The devastation is beyond belief. I know there have been a lot of other natural disasters over the past few years, but I don't think I've seen anything like this since Katrina.

Us here in Hawaii were blessed again, just like 13 months ago when the earthquake hit Chile, we had no damage. I heard the quake cracked 150 miles down the earth core. Prayers to all affected.

I hope you're right Deckard. I imagine communications must be a mess.

I wish I spoke the Japanese so I could follow events more closely. I've been on BBC all day.

Watch the skyscrapers sway...scary!

Just a terrible event for Japan and the world. Praying for all the lost souls and for those left behind tonight. I pray that better days will come soon.

God Bless

Thoughts and prayers to everyone who is or might be affected by this.

Thankfully Japan uses a strict building enforcement code (like the U.S.). If not, all of those would be in rubble.

Santa Cruz out here in the West got hit up, and sure enough when people heard about the waves instead of getting to safety some wanted to watch. So far 3 people have been reported missing after being dragged out to sea from waves that snatched them.

Living in So Cal you tend to get very nonchalant about earthquakes but then you see something like this and you remember that even though we've been through some crazy ones we really haven't seen anything.

Hope those numbers on the missing are overblown and that Japan can get back on it feet relatively soon.

What weirded me out was, this happend on the day Battle: LA came out....

Not that the movie will be any good....but just seemed weird to me.

Yup I've heard that too, and feel zero emotion for those people. They are idiots, plain and simple.

:exactly:

Just saw on HLJ's site their office and warehouse are messed up by the quake and they are suspending their business during repair. Hope all that are affected by the disaster will recover soon.

A friend of mine has some family & freinds in Japan and luckily they are all ok. I saw one video of the quake and it just went on and on and on and on... very scarey.

The sad thing is that if those people die or are injured I bet they (or the family members) will sue the state for not warning them not to go in the water... and whats even sader is that they will probably win.

BBC News say they have vented radioactive steam from the F ukushima-Daiichi nuclear reactor. They have (called for) an evacuated area 10 miles around the plant. BBC just quoted a french news agency saying radiation 1000 times normal around plant.

Edit: The Kyodo news agency is now citing a safety panel as saying that the radiation level inside one of the reactors at the F ukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant is 1,000 times higher than normal.
