I was born September 21st 1991. My 3 favorite movies of all time are Alien, Aliens, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

So there you go. We cant have a decent dicussion with you if you've only seen movies from 1990 and up. You dont have much film knowlage, therefor, cant really contribute much in a film discussion...no?

I mean, none of us here have seen every movie, but we've seen enough to understand film, and what it is, whats good, whats bad, whats fun, whats not. You cant.

Go watch some of IMDB's top 200 list, and then come back. :D

Plus, you're missing out on some of th greatest films ever made.

I dont care, im not gonna watch every single movie that came out and that was old. When i was young i didnt freaking watch indiana jones, as i said i liked scifi and superhero movies. Alien was also my favorite as a child and jaws and godzilla and many of the old superhero movies like keatons batman. You must mistake me for some crazy avatar fan that thinks avatar is the best movie in the world , i loved the movie but i only saw it twice and its close to the dark knight.

Im pretty sure i can tell what movie is bad and whats not, its all a matter of opnion, I thought inglorious was boring and you think its awesome thier you go, dont tell me i dont understand something when im a big fan of many movies. Ive seen bad and good and great and horrible.

I expect a massive home video launch. I also expect it to gather dust on the shelf once people realize the 3D IMAX experience can't be replicated on their 32" screens.

A preemptive backpedal. Just as amusing. ;)

Avatar's worldwide gross to date: 1.85 billion

Avatar's worldwide gross to date from IMAX screens: 116.5 million

Feel free to come back and remind us after its massive home video sales that its really going to be gathering dust on shelves because 6 percent of the movie's fans saw it first on an IMAX screen. :gun

Domestically Avatar is playing on 3,542 screens, 2,038 of which are in 3D (including IMAX 3D).

Overseas however, it's playing on 17,222 screens of which 5,360 are 3D (IMAX and standard).

Interesting that its foreign sales, less than a third of which are in 3D, surpassed Titanic's record quicker than the US.

Bottom line: Avatar's 3D technology, cool as it is, is far from the reason for its popularity or its financial success.

I think the only thing we can say is definite is that we don't know the answer to why on this one. The arguement about it's technology being the reason is just as much a possibility as the next. Anytime a movie becomes an event, rhyme and reason go out the window.

Yeah, I think it has become an event in pop culture-and even those not interested feel pressured to see it just out of curiosity at this point. Winning awards like it did at the Golden Globes helps its cause too

It's not backpedaling at all - that's actually how I expect it to go down. The "wow" factor here has nothing to do with the movie itself and I think a lot of people are going to wonder why they were so hyped up when they see a 2D version on their TV at home.

To be honest, I may see Avatar once again in the theater, but I can't imagine being excited to see it again at home.

I like that new American guy who plays Bond. That Matt Damon guy.

Don't you mean Kiefer Sutherland?

I get my JB's mixed up.

Actually, I think Craig's harder-edged Bond is pretty much a response to Bauer and Bourne.

Its not that you cant like older stuff, but jeez i wasnt around the time of all these movies and i dont know them all so i get criticized for not knowing some stupid james bond flick its just a movie. I didnt say you had to be old to like old stuff either.

There are some movies you have to have seen in order to avoid having your man-card revoked. Several "old" Bond movies make the list -- particularly some of the early Connery ones. You'd better sit down and watch them ... it would just be embarrassing if you landed a chick (or even attempted to) who knows Bond better than you do.

I disagree completely. Although the 3-D is a nice added touch. I think the environments they created and the action portrayed in the movie is as good as the scenery in other top movies. I'm no Avatard but I have seen it twice in the theater and will still buy it when it's released to video.

They also have that new Black Bond who I'm not sure is your namesake or not Dennis Haysbert.

snake doctor was his call-sign on the unit

True enough. Though Bond/Bauer/Bourne are less military and more government agent than Jonas Blaine.

Jack Bauer
James Bond
Jason Bourne
Jonas Blaine
Jack Ryan
John McClane

J is a popular first initial, and JB a popular set of initials among the badass superspy/supercop class.

I gotta stop agreeing with you :D

Let's not forget John Browning.

Sure. But "as good as the scenery in other top movies" isn't really what's driving Avatar right now. It may be worth remembering that Hollywood rallied behind 3D because it gives them the opportunity to sell something you can't get at home. That's inevitably going to have an impact on home video sales moving forward, although how the relationship plays out remains to be seen.
