But that's not interesting....not entertaining.
A big ass fault goes through Missouri. If that ____ goes I'm screwed and I live several hours away from it.
From what I have seen it was in the mid 7s the one in japan was 10 times worse. You and me both brother. And with all the non earthquake proof buildings, homes and other structures from New Madrid going out through the boothill and all directions up to St. Louis, the destruction would be beyond belief. You do realize that during the early 1800s, the New Madrid fault suffered a massive earthquake probably on scale with what happened in Japan yesterday because it caused the Mississippi River to change direction. Yes, that's right. Change direction from North to South to South to North. If that happens again, wow.
Some news reports are saying that it might have something to do w/ the moon being close to the Earth this time of year they call it the "Super Moon" or something on that wording.

It ranged from 7.2-8.4 and it was 4 separate quakes from December 1811 to Feb 1812, made the Mississippi River flow backwards, and was felt as far as Maine. The one in Japan was stronger but I do think if something similar to what did happen would be equally as bad for this area because most places here aren't prepared.
Well, I don't think anyone can actually be prepared for an 8.9
Oh yeah I know all about it. Learned about it in school and even had a couple of earthquake drills as a kid. I agree if we got something close to what we had in the 1800's or even in Japan there would be a big loss of life because we're not ready here.

That's what is sad... it's not just one person.
Bunch of idiots who seemed to have forgotten we dropped 2 atomic bombs on Japan in retaliation.
Yeah, its about to get really bad if that goes down. Thats why those plants as a fuel source scare me honestly.
It does me too. I live 50 miles from one. I've always hated the whole idea of them.
My brother who is trained in this stuff, has told me all sorts of horror stories.
From what I've seen I think you're right Tsunami is the biggest issue. Those things are flat out nasty.
You're going to see that kind of thing on messages boards and article comments section. Believe me, it can get me pretty riled as well, but these people are trolls usually.
