diversity from the old Trek stuff.

I can't wait to see a third Trek. Though it looks like Abrams won't be around to do it. The franchise has been put on a great path and hopefully Paramount and the rest of the franchise ownership will be sure to acquire great talent to keep it that way.

Also, I like the subtitle...Star Trek Into Darkness. I think that should continue. You could get titles like "Star Trek At War" or "Star Trek Beyond the Universe" or "Star Trek In Time". Another cool new feature that I hope they keep.

I liked Weller. I think he got the biggest laugh in my theater when he realized Kirk knew.

I also found him more threatening then Cumberbatch (what a name).

Its just not that great. Desensitized to already.
I was just saying to myself after this movie - I'm done with 3D.
I keep waiting for the next movie to blow me away, that shows me 3D is very important to the movie. But I just come out disappointed, a slight headache and tired eyes.

I really hope Man of Steel is IMAX, but NOT 3D. Please god....
