Nah his standards aren't high. His taste just varies but he lost enjoyment of movies so any movie that is modern angers him greatly. Just takes alot to please the man

You disagree with my point, but then agree with it at the end :lol

He isn't wrong though. Modern cinema is terrible. My catalog of films I still watch go from the 80s through around the mid 2000s. Nothing will probably change that.

The last great year for movies for me was 2008, I got Rambo 4, X-Files (not so great but as a fan just great to get a new story), Iron Man, Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk.

Nowadays, it's a good year if 3 movies excite me, 2017 was pretty good though, Guardians 2, Pirates 5 and Kong Skull Island.

Rambo is truly underrated. Unapologetic violence needs to make a comeback. As strange as it sounded, I hate were not getting that Rambo vs Predator film.

Rambo went underrated I feel because of Stallone's age and I think today's movie goers are kinda over the action guys, even though you have guys like The Rock and Vin Diesel now, their films aren't like Stallone or Schwarzenegger's in the 80s, except The Rock's upcoming skyscraper movie which looks heavily derived from Die Hard 1.

I really, cannot stomach the Rock. I never understood the draw he gets. And given how much of a **** head he acted when he wrassled, I just see this good guy routine of his as bull ****.

I'm not crazy about him, he has his moments, but neither he nor Vin Diesel carry the screen presence that guys like Stallone and Schwarzenegger and Willis did, Statham's probably the most active modern action guy along those lines.

These trailers are kinda badly made
Yep, the pacing is all weird and it's like they ran out of stuff to show lol, maybe they're trying their best to keep scenes from the final act a secret.

Yeah Diesel has completely petered out.

I liked Statham's early career in the Transporter days, but you couldn't pay me to watch his schlock now.

Arnold and Sly will always be the kings of the genre.

I don't think Willis is in the same league with them given aside from the Die Hards, he was in some serious dog ****. They talk about Tarantino saving Travolta, I think he saved Willis as well.

Not really. I say it takes a lot to please him cause the guy is angry at everything that comes out.

But maybe he watches each movie online. I find his hatred funny tho. Having people praise a movie and have no negative aspects is unreal. I like when people balance the convo out so I’m not complaining about riddick not liking stuff.

But maybe he watches each movie online. If you can’t enjoy movies anymore than why go to the movies anyway lol.

He watches them online mostly. I don't blame him. Anything I'm interested in I do the same thing. Last one I saw in the theater was Deadpool, and given how **** the new one looks I'll be watching from home.

The upside to that is, not risking getting bed bugs from savages.

Yea I changed the editing on my last post. I like that riddick balances the convo. Along with anyone else who has a negative aspect on a movie. Sometimes it’s great to hear what negative aspects one finds in a highly praised movie.

Thats why this forum is good sometimes. It’s not a bunch of people praising one thing but people having multiple views on the subject. I sometimes give riddick crap for his hatred of movies but I don’t really care to much lol

The biggest downfalls are the over reliance on cgi ( you guys nailed it with the overly detailed cgi ) and the way the set pieces are written with absolutely no suspense. The best example is trex vs kids in jeep compared to whatever it was rex vs kids in glass ball. I could watch that scene from JP a million times and still fear for the lives of those kids.

CGI offers almost too much freedom. Comparing Rex vs Jeep to Indominous vs Gyrosphere, with the Rex they were try to do as much with the animatronic as possible and crafted the sequence around how the robot could interact, so you get a sequence where what takes place is simple and then editing steps in to add suspense. When you look at the Indominous sequence, it feels more like the discussion was about what could we do with CGI and then doing it all without thought about how it makes the audience react. They have the gyro bouncing between Indominous and Ankylosauruses because CGI can pull it off but now the audience is trying to soak in what all the dinosaurs are doing, plus the kids, it takes away from what should be the focus which is the lives of the children.

I love CGI when used right, but the freedoms it offers have reshaped filmmaking and not necessarily in a good way. So many classic films and effects were achieved through limitation. JAWS will always stand as one of the best examples, they only had animatronics, it didn’t work well, so they came up with whole ideas to compensate for it which made the final act even more exciting than had the shark been onscreen as much as was probably planned originally.

Over detailed models kill any suspension of disbelief... but if they just could light them properly... plus get the hell away from CGI backgrounds.

There's still Anime ;)

Thank goodness for that but lately there hasn’t been any anime that wow me. I’m watching Tokyo ghoul re and my hero academia right now. When I was younger I feel like there were more options. Lol but I guess I watched all the greats already.
