The guy that took on TPM (and is working on AOTC) is back with an AVATAR review. Pretty funny stuff:

Irish sure does have a hard-on against some of these Avatar fans. I guess we should all be glad Watchmen wasn't a huge smash, or we probably would've ended up with a lot more of this:

OH SNAP :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Thank the lord we didnt get more of these running around :lol

prob not...I'd say it only won the golden globes is b/c it's the hot movie out right now

It could get snubbed at the Oscars for a movie with "better acting" but its hard to ignore its dominance in the box office. It will be interesting to see.

At the very least it will win best Effects easily.

I

But does it really have the best Visual Effects of the year?? Not being facetious. Honest question. Because I think that's debatable. To me, other films (including DISTRICT 9) had more realistic FX. There should be merit for the sublime.

I did feel that the effects in District 9 were great and one could argue that they were more seamless than Avatar, but there is no way in hell Avatar is not taking that category.

Oh, I'm not disputing that it'll win. No doubt that it will. Just mail the Oscar trophy right now and get it over with. I'm just wondering if folks (not just Hollywood bean counters and AVATAR fans) really think it had the best overall FX.

Avatar has the best special effects of any movie, any year, so yes it should most definitely win in that category. Not being hyperbolic, I know many "non-fans," both in and outside the industry, agree with me.

And even though Avatar is most certainly my favorite film of the year I'd love to see Tarantino get his due with a Best Picture Oscar for Basterds. Fantastic flick.

I'm not sure I agree with that. The best Special Effects EVER? Come now.

Do you really think its that far fetched of a claim? A $230 million Cameron epic? He has his faults but he's possibly the one director that always makes sure every penny shows up on screen.

Far-fetched? No. But it's highly debatable. Just because every frame of the movie has some kind of digital effect and he spent a quarter of a billion dollars on it should not earn that label. For some, the best Special FX are truly seamless and photo-real, so much so that you almost forget it's an effect. AVATAR had some of that, but for the most part the FX were far from sublime... they were up front and center and beat you over the head. It's certainly a huge technical achievement, but I'm not ready to accept it as having the best Special FX of all time. Heck, I wouldn't even go with this year. Because, yes, personally I think a movie like DISTRICT 9 had better overall Special FX. They were photo-real and were there only to serve the story, which they did perfectly.

The one thing Avatar won't beat Titanic on, will be Oscars

I hope it wins but if it dosent ohhh well.
I am just so happy that AVATAR was a slap on the face to all the people that put that movie down before it even came out.
what did people expect from the best director of our time.
IN YOUR FACE !!

AVATAR FTW!

Yeah I think Avatar might get best Picture and Director, but it's competition this year is much stronger than Titanic's in 1997.
