Hey Maulfan, do you have a write up/recipe on your custom Leia?
Hey Maulfan, do you have a write up/recipe on your custom Leia?
Been awhile since I had done this, so I almost forgot about it. Here are some old images of my first ever custom figure. Sideshow's Jabba setup is fantastic, but for me, the big guy just isn't whole without Slave Leia, but the Hasbro figures just would not do. With guidance from CustomMikey, I constructed my own figure. I started with Hasbro's first release Slave Leia, I prefer it because her skirt is a velvety cloth instead of the thin material used for later versions. Next, I ordered this body through the Triad Toys website:
I then removed all of the clothing elements and the head from the Hasbro figure. I had to trim some rubber from the bikini bottom elements in order to have it fit to the new body, then I used a thread and needle to tie all of the pieces of the lower bikini together and in place, and using some rubber eraser material, I fattened the neck of the new body so that the Hasbro head would sit on it. I also had to remove the feet from the new body and just slid the calves into the Hasbro boots. My final step was to swap out the Hasbro neck chain with a necklace I had laying around home, the final result being this:
And finally, a minimalistic reproduction of the famous Luke and Leia Sail Barge swing image.
Check eBay, I got Leia off their when I got my Jabba for like $15-$20 and the body I got was the same. Not a bad price to have a Jabba setup that better fits my memory, somehow his throne seems bare without Leia atop it with him.
Yeah, I'm really surprised that SideShow went with a Boussh Leia vs. a Slave Leia. Especially seeing as how they were doing Jabba and his throne environment in all its glory. It would've made sense if there was a Han in carbonite accessory, or a Chewbacca in cuffs to stand beside her, but seeing as there aren't either (save for Hasbro), we're left somewhat inconsistent. With others like Jedi Luke, Bib, Salacious and the extra creature pack, it seems like it should've been a no-brainer.
Maulfan, thanks for the recipe!!!
Actually, Boushh was the no brainer. Boushh gives some bounty hunter flavor to the display and it's a fully clothed figure and gave them a good chance to test the armor waters before venturing off into Vader and trooper territory. Slave Leia from Sideshow as they stand isn't even an option. The female buck is hidesouly inhuman and only figures with 50% or more coverage even have a chance of looking ok with it, Slave Leia on that body would look horribly, it'd only give us parts for a custom bash, but at SSC prices, I'm not spending $50-$60 on parts alone when my whole current custom cost that for everything.
If you say so.... As I've stated, I fully agree about the buck, but if you're shooting for consistency, why have the Jedi Luke w/tunic in Jabba's palace with Boushh then? There's no ROTJ Vader to pose him with which means you're pretty much left with Jabba's palace. And remember, Boushh (Leia in disguise) and Luke were never in Jabba's palace at the same time. She'd already freed han and was Jabba's nimble little dancing bunny by the time Luke arrived. Then again, maybe I'm just being a little OCD about it.
It is inconsistent, but hell, for a time I had Boussh and Slave Leia on Jabba's throne, still looked cool. The choice for SSC was inconsistency in Jabba's palace figures or a ^^^^ty Slave Leia, I'm glad with their choice.
See, the irony is that Boushh was a real bounty hunter (in the Star Wars universe), so it would've been cool to have him actually show up at the palace and that being what tipped off Jabba to Leia's disguise and them waiting to spoil her true mission.
Was it Shadows of the Empire where they went into the back scenes with Leia killing the real Boushh, or something like that?

I personally agree that it's strange to have Luke and Boussh together. Where the OCD comes in is when you say that you can't have Luke face off against the upcoming Vader because he's the ANH version. While I'm sure there are plenty of people who can tell between the different versions of the costume at a glance, I don't think most can, and there is nothing in the story that indicates that one version of Vader has to appear in a particular movie. (In other words, it's not quite like pitting Batman in his new Dark Knight suit against R'as al Ghul -- that wouldn't really make sense from a continuity standpoint.)
That leaves Luke to his lonesome needing a scene to meld into while I patiently wait the next 5 or so years for SideShow to make the ROTJ Vader (hopefully with reveal!).
