The Amp SUit is alot of $$$ but its made by stan winstons comany LEgacy FX an they did the Real amp suit in avatar. I dont think its made of plastic probly some kind of Metal its pretty heavy i think.

This doesnt look like metal to me....this looks like plastic...$1200 plastic.

yeah, that plus i think in order to better capture weaver's likeness, they minimised the broadening of her avatar's nose. weaver's pinched nose is one of her more distinctive, recognizable features.

Ok ....

But aside from your end-all, be-all opinion; I like consistency in creature design. If they are a race of aliens, monkeys or humans, there should be a continuity to their overall appearance; it is as simple as that. I didn't say it ruined the film, but it was something that I immediately noticed and did take away some from the overall visual impact of the film.

*you may now resume your position firmly on Cameron's teet.* :wave

Yeh,like there's consistency in the human race. We all look alike, don't we?
Seriously, how stupid are some these comments?

That character design actually looks better then the others i have seen from this movie, i don't like their fat assed noses.

I think the broad nose fits in well with the idea that the Navi are a group of cat-like people.

It's sort of like the nose of a tiger.. big and broad.

If he had gone for small noses they'll end up looking like martians or your typical alien-man in everyday popculture.

True, i think what bothers me is they have elephant/anteater snouts..cat-like noses would have looked cooler but, would lose points for unoriginality.

Oh and f'ing excellent, its Transformers 2 all over again in this link below.:duh:duh:duh

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

it's not that heavy, i'd imagine the base makes up most of the weight.

if it was all metal, then i'd change my tune, but for me, molded plastic doesn't warrant the price tag.

Is the POWERLOADER Diorama polystone?

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

I'm glad Cameron won the Oscar for TITANIC, even though I've thought for years that it is his weakest film story wise, but if Cameron wins the Oscar for AVATAR, I will cry tears of joy. This is what science fiction film making and story telling is all about. Avatar's story is nothing new. Yet that's what makes it so damn special; it is timeless, it is classic and will be told again and again. Cameron has now added his genius and wisdom to it. That is what is so remarkable. AVATAR is the film we wanted George Lucas to make when he did the prequels. That never materialized. We wanted to love the Matrix sequels but were left cold. It's interesting that at the beginning of this decade we saw Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy which defined what this generation's definition of the word epic would be. And here at the end of the decade, Cameron reinvents the definition of the word epic in one, massive remarkable masterstroke. As someone said in the row behind me last night, "I don't mind if it takes Cameron another 12 years to make something like this. I will go see it."

woohoow, easy down!

I don't know if it's because of all the hype around this movie that some people lost perspective and some objective stand of view, but storywise, the film was very mediocre and nothing in comparison with the original Star Wars sci fi trilogy or even with Camerons previous work for that matter!
Fortunately it's not at the same level as Transformers 2 or 2012 with it's childish and o so predictable dialogues in it.

Technically, it lived up to the hype and beyond, because never has there been something made like this.
So for all the worshipping of the technical achievements this movie has done, I can only concur.

But storywise, don't give the movie that much credit, it certainly isn't at the same level as the technical aspects of the film.

I did found something here:
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3932
it's about extra scenes that will be included in the blu ray, but dunno if it will be added to the film, thus being a directs cut or something like that, wich I think can only improve the film...
And some talk about 3D blu rays

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

After reading just about everyone's critique, i still have yet to hear anything bad about the film.

going to see it tonight for the 2nd time @ 7:eek:o PM IMAX.

I will watch closely and see if the story is really that weak, which i don't think it is.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

the story's only as weak as the original star wars was... nothing massively original, but with it's own spin on things. Exactly the same.

It's entertaining though, and that's the important part, not whether it's a familiar tale or not

I can't wait to go back and see it again.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

I agree with many in that the visuals were so immersive and groundbreaking that a more complex plot could have actually been counterproductive.

Like Star Wars before it, this was Cameron's take on the classic Hero Journey in a way we've never seen before. And it was well worth the wait.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

but with it's own spin on things.

I can't wait to go back and see it again.

his own spin of things is what made it great.

He's a great storyteller, and no matter how simple the plot was, he had me involved in the story and caring about ALL the NA'VI people/aliens.

Hey...does anybody know if they are giving Avatar in LA with the D-Boxx seats? I wanted to get my friends some tickets to go see it as a X-mas present....but I wanna see if it's available with those seats?!?!?

I think a lot of folks have generally lost the ability to just go to a movie and appreciate the escape for what it really is. Rather most spend time looking for things to complain about. Avatar was a great escapist Summer Blockbuster, put in the winter line up. I for one loved the nearly three hours of entertainment for what it was....Entertainment.
