In Banni's defense I am not sure he was not factoring in the fact that a substantive chunk of Avatar's reported box office is the cost of those 3-d glasses. But even with that, the movie's revenue is still impressive.

I was factoring that in. I made a prediction and I was wrong. It made 70 million opening weekend. I thought it would have standard 40% drops each weekend, but it didn't. Thus I was wrong.

This is on the desk next to Snakes computer... :lol

Lol, I don't know what to make of that.

Opera...shes says the same thing about every movie she sees and book she reads.

I definitely think it should win every effects award out there. It would a joke for it not to sweep those.

Thats a lock for sure.

Absolutely. Best FX ever.
Best Picture? Yeh, not so much.

Ok.

40% drop in awesomeness has been noted.
I hope you're not talkin' 'bout Banny!

I do believe that his awesomeness has been raised by 40% if not more!

I didn't dream it would do this well either, hence my suggestion that Cameron sold his soul to the devil. There can be no other explanation. I liked it a lot - but the highest grossing movie ever? And the movie it's beating was so far out in front that no one thought it would be caught for years? And the same director/writer/producer made that film yet they are so dissimilar as to be on opposite ends of the genre spectrum?

It boggles the mind.

Well my nephew seemed to like it. He only requested 1 pee break. So it must have kept him interested. One pee break at 7 during a 3 hour time frame or so is pretty darn good. :lol:cool:

I have no problem with that. I admitted I was wrong. I was right about it depending on what kind of drops it would have in terms of box office. I was just wrong in that I thought the box office would drop after the first week, yet it really hasn't dropped at all, and probably won't for a while since it will be picking up award nominations.

Yeah, winning awards just helps its cause. The 3d glasses thing does skew it though. Its ashame movies such as the original star wars lose their domestic record they have held in sci fi genre for years because of that. But, the records have to fall eventually

Do you think with the advent of 3d and the higher ticket prices that the good ol days of box office battles have been changed forever? At least places like boxofficemojo have ways of calculating inflation and subtracting the 3d ticket premium

No, because there will always be nitwits on the Internet who mistake nominal box office as meaningful compared to figures adjusted for inflation. There will always be a new box office champ because of this.

I don't think it matters. Who still cares about Titanic? Has anyone actually watched it in the last five years? These things are just hollow bragging rights.

I have :wave I saw it a couple of years ago. Got the DVD box-set.

it's not the money, I just feel it doesnt deserve best picture, or best director. Well....I dont know, I might let best director slide. I do love Cameron. But he won already so....feh.

It deserved EVERY single penny it got. It's a fantastic film. It's what a movie going experience should be. But it aint perfect.

What is perfect?
Pick any other movie in exisitence and people will pick apart flaws, or die trying lol

Just accept it people. It made a lot of money, tons of people saw it, tons of people love, it's going to win awards.
And nothin you can do about it lol

And Snake just knows what it is to enjoy a movie for what it is and keep the young kid inside him. I'm the same way. This movie got me excited to go to the movies again. Saw it 3 times myself.

Uh, hell yea people have watch Titanic. It is a great movie!

Tickets cost $18 where I live. Adjust for inflation and the glasses fee and it's merely another blockbuster hit. I wonder what it will do on home video...

Adjust for inflation? Now? Don't you have to wait a few years until that even matters.

Also I thought overseas most showings were 2D and not 3D and they still accumulated a ____ ton.
