Whoever wrote that dialogue is a genius. Best lines I've heard all summer.

"Cameron has spent too much time underwater!" :lol

Brilliant stuff. This should be reposted on every page...

I don't think they are blue fairies...

Your not alone, there are a lot of people who prefer just sitting down and watching movies in 2d. My nearest imax is over an hour away and besides Avatar day the only other film ive seen in imax was superman. The way they are presenting the 3D is impressive and does aid in the story telling but if your not into it thats fine because the majority of showings will be in all your normal theaters anyway.

So just like any other movie you will get to watch it in 2d at your local theater. I want to see it in both just to compare.

I think this is where the movie will fail. He has said he waited for technology to get up to speed. However, most theaters haven't. This will be a movie that I travel a bit to see. However, the general public will not. This whole thing is so interesting. I really don't think it will work. No matter how good the movie is I don't see it working. Not on the general public. I will be happy and you will be happy if it's good but I just don't see the hook in the general publics mouth. And that means less movies like this. I hope Im wrong.

Even if they cant see it in 3D imax there is still some new stuff people will get to see like the enhancements in performance capture. But since there arent enough Imax theaters or reason to draw large crowds to them is because there isnt much worthy material yet. Maybe with Avatar and the Hobbit and other future 3D projects it will become more popular. At least they mentioned playing a 3 month run in Imax, possibly longer.

relax, people.

sam worthington:
"It's interesting that he's released that trailer, that Jim's gone and done that, and the next day he's releasing it on IMAX. From one extreme to the other - we get criticism and then we get rave reviews. That's obviously going to get people to think and go, 'Damn right, I'm going to see this at the cinema.' That's what Jim's always said to me, that he wanted to bring people back to the movies, and he's a smart enough man to be that tactical."

reactions from those who saw avatar in 3D:
Jon Favreau: "I think it's the future"

Steven Soderbergh: “I’ve seen some stuff and holy ^^^^. It's the craziest ^^^^ ever."

Amy Pascal: "Avatar is going to change the way you consume entertainment"

Time Magazine: "I couldn't tell what was real and what was animated--even knowing that the 9-ft.-tall blue, dappled dude couldn't possibly be real. The scenes were so startling and absorbing that the following morning, I had the peculiar sensation of wanting to return there, as if Pandora were real."

and no, not every opinion is valid. there's such a thing as an informed opinion and then there are just people talking out of their a-hole.

let's go back a little... everyone in the world KNEW that titanic would FAIL. box office experts thought it could bankrupt a studio. a guy known for making action/sci-fi is making a $200 mil period romance??? how many of those made huge bank? and with no big stars, with a story that everyone in the world has known of, and of which many many movies has been made previously???

now when people talk about titanic, guess which version they meant? with avatar, cameron is back to the genre he knows best. it has sci-fi, fantasy/speculative science(pandora moon is real), love story, groundbreaking fx, epic scale actions, and 12 years pent up hype. the risk of failure with avatar is much much less than with titanic.

Standing ovation :clap:clap:clap

It would be so awesome and long overdue to have a truly amazing experience at the movie theater. I hope this is it.

But I don't want expectation or hype to cripple it for me. I've never seen anything that was mega-hyped ever live up to my expectation. So I'm trying to keep an even-keel about this until I see it.

I have never seen a 3D movie at the cinema. My local cinema ( The Rotunda in Kingston, Surrey) has played all the recent 3D films though using the polarised glasses method. Is this how Avatar is viewed in 3D or is it different. If not can it be viewed that way and how does the polarised method compare to the Avatar method?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I know most people don't have access to an IMAX 3D theater. But don't most of us at least have ONE movie theater in their area that has a 3D upgrade??
I've got 3 theatres in my crappy little city capable of it.
I thought it already was the mainstream lol
Once I saw my first movie in digital 3D with the polarized glasses, I refuse to see anything but the 3D version.
So far I've seen:
My Bloody Valentine
Monsters vs Aliens
UP
Coraline
Ice Age 3
and I think 1 or 2 more.

Upcoming viewings:
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs (with the kids)
Avatar
Christmas Carol
Toy Story 3
Alice in Wonderland.
etc

Recently I was passing a theater near my office in NYC and they advertised Transformers 2 (I think) in Imax. I thought it was odd since I wasn't aware of there being an Imax theater in there and you'd think they would advertise the hell out of that.

Funnily enough I read a story recently about "fake Imax" - theaters that advertise Imax screens but in actuality they are much, much smaller than true Imax screens. The theater by my job was on the list of fakes.

My love of film has more to do with story and technique than splashy presentation but I thought that was good to know. Imax cheaters - be warned! :lol

I'd like a theater that advertised Cell Phone and Baby Free Presentation. I feel like every movie I go to is Cry Max. (drum roll)

The videogame trailer gave us as much depth about the movie as the preview did. Butterflies taking out hovercrafts.

Thats all this movie seems to be about, cgi. Compairing Titanic to Avatar is like compairing a steak to a apple. You really think your GF is gonna wanna see a love story about a blue cat human thing, while battling marines and their mechs?

My personal opinion I think many women in general will yes. And why not? CGI is just another medium to present a story. Who are we to say what another life form from a distant galaxy should look like or could look like. You either like it or you don't. Maybe more will be presented to change your mind but as far as your description of the story and the characters, it sounds like your mind is already made up.

Yep your wrong. You also apparently like to pick and choose what you quote. I already made it clear that the only theater that does 3D in my area is in the hood. :rotfl So yeah rich people don't go there. So if they have to see this in a regular theater I feel that they won't get it.
