There are competing racial interpretations ...

(1) That the blue indians needed the superior white guy to save them from the other evil white guys.
(2) That the superior blue indian culture was invaded by the evil/violent white guy culture, but a white guy converted to blue indianism helped bring down the man.

Well not only are people saying Avatar is racist, but it's also Trans-Bi-Homophobic as well.
Trans Activist Calls for Boycott of Avatar
By Advocate.com Editors

A Website attempting to stop the release of James Cameron’s Avatar argues that the film is offensive because in the future, human beings will evolve and transition to transgenderism.

“Heterosexual arrogance, assumptions or exclusions of alternative sexualities in movies is no longer acceptable,” reads the site StopAvatarMovie.Blogspot.com. “Diversity and tolerance are human rights.”

The website is sprinkled with arguments suggesting that given the current course of evolution, it would be far more likely for the film’s hero, Jake, to be gay, bi, or trans than it would for him to be straight.

“The film also makes a gross assumption that the old hetrosexual ways on Earth would somehow be occurring with another race of being on a totally different world with its own unique culture.”

The boycott calls on people to sand outside theatres with pamphlets upon Avatar’s release on Friday. It also suggests people buy tickets in bulk to see the film but not attend, because “an empty theatre sends a message.”

Comments on the site suggest most people find the argument in support of protesting Avatar to be weak.

“This is the dumbest thing I've ever read,” one commenter writes. “I'm all about being equal and breaking down the lines between the straight & LGBT community but seriously? You mean to tell me that you actually wanna start going after EVERY SINGLE MOVIE in hollywood from here on out that doesn't have some sort of LGBT relationship in it for that sole reason alone?”

The site's creator, who is described on the blog as a young transgender person living in the Bay Area, counters by saying going after Avatar will send a message to Hollywood because it is likely to be the top grossing film of the year.

Interestingly, the language of the Na’vi, the fictional race of people portrayed in Avatar, was created by University of Southern California linguistics professor Paul Frommer, who himself is gay.

Avatar opens Friday and is reportedly the most expensive movie ever made. It is Cameron’s first film as director since Titanic.

That's one of the weirder arguments I've ever heard.

here, let's try this experiment for size...

all you white geeks, imagine this. and i mean really give it some thought in your mind. imagine... that all the na'vi are caucasians. and that jake scully is played by a black actor. you follow the story in the film as it is... how the black dude became the rider to the red beastie while all the white folks could do is just stare at him in awe, and how later the black dude gave rousing speeches and rallied all the white clans from all corners of pandora, lead the battle and won because he, the black dude, not any of the whites, just the black dude... talked to the mother earth and the mother earth listened to the black dude and saved the world.

same thing applied to the last samurai. the japanese turned into caucasians, and tom cruise turned into some japanese dude.

So, cr'. I'm guessing that you are blue yourself? You seem very offended.

One difference between Avatar and Last Samurai is that in Avatar the blueys win. But you'd expect a bluey-lover like Cameron to do something like that.

I already saw that movie and it didn't offend me. Black guy oppresses white native guys, even kills one of them, until a more civilized, intelligent and determined black guy helps the white (and borderline inarticulate) native defeat the other black guy. Without the good black guy the white would not have won.

The movie? Rocky III.

I watched Snakes on a Plane I cheered and enjoyed that film.

Black dude had all of the best lines and speeches AND he got the white chick. I still cheered!

'White Geeks'
That sounds a bit racist to me. :lol

On a serious note I think we might have to find a new word for people who are oppressed by other races, because the meaning of the word racism has been diluted so much by the loony far left.

Oh and er Riddick is mixed race does that count?

You've got a closet full of unsold scripts don't you?

Nope. :)

But seriously, of the 5 nominees for original screenplay - 3 of them eschew the traditional structure of "Hollywood" screenplays - so saying they support the formula doesn't really stand up.

I couldn't disagree more. I suppose you're holding up The Hangover as your third, but at heart its screenplay is Hollywood by numbers.
