I guess I gotta be the one to come in here and poop in somebody's Cheerios.

I didn't get this "epic, revolutionary, OMG this will change movies FOREVER" feel from this one. I think the 3D hurt the movie more than it helped. Maybe it's because I usually wear regular glasses when I go to the movies, but I thought it looked blurry. I should probably watch it in 2D before I write it off. Personally, I go for story over graphics, and I've seen this story before. I was never excited about seeing this movie so that probably contributed to my general indifference about it. But I paid $18 to see it in IMAX 3D, and it should've blown my skirt up, but it didn't.

I thought my days of having an inter-species crush on an animated character were over. Oh well at least its the proper gender this time. :lol :love

You're not the first to poop in the proverbial Cheerios.

As for your dislike of the 3D, I think you should read this article:

I agree, it was hard to see Jake in there sometimes. Weaver's one was insane! It almost made her attractive. LOL!

Weaver's Avatar was the easily the weakest for me, the CG was not good at all; I don't quite understand what happened there? :dunno My wife agreed that she didn't have nearly the same level of realism that Sully or the native Na'vi had.

I don't feel the same way. For me, Weaver and her Avatar was a special case. Weaver (and by extension, her character) isn't as young as the other cast members, so it was jarring to see her Avatar as so much younger.

What's odd is that I thought her Avatar looked just as realistic as Jake and Norm during the crop field scene where she first made her appearance.

Maybe it's her nose, or even the age issue (I hadn't considered that); but something doesn't click as well for me. :dunno :huh :dunno

It was blurry for me at times and I don't wear glasses. The issue was some of the action was taking place too close to the camera with very quick cuts that my eyes couldn't focus fast enough to register what was speeding around in front of me.
I think directors who use this 3-D tech should take a page from Asian cinema and have the action take place further away from the camera and use much longer takes. It'll also alleviate some of the motion sickness some people might be having as a result.

That character design actually looks better then the others i have seen from this movie, i don't like their fat assed noses.

Fair point, but my issue was that it is different enough to where it doesn't fit and actually detracts from the film.

Detracts from the film...LMAO

THEY ARE FRIGGIN ALIENS, who gives a poop if they don't have BRAD PITT like noses.

The hysterical part is all the criticisms are stretched so thin they are starting to break.

Ok ....

But aside from your end-all, be-all opinion; I like consistency in creature design. If they are a race of aliens, monkeys or humans, there should be a continuity to their overall appearance; it is as simple as that. I didn't say it ruined the film, but it was something that I immediately noticed and did take away some from the overall visual impact of the film.

*you may now resume your position firmly on Cameron's teet.* :wave

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl DID you not see the compositing of first the avatar body in the water tank and second when Neytiri has Jake in her hands!!!!! Those too scenes alone were 10 times better than the compositing on gollum. am i saying gollum sucks.. Nope Just that weta stepped up there game for this movie and the Effects are better than LOTR.

Apparently there is a disconnect in the understanding of what I'm trying to say. I'm contrasting a CGI character with a real physical world background (outdoors) and a CGI character within a CGI environment (minus physical environment players). The CGI on CGI sometimes blends too much causing a suspension of belief (Star Wars PT is a case in point). This is a total scope, not just a character scope.

I have no idea why she has a smaller nose then the rest of them, i have yet to see the movie.Could it be that she choose her "Avatar" to look this way?, are the humans in this movie not pre-programing how they will look before entering this world as a Na'vi?, it just makes her look like she evolved a little differently then the others.

Well considering the Avatars are created with human DNA then there would have been some differences. Look at Jack Sully...he has human hands (four fingers and a thumb) while the native Navi have 3 longer fingers and a longer thumb. So, it would make sense that the engineered Avatars will have some physical differences between Pandora's actual inhabitants. At least that's what my guess would be.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

I just rewatched SSC's Avatar license announcement vid from way back in June. They plan to make Premium Formats, Maquettes, dioramas, and 1:1 scale busts. I hope they follow through!

I want to see it again.... Might go tomorrow. I need to see this in 3D.

Yes, you MUST see this film in 3D. So many scenes where you literally feel a part of the action. Jake's arrival to Pandora, his first encounter with that carnivorous beast in the forest, the final showdown between him and the Colonel. Do not miss out on catching this all in spectacular 3D. Its definitely reassuring to know that its still a groundbreaking experience even in 2D though. :duff

Where can I find prints like this?

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

When I was skeptical about the movie, I wasn't sure I'd care about the porducts from Sideshow's Avatar license. Still don't need an AMP suit, but I loved the movie and Na'vi so much that this has become my most anticipated line from both Sideshow and Hot Toys for 2010. The SDCC booth is going to be insane with Avatar goodness, isn't it?

Agreed. I'm so glad that SSC didn't pursue the 1/6 rights on this one. We should get the best possible products in all scales now. Can't wait to see a "Jake vs. the Colonel's AMP Suit" diorama!
