I bought a throne railing from a fellow freak because I was thinking of making my own throne. The fact that I have never, ever made anything plus I would still need the gargoyles, plus I wouldn't know what material to use, etc, etc I think I am better off buying a throne.

I am looking for a cheap throne. I made the mistake (I think) of buying everything separate, Jabba, Bubocuillar, Boussh, Bib, etc. I say mistake because I have seen some bundles on the For Sale thread dirt cheap. I am so tempted to buy one but then what would I do with an extra Jabba, Bib, etc.

Sell them, and don't sell it as a bundle. I think you'd have an easier time selling off individual figures than full bundles, no point selling off a set deal unless you desperately want to unload a number of things at once and it's not about the money.

I know you're a big fan of the Sideshow Jabba setup, Maulfan, and it is very nice (Jabba himself in particular). But overall I actually have to give the edge to the Gentle Giant one. It's cheaper and smaller (which in this case is an advantage, since displaying the entire Sideshow Jabba setup is difficult). I also think it looks less toy-like than the Sideshow version. I agree that Jabba's face looks a little odd, although it's really grown on me after having it in my collection for a while. I couldn't disagree more about the thrones, by the way. The paint job on my SS throne, at least, is underwhelming while the GG one looks right to me.

Of course I couldn't choose between the two so I have both. They both have advantages and disadvantages. But I think I'd keep the GG version over the Sideshow one if force to choose, for the reasons above, and also because I have the Rebo Band and Rancor statues to go along with the GG version.

If Sideshow would just release a Rancor the issue of which is better would easily be solved :lecture

And I should have said in my post that I am biased towards 1/6 scale as that is the primary focus of my collection.

Yeah I can understand that. For me personally I don't feel the need to stick with 1/6 scale, and in fact I'm getting less interested in figures as time goes on.

Obviously one big advantage that the SS Jabba has is posability -- not of Jabba himself so much, but the rest of the figures on and around the throne.

Well I will give GG the space advantage, but as a visual representation of the film, I just find Jabba himself and the throne to look off, Oola, Bib, Leia, the band, they all look great, but the main guy just looks bad.

I would think a lifesized C-3PO would do that to a collector :lol

BTW, if you ever sell that gutted Taun-Taun keep me in your thoughts... I love that thing :rock

That just doesn't look like this to me.

Its almost like Sideshow's is a bit too stylized and clean... whereas the GG is too detailed and gross looking. Neither is 100% so it really just comes down to what scale and style you prefer.

For me it's about the technical matching. Sideshow's perfectly captured the look of the film puppet, something that Hasbro and others have failed at, and I love the design so much, with the GG and Sideshow being so close in size, it's hard for me to like the GG. If it were a significantly smaller piece or something I might embrace it as is, but where it's almost the same, it's like ok, swing and a miss.

I mean, I bought this because I love the Hutt :lol

Personally, and this is an opinion as a huge Jabba ROTJ fan, the SSC piece is a much better purchase than the Gentle Giant. While GG includes more characters and such, Jabba himself doesn't look very accurrate, SSC's looks perfect, and the throne doesn't seem in right proportion and doesn't have the right stone feeling that the SSC throne has. If it's either or, I say Sideshow.

I have to agree with you...
Here's how my set-up used to look a few months ago:

And this is how it looks now, sorry for the crappy pic...

SS Jabba is perfect IMO... sure it could be a bit more slimy and gross, but the proportions and sculpture are the best ever!! :rock!!

And the paint has good transition of the two shades, especially on the head, again, somewhere many places screw up and make too hard defined, the green comes in under his eyes like it should. I know, the retentive detail knowledge is coming in.

Though Jabba looks more orange in the movie, few products actually do that, I think LFL dication may be other tones. Hasbro, Sideshow, GG all go with a mustard look.

I can't wait to have Han in Carbonite to go with this.

Since we're having this Jabba love-fest, I thought I would post a picture of this original artwork that JPC_art on the Rebelscum forums just finished for me. It's an 18 x 24 piece, so it should look really nice hanging above my SS Jabba setup. :)
