YO! I'm not sure if u guys already mentioned this on this very....very long thread.....but this Avatar Theme is LAME:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/-SKcUQIAs_c&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/-SKcUQIAs_c&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

DEFINITELY A THUMBS DOWN!

videos off the web. I listed to the song though and I kind of like it. Its not great but I wouldn't say it sucked. I think Cameron will have put some thought into the ending theme and it must end in either a heartwarming way or sad way to have this song.

avatar was just screened for golden globe voters:

https://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-1...sts/golden-globes-ready-to-go-gaga-for-avatar

still have doubt?

"In fact, it's now very likely to be nominated in both the Best Picture - Drama and Best Director categories when the Golden Globe nominations are announced next Tuesday. This was almost unthinkable a week ago and may push expected Globe nominees such as "The Hurt Locker" or "An Education" out of the Best Picture - Drama race."

Interesting...I will be very surprised if this film knocks out the hurt Locker or An Education from a Best Picture-Drama nod. Sure I have not seen it yet, but the Hurt Locker was insanely good and An Education was surprisingly good as well.

i read an interview with horner(cant locate it now) where he said jim originally wanted a score to run over the end credit, but horner convinced him that the audience should leave the film on a high emotional note, and that a song would do that, while a score cannot make the audience stay in their seats.

Well unofficial leaked reviews are starting to trickle in. I think the general consensus (and this could change as more reviews are posted) is that Avatar has amazing effects, but a relatively simple story. Can't say that I'm shocked, as some of us hypothesized this a while back.

Nine more days, and we can see for ourselves.

FROM AMZ!!!

''Apparently a well respected Russian film critic by the name of Roman Volobuev who was skeptical about the film saw it at the Moscow prescreening and was impressed.''

Rough Translations:

Quote:

The movie on letter A, like we could guess, isn't movie of future, but postcard from the past - kinda "Dance with wolves" meeting familiar by "Aliens" concept "movie about Vietnam in space" (also nowadays it's not Vietnam but Iraq, more similarity because of mineral resources). Can't tell details because of silly embargo, but good news that director Cameron didn't turn into Lucas (Roman doesn't like new SW, also as I) and whats good he had 15 years ago nowhere disappear: only one bad thing after two and half hours is credit song. And Steven Lang is now officially coolest dude in the world.

And BTW I understand why cameron's blue aliens looks very similar to minimoys (reference to Besson movie "Arthur et les Minimoys"). Because they both divers and it seems something similar happened with their heads on the depth (it's sorta joke)."

So this guy was gushing over the movie but wasnt into the end credit song

You know no matter what that there will be MANY that absolutely love this flick, then there are always going to be those critics that are either never happy or bash on it because they dont want it to win or its not up there alley with preconceived notions. Some critics I agree with but unless the score on rotten tomatoes or the like is like 40% percent or something-I tend not to listen to a word they say when it comes to what I see.

Visually remarkable and diet story is what I was/am expecting, though I have been surprised at reading about all the flora and fauna that Cameron categorised, etc; there might just be some depth there after all.

Just from this trailer alone I would want to own the amp suit. There is a lot more slated for release for avatar like premium formats, maquettes, and dioramas. The AMP may very well THE avatar collectible. At least for now. At 500 pieces with millions going to see this film-I think its a pretty safe investment.

Watch this trailer that is shown on UFC fights now displaying the action from the film- a couple quick new scenes for those that dont want any spoilers. I have been staying away from spoilers but this one is worth watching to get pumped up in my opinion trying to appeal to the male action demographic-notice no mention of titanic.

TV SPOT #17 (Yep, thats right- 17!!!)

Many of you may already know about this limited sideshow collectible up for preorder now-but for those that might not....

Can't wait to see all the haterade that's gonna be pour on this thread next week! :monkey5

…so let start with a positive experience so far. :D

First of all I’m so glad I have the AMP suit on pre-order. :banana

I saw 32 min of Avatar in 3D today and all I can say is it was just mind blowing and amazingly beautiful to watch. :google

I saw 3 x 10min from different parts of the film. I have seen 3D stuff from this before, but that was nothing compare to this.
The Jungle, the Na’vi’s, the Creatures etc. …it’s all looks stunning and life like. I can’t wait to see the whole film. :joy

I liked the way they handle the 3D in this. In the slow parts it was less depth, but in the Jungle they really expand it with all the plants and you hear and see the insects flying around etc.

