Think if we give him his $12 back he'll leave the thread? how about it Snake? ;)

Haha. I'm not above accepting bribes, but if I needed the $12, I'd have skipped the movie ... so you're gonna have to do better than that.

Did you root for the humans in District 9 too? I hated those SOBs :lol

Kinda, yeah. Not nearly as much though. D9 was actually good.

Exactly!!! Why cant people just not enjoy movies for what they are like you say. To bash this film is stupidity in my mind its completely groundbreaking (and no i don't mean the story) but just such an enjoyable 2hrs 45mins of pure entertainment

You gotta realize that me not liking your movie isn't me calling you stupid for liking it.

Just a discussion. I really do love you. My only enemies are hard liquor and James Cameron.

I like sci-fi/ special effects pictures, and I generally like Cameron's movies. I am fully able to enjoy mindless entertainment ... and do, frequently. My favorite picture of the year was hardly some artsy fartsy European thing ... it was Star Trek.

This was not enjoyable. The characters were one-dimensional, and the story was just boring.

I was blown away by the effects personally, esp the opening sequence aboard the transport ship; and while not entirely consistent, the CG was for the most part breathtaking. That however can only take a film so far for me - well I should qualify - a film of this magnitude. What I mean by this is simply, if this were promoted as yet another mindless summer blockbuster a la Transformers 2/ad naseum then my standards would be dramatically different then with what is supposed to be the torch bearer for all things cinema for the near future. It certainly raised the bar for the future of film effects, but not for what holds more weight with me: the themes, characters and storyline. It is a bit like cotton candy, it tastes good and satisfies the senses; but doesn't fill your hunger or leave too much of a lasting impression.

I am by no means a "hater," and this term seems irrelevantly used anyway, it is being applied to anyone who doesn't bow before the Na'vi juggernaut.

Avatar did another 19 million yesterday. It did 16 million last Monday. I officially was wrong about this film's box office take.:lol At this point I have no idea where it will end up, but second all time is pretty likely. I am really interested to see what kind of drop off it has once kids go back to school, but even with that, it is still going to make a ton of money.

I will refrain from saying I told you so....whoops :lol

Last time I posted it was 85th all time-Now having grossed over $750 million worldwide after 14 days...no telling where it will end up. I think now its 31st all time but about 200 mil away from being #2 and beating TDK.

Sorry if this has been posted but its freakin hilarious!!!

Just in case anybody was wondering how to do it. :monkey5

I thought this video will be helpful, especially for Lightwave! :p

Personally I am staying out of the debate about good or bad or waste of money. Everyone on here who visited the board before it became a hit knew my predictions and my thoughts on the film and I was accurate. Its just fun to watch all the new people in the thread and it is very entertaining reading everyones take on it. Fun stuff!

Excited to find out it has been officially confirmed that AVATAR 2 AND 3 will NOT be on Pandora!

BTW the sex scene is being put into the special edition Avatar dvd....lol

Man i cant wait to see the film you 2 come up with

KAOSINLA/SNAKEDOCTOR

Its going to be one remarkable film cant wait guys!

If you're going to say something that stupid, you can at least fake a stroke.

Can one not be enamored with the EFX, imagery, and innovation in film-making technology while also having a coarse view of the directors/writers intent in message or cliched storyline? I don't subscribe to any camp, but hold just a viewpoint of positives and negatives with any movie. Excellence is not rubber stamped by name only.

By virtue of the thread title, this is a discussion...maybe a creation of an "I love Avatar" thread will preclude some from having or attempting to understand critique or others viewpoints.

Well said sir....You have intelligently discussed this film throughout the entirety of this thread.

Maybe they are mad they had to spend a few extra bucks for the glasses? It does suck, but you know they have to pay for the bucket load of glasses they have to get for every showing.

I don't mean to sound like an ??????? here but if people in this colleting hobby are only complaining about this movie because they are annoyed they spent 12$ and didn't enjoy it I don't really understand how you can spend that much on a collectible but be so pissed off about this.
:dunno

I understand you may not have enjoyed the movie but complaining about your money afterwards I would never do personally. Seems a little silly to me , its not like people on here can get your money back.
And if its about being annoyed to pay more for glasses surely you knew this before you paid ?.

Oh, good grief. I was being facetious about the $12 ... I spent 200 times that on Christmas gifts for the family. And, I'm hardly "pissed off" about anything -- its a discussion thread for a movie ... you might've figured that everyone wouldn't agree.

You wrote it , not me but I wasn't specifically talking about you anyway , hence the reason I said " people ". It's hard to tell over an internet forum if someone is being " facetious " or not. I'm not saying you can't complain either , I mentioned before I enjoyed reading the negative comments.

Just had to step in here - this is exactly what the fans of Transformers (like me) say and get bashed for it. "Enjoy it for what it is, don't over think it."

Avatar (and most of Cameron's other fare) is pretty much exactly the same as Transformers (NOT the plotline, just the general movie-going experience) - AWESOME effects, a bit of a silly story and horrible one-liners, and not the best acting... exactly like Transformers. But Cameron is much more high and mighty than Bay, so *some* people expect more from him. Those that expect more are not finding it in Avatar. Those that just want a fun romp at the theater are getting exactly that. Nothing wrong with either point of view...

Although, ultimately my point is... anyone who bashes Transformers and LOVES Avatar is a little hypocritical :duff

IMO, films like Star Wars or LOTR far outdo Transformers on an emotional and film-making/story-telling level.... but I really love Transformers FOR WHAT IT IS. I expect I will think the same about Avatar... it is NOT going to be a Star Wars or LOTR, but it's a fun time at the theater. I'm in line with LOTRfan - if they had sold it as simply another 'summer blockbuster' it would be a different story. Cameron's overbearing "I'm better than everyone" attitude just gets under my skin. Just because your movie makes the most money doesn't mean it is the best. (Titanic proves that ... is it on ANYONE'S top 10 film list? Do people re-watch it a million times at home? Nope - it's a "theater or nothing" film - in that respect I'd even argue that Transformers is a longer-lasting film and franchise, although I guess we don't really know yet - we shall see how the Avatar collectibles perform... and if anyone starts getting Avatar tattoos ;))
