He shot himself in the chest, which I assume is so they can study his brain as part of the ongoing NFL damage studies.

Either way, that's awful.

Really? Was that part of it that he wanted his brain researched? Wow. I thought the shot in the chest was sketchy but I guess if that is what he wanted it makes more sense...

That's what Dave Duerson of the Bears did. Doctors found his brain had deteriorated due to the number of head blows he had taken during his career.

You begin to wonder about the future of this league as well as MMA.

Well as of now nothing official has come out, like a note he left behind, or anything. But like SixMillion, there has already been a precedent set by Duerson. And that fact that this isn't the first is sad.

Jeez - he's the eight member of the '94 Chargers to die already.

Six months ago we noted that linebacker Lew Bush had died of an apparent heart attack, only six days after his 42nd birthday, making him, at the time, the seventh member of that team to die. Defensive lineman Shawn Lee died last year of a heart attack at 44. Defensive lineman Chris Mims died in 2008 of complications from having an enlarged heart at age 38. Offensive lineman Curtis Whitley died in 2008 of a drug overdose at age 39. Linebacker Doug Miller died in 1998 after he was struck by lightning, at age 28. Running back Rodney Culver died in 1996 in the crash of ValuJet Flight 592, at age 26. Linebacker David Griggs died in 1995 in a car accident at age 28.

woah where did this come from? what was wrong with him, depressed?

There's been quite a bit of speculation that he was suffering from depression. He did have the incident back in October of '10 where he drove his jeep off a cliff after a domestic issue. Probably the first suicide attempt.:ohbfrank:
