So it has been confirmed-Statues, Maquettes, Dioramas, Life Size Busts!!! I'm gonna go broke!

Although it's my most anticipated movie of the year, I think Avatar is too obscure and too genre-specific (Sci-Fi/Fantasy) to draw a large crowd, and thus, large sales. I don't see it reaching 700 million, much less 700 billion.

Sooo....Star Wars movies didn't draw large crowds, was not Sci-fi Fantasy and didn't draw large sales? lol
If those nerd fests can do it, I'm sure a movie like this will.
I know I'm pumped for something new and cool to check out.
And yes I am a Star Wars and sci-fan as well, so I'm not knocking the fellow Star Wars geeks out there lol

Right on! Am I wrong in thinking every movie is genre specific? Isn't Titanic a romantic/drama?

I'm not saying that Sci-Fi movies can't draw large scales, but what I am saying is that Sci-Fi movies don't always appeal to the masses. This isn't always the case, but with a little over two months to get the word out, I just don't see this being the big hit some are expecting it to be. If it is a big seller, then great! But I don't predict it will be breaking records.

We shall see who is correct very soon grasshopper

Wrongo, Titanic pulled in 1.8 billion worldwide. Sorry but thanks for playing our game...lol j/k
Titanic made 600 million in the US. I imagine that is where he got the number.
I know there will be rebuttle on this like there always is but once again lets just wait and see and reserve some judgement till the next trailer comes out which should be much better. Cameron and Landau have both said that trailer was thrown together with scraps.
I hate this argument for people who are not as excited about the film. You have seen the same amount of footage they have and are making judgments too. Yours are just favorable. You can't say with certainty that this will kick ass from the few scraps you have seen, just like people can't say it will suck from the few scraps they have seen.

I pretty much agree. I think this will do 100 million to 200 million easily in the US, but I don't think it will do much more. Worldwide I have no idea. Mama Mia is the highest grossing film of all time in the UK, so who knows what overseas business will be like.:lol:lol:lol

I'm gonna guess when November hits there will be a flourish of info, advertizing tie-ins, maybe new trailer, tv commercials.
Unless they just want the movie to go by word of mouth and have people come out say - wow, that was so cool to watch in 3D on a big screen. You gotta check it out.
Who knows!

Well the Avatar day wasn't too bad and I have been privied to some extra snippets that I cannot talk about so I do have a bit of insight I cannot discuss right now beyond the average Avatard.

Maybe I will just stop throwing info in here for you guys. If your interested you can find it out when its made widely known or you do the research but it seems as though its mostly harsh criticism in here and I simply wanted to create a thread for those interested and looking forward to the movie to share new snippets here and there. Not come across as a biased super fan. But admittedly its hard when you have seen what I have. Needless to say the tone of this thread will change in a month or so I predict.

I tire of the same arguments and they are silly. I'm not making anything off promoting this film, Ive just seen enough to know its special. But as of right now with the material out there there is not enough for people to make an informed opinion. If any of you want me to continue to update I will, just let me know. What I can anyways. Otherwise I don't want to waste the skeptics time.

If you can't tell us what you know that we (the general public) does not, then at least enlighten us how you got your info?

And im guessing that the extra things that you "know" has nothing to do with seeing more than everyone else. So wouldn't that make your point moot? Youre still judging the film based on the trailers and Avatar day, which a lot of others are as well.

Why get so bent out of shape? Plenty of people appreciate the updates, just don't get so upset over the people that don't. I am really looking forward to Avatar, but I am not going to get upset if other people aren't. I stood in line over 4 hours at comicon so I could see Cameron and the footage. I think the big problem for a lot of people is the hype. Cameron and everyone else involved is saying how revolutionary this film is going to be. It reminds me of the hype from The Matrix Reloaded. You yourself say that there is not enough material out there to make an informed opinion. So people saying it will be amazing need to settle down, just like the people who are saying it will suck need to settle down. When it is released we will find out. Trailers mean nothing. I have seen plenty of badass trailers for ^^^^ty movies and plenty of ^^^^ty trailers for badass movies.

Bannister Shut the ^^^^ up dude!!!!!! you know nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:monkey4:monkey4:monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

I have seen more Avatar footage than you. I was at Comicon. I was in the same room as James Cameron. I had the privilege of breathing the same air as him. Unlike you who at the time was probably at some random Tonner booth shouting papo at the top of your lungs.:lol:lol:lol

you heard about that eh:D

I can't discuss it other than to say I recently went to Texas Instruments DLP campus and was treated to a special presentation. And Bannister I'm not getting bent out of shape because some people are not hyped over the little to see out there. Take Pitu's advice:rotfl

Lets get this back on topic. Avatar updates and general Avatar discussion. Until then we can keep the bashing and the praise to a minimum until there is more to make an informed decision on.

If anyone wants more info on Avatar go to marketsaw.com

And Bannister, get your head out of the cryogenic chamber already. If you watch Fringe you know your cryo head is doomed. Their gonna hijack the truck and look for their boss and yours will get tossed out to thaw:lol

Don't get your panties in a wad, lightwave. I'm very excited about Avatar, I just do not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation. ;)
