Yeah I think Avatar might get best Picture and Director, but it's competition this year is much stronger than Titanic's in 1997.
Kathryn Bigelow winning the DGA award for THE HURT LOCKER last week has set up for an interesting show-down on Oscar night between ex's for both Best Picture and Best Director. Some are now saying that the DGA win puts THE HURT LOCKER as the front-runner. We'll see.

I think that guy writes the most intelligent and articulate reviews in the whole wide world. :lol

The guy that took on TPM (and is working on AOTC) is back with an AVATAR review. Pretty funny stuff:

She has a pretty good shot at Best Picture, too.

Yeah, a lot of people say that if a film wins the best picture, the director should really get honored in their category too. It's like the movie directed itself if that's not the case, but I sometimes do like to see two different films get acknowledged in those categories, especially if it's a close race.

And all I see is PEOPLE vs Ironwez.

Please, stop it =P
I think we all got the idea of your opinions.. I think the fun of discussion is to talk about our points of view... but this topic lost that XD

Nobody fights with me its just me and celtic.

It could get snubbed at the Oscars for a movie with "better acting" but its hard to ignore its dominance in the box office. It will be interesting to see.

At the very least it will win best Effects easily.

Believe me, the Oscars don't care about box office at all. Look at The Dark Knight. Though Avatar might get a nomination, it won't win, unless Cameron has an awful lot of pull in Hollywood. Those kinds of films just don't win.

LOTR:ROTK won. It could be said that that film won based on Box Office and special effects alone. Many people feel it was the weakest of the trilogy.

I am sure Cameron has A LOT of pull in Hollywood.

Brilliant!!! :lol

Meh I am getting really tired of that guy. At least with the Phantom Menace one he had some of his own ideas and made it moderately funny. The Avatar one was a massive stretch just to go against the masses. Plus most of us already know the fail points of Avatar and except it because it is still a damn good movie.

It is my least favorite... which isn't saying much as its a killer movie. Not sure which is my favorite; but I always looked at its Oscar sweep as a nod to the overall trilogy; not just the movie that won.

Sure it did, and it represented the whole movie. They weren't going to give FotR an Oscar when the story wasn't finished. This was talked about when it happened. This won for the whole trilogy.

Also on the topic of crazy Avatar fans...the same ____ happened with the new Star Wars Trilogy, same ____ happened with LotR, Twilight and now Avatar. I am sure most of you have fallen into one of those categories before.

There were PLENTY of weirdos who wanted to live in Middle earth.

Don't forget Titanic and Gladiator. Hollywood likes big epic movies.

It was. Of course it's been too long ago now, but it was something that was talked about when it happened. That it was meant for the whole trilogy. It was a deserving win. All three parts were nominated. All three years there were tough competitors.
