Wor-Gar, cross your fingers for me, I just checked my tracking and Jabba and Throne are in CT now, that means he'll ship out to MA tomorrow, but with the pending weather I may be having the day off to avoid the rough roads, so hold hope for that weather will not be so bad and I'll head into work to get him, that way you can see some of my stuff before you take off.

I'm not actually going to use it myself, I don't have the resources to display him like that, I'm just looking at the whole matter as a chance to get my art in people's home. My plan is to just build a scale image that covers the wall to the sides of the opening and a few feet worth of the arch, and all of the background, and then do an image of the floor to fit with it as well, then work the file to people's size requirements.

WOW, that sounds amazing, man. I seriously can't wait. I just think hi-res backgrounds are very cool for so many collectors, it is one thing to pose a fig, then a completely different experience to see a figure displayed against a hi-res background from the film. We've seen images of figs with backgrounds and it kicks ass but to see a figure displayed in front of an image as a physical foreground is such a cool concept. I truly believe this can and should become a very important aspect to displaying hi valued collectibles...

I don't know if it'll make any sense to you pjam, cuz I don't know your knowledge of imagery on the computer, but my work will be at 300dpi.

I don't... :lol I just know what looks cool to me and that kind of display concept is extremely cool. :D

Well to give you an example, the average picture you see online is 72dpi, the web standard. DPI is Dots Per Inch, meaning more image data per inch of print so the quality is greater, 300 is a standard for basic hi-res, and then you can go higher if it works. It's a lot like Megapixels on cameras.

I know about filmmaking and film history because of my profession and I know background imaging is the same concept which has been used effectively for decades but a moving image background of course. And we all know about painted set scenery, matte finish integration, actors set against a filmed background screen, etc... point I'm making conceptually is a physical figure set against an image can provide a higher level of appreciation as a display.

Well, it is my intention to put a lot of effort into this piece, and when it is done, I hope that it will look as if it were a still from the film.

I could cry right now with tears of joy or pain but I'll have to get off the paint smell (from Jabba) headache I have right now first. My most wanted collectable from my childhood is here in all its perfection and I cant display him properly! I gravely miscalculated the throne. Its freaking huge. It wont fit in either spot I had ready for it. I have absolutely no where to put it (except the closet). Tis a sad day indeed!
Thats what gave me a headache. I got the worst headache and I had to take a nap, so why does Jabba have to make me get a headache.

Wow! Awesome idea MaulFan...I was thinking of how I could do the steps to either side of the throne and the arch above Jabba. A high-res image might just work as the backdrop to the display. Sign me up for one too...

P.S., My Jabba and Throne have shipped. Over $80 in shipping charges to Canada! YIKES! I'm afraid to see what the customs charges are going to be too...

Derail moment:

I LOVE that sig, Fett! Awesome! Count me in on the pledge.

Thanks Wor-Gar, After seeing no SS Indy items announced at ToyFair2007, I felt it was time to kick my 'pledge' into high gear with a full-fledged banner! I've altered it slightly now to include the 'Civil War' thing...keep it topical amongst my fellow freaks on the board! Glad to see you joining in for the pledge...you've been one of my greatest supporters since day one, but with your avatar, I'd expect nothing less!

Let's keep our fingers crossed for that announcement at SDCC...If I'm not mistaken, SS did mention that a new licence will be announced this summer...July 1st is Indy's birthday...May 22nd is the ONE year until Indy IV mark...Man, It just seems like such a given...C'mon Sideshow, give me that announcement I've been dying for for years!!! :D

Very much so, but reports of the throne dimensions have seemed questionable, what one's i've read, so I figure with him coming soon enough I'd just wait til Thursday and do it up. I've got a file started and all, but to make it work best gotta get it in scale, so first step is get the width down, then use a blueprint image I found online to scale the size of the steps to either side of the throne and work my way up from there.

oooh! sign me up. i have a nice white plain wall behind mine that really needs something.

Your work on this is muchly appreciated. I'm still working out how to incorporate it into my setup.

BTW, the dimensions of the throne base, excluding the gargoyles, are 25.5" x 15" x 4"....