…and it’s the first time I’ve heard the Na’vi’s language. :inlove

I new it before, but this film really needs to be seen in 3D :lecture

:D

There's always haters but I think the overwhelming majority will be positive. I have heard that some dont really like the Leona Lewis song at the end but I like it.

Reviews will be coming out soon. And of course you can all look forward to mine ;-)

I think at this point I'm going to stop watching clips. I know the movie is 2 hours and 42 minutes long but I almost feel like I've seen it already with all the clips online.

Yeah that's why i've tried to stay away from anything with footage spoils it way too much.

Yeah if the movie comes through and i had the dosh i would have grabbed an AMP but i will definitely look at picking up a Na'vi PF or Maq.

Man that song is gross, sounds like Cameron is pulling a half assed version of Celine Dion this time around.Should have went with Enya, not this crappy office music.

Marketsaw did post some incredible stuff today. I only watch like a minute of the B- roll #1 and saw WAY more than I wanted and it was just behind the scenes stuff. Looks like that Colonel Quaritch fellow is going to be one tough MF

Some critics already calling his character iconic with no precedent.

Oh yeah- Pandorapedia is finally up

Interview with Cameron about negative buzz

You've heard some of the buzz surrounding filmmaker James Cameron's upcoming 3-D sci-fi epic movie Avatar? Well, Cameron has a message for the haters: You ain't seen nothing yet.

Coming up for air after "four and a half years of intense work," Cameron insists in an exclusive interview that he "consciously made a decision not to read any article or news breaks about Oscar buzz" while he labored to finish the film and also admits that he's been "well aware" of some of the negative fan buzz surrounding the project, based on screenings of early footage and trailers.

"I know there's been a lot of talk and speculation about it, but it's kind of like the generic Oscar buzz out there—it's pretty ridiculous when people haven't even see the movie," he says, addressing the issue. "All anyone has seen is the 25 minutes of various scenes we showed at Comic-Con—and that's not the movie! How can fans judge it by that?"

The director is quick to defend Avatar, which is set on the planet Pandora and features the Na'vi—tall, blue-skinned aliens—as well as human-engineered "avatars" and plenty of high-tech futuristic toys.

"I set out to make a film that's like the stuff that played on the projection screen of my mind when I was a teenager, informed by science fiction," Cameron says. "And I wanted to do original stuff, all those creatures and landscapes and plants and animals that I'd been drawing and noodling out over some 20 years. And fans really love this kind of depth and detail, so when I began Avatar I really put a lot of energy and focus into a sense of completeness in detail of the world, for that very reason."

If fans are "disappointed" with the film's blue alien race, Cameron stresses that "I wasn't going for the alien. I wasn't going for the ugly and strange. I was going for something that's an expression of beautiful human movement in the film. They symbolize the best of us in the way the film works subconsciously, which I feel is aspirational. What they really are is a heightened sense of ourselves and what we could and should be."

Not all the buzz has been negative: The only public screening of the film so far, to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in Los Angeles this week, generated enough enthusiasm that the movie's now being buzzed as a Golden Globe nominee, HitFix reports.

And if you really like it, Cameron promises more from the universe of Avatar. It "is not true science fiction in the sense of saying, 'This is what contact with an alien species would be like.' It's not about that at all. It's about how we've lost contact with ourselves in a natural state. So if we fail, it all ends there, but if we are successful then we'll make more films, and that world will continue to flesh itself out and be a place that fans can go to."

Cameron insists that the mix of sky-high expectations and negative fan buzz isn't freaking him out. "No, it's good, as we had to sell a movie that wasn't a sequel or remake or part of a franchise or based on a best-seller," he says. "It had no brand awareness, and I was more worried about people not even knowing about the film than them kind of arguing about it or having high expectations or having those dashed."

As you might expect, the director who once called himself "the king of the world" says he's "very confident" that once "even hard-core sci-fi fans see the whole movie, they'll get it, because the film will speak for itself. If I can just get 'em in the damn theater, the film will act on them in the way it's supposed to, in terms of taking them on an amazing journey and giving them this rich emotional experience. And it's not really like any other film, and I think that's its greatest asset—and its greatest deficit. You can't compare it to something else."

Avatar opens Dec. 18. Look for more Avatar coverage soon from the press day in London.
