I think people mean it in the way that it's a kid's adventure during the 70's, it's certainly going to look like E.T in term's of style and i believe it was mentioned that it's somewhat inspired by et and other movies from that generation.

I get that. It's E.T. deconstructed. It even has J J Abrams purposely channeling Spielberg (who's onboard as Producer).

But when people say, "This looks like E.T." there is a certain implication that it will be about a little boy and his best friend who is a cuddly, friendly alien. SUPER 8 doesn't appear to be about that at all. Yes, it has kids. And, yes, it will aesthetically look and sound a lot like the 70's/80's Spielberg alien flicks. But IRON GIANT was actuallu more like E.T. than this.

I don't get the ET vibe. More like War of the Worlds but on a smaller scale.

I like that comparison:) ..so any guess to what the monster is? ..i wonder was it in that trailer somewhere?? ..i for one think it's something mechanical, but definitely alien or from another dimension since it sent those dog's running ..it also seem's to have some form of telekinesis or magnetism with all the floating objects that can be seen in the trailer.

It looks very, very promising. And I have that exact same space shuttle poster from when I was a kid. :lol I'm old. :(

At 2:04 look at all the floating object's they are all traveling towards to what i believe is the top of a water tower, i'm guessing the monster is on top of it ..if it is indeed there why are the soldiers not shooting???? hmm?

Also when that object there holding (tinfoil i think) shoot's trough the wall that object in the distance look's like a water tower.

I am a bit late to the party as I just saw this for the first time today, but this has a cool late 70's vibe that was in many of Spielberg's early movies, I simply have to see this.

Forget the Eighties, let's here it for the Seventies :woo

Thanks 4 the link dude! i will embed it for ya:wink1:

I'm now getting an Alan wake vibe of it now with all these moving objects:lol

Edit: Holy ____ is that the back of the things head at 00:30-31!!???? ..you can see it move a little as all the kids are staring at it, it look's small.

Did Steven Spielberg break his oath about not showing aliens in a bad light. I know he did War of the Worlds, but he claimed it was a remake so.....

I'm wondering if this isn't an alien then, or was that just for films HE directs and not produces?

I know! From the 4 previews released yesterday on various sites, it looks like a full out horror fest. I love it!!! :yess::yess::yess:

Saw this this morning. It was really good. I think this was definately a film about JJ Abram's childhood and his love for movie making and monsters. My dad was the same way and he totally loved this too because he completely related to the kids. He described it as ET meets the Goonies mets Jurassic Park. I think more Godzilla than Jurassic Park, but there was one scene in particular that really reminded him of JP. Either that or he just had Spielberg on the brain :lol

The monster is another new, creative looking creature like Cloverfield. So thats nice we get another beast that looks different from the man-in-a-suit look.

Its a solid 3 1/2 out of 4 stars IMO. Go see it next week guys!

So there is an actual corporeal monster? (There was a scene in the previews making me think else wise.)

Glad to hear that is was good!

Yes, there is a real monster, but it is quite a bit different from most other movie monsters out there. Not going to say more than that though. :D
