Initial reaction is that I liked the movie.

The opening scene is the best in the franchise. And finally it rains again!!! :rock

The first act of the movie was my favourite, mainly because I like seeing dinosaurs against a wild backdrop. The eruption scene definitely pulls on the heart strings, seeing all the dinosaurs fall to their deaths (as you see in the trailer). As they leave the island there's a tear-jerker moment, especially if you're a big fan of the original (I can expand on that via spoilers later on if needed).

The second act had some fun moments too and made great use of the animatronic dinosaurs which elevates the scenes over the CGI stuff.

The third act, well it gets political and goes into complete 'new' territory (hinted at in past movies) for a Jurassic movie. I will definitely need to rewatch it to learn to accept as part of this Jurassic universe.

Some of the imagery in the final act is incredible and there's a some really nice touches to Jurassic Park.

Overall I really enjoyed it. Some cool dinosaur scenes throughout although maybe could have done with some more between the second and third act. I enjoyed BDH and Pratt much more in this one.

And lastly there's a post credits scene...

whats the post credit scene

I had to miss the post credits scene because I needed to run into another appointment. I hope it wasn't that essential. :D

Mostly just curious about the suspense /horror aspect. Is that completely gone , like in Jurassic world ?

One of the things I forgot to mention was the score, camera work and overall directing was top notch. There's some good long takes in there as well.

Bayona definitely was the right man here.

There's some fantastic shots in there. Notable mentions:

-Blue falling with the Indoraptor
-Blue's shadow from the car headlights
-Indoraptor against the moon
-Brachiosaurus silhouette in the fire

Yeah I agree here. They were able to create some good tension with the way they filmed some of the scenes.

I'm still not convinced of the third act though. This part fell short for me. Some parts of that third act felt rather cliche. And I can never be sold on the concept of:

weaponized dinosaurs... If 1 Chris Pratt can take down/escape the lot of them, better trained humans with better technology can easily beat them out. Seems like a very expensive and unpredictable investment as a weapon system.

I think a better selling point would be the technology that created the dinosaurs (and that little girl). Cloning and genetic engineering can be used to weaponize something far deadlier (like pathogens).

Weaponized dinosaurs was a poor plot point, and I hated the idea of a multi-national black-market auction.

One more thing, I'm not sure how the end of this will go. They only saved a handful of dinosaurs. Surely they'll still be bound for impending extinction.

Yup. There's also some legit horror movie shots of Dinos in the dark followed slowly moving toward the camera as the lighting reveals their movement.

It probably has the most satisfying bad guy death I've seen in the series.

Rex was like I'm not sharing that **** with you to the Carnotaurus. I think there's a good little rivalry going on there. :rotfl

That was one of the the aspects of JW with Vincent D'Onofrio's character that I couldn't get behind and found eye rolling at times. But here they didn't really beat you over the head with it as much I feel. Maybe there's cliches here but I guess cliches exist for a reason.

I think it was Mills that made a point of saying armies in the past have used elephants in war, Soviets used rats to bomb the Germans, etc. So even though that concept with dinos is kind of silly and out there, I think it's played a bit better here and they don't make it this big plot point like in previous film.

The whole dino auction thing had me worried from the trailers, and while the very idea itself may not always hit home, with the way it ends with the humans falling flat on their faces in death and carnage, oh so satisfying. I guess there's some silly concepts here that get rounded out by some very entertaining scenes? Maybe.

Goldblum, for what little screen time of him there was, had the most logical and important lines in the film that sheds light on man's ignorance.

Resident evil did that already

Mills death scene was a nice throwback to Eddie's death in TLW.

The dino auction will take another viewing to get a true sense of how I feel about it. It was well done and it good seeing the millionaires get their comeuppance. The mansion/ auction thing was just such a different setting for a Jurassic movie.

Nope. It's back. Some good moments.

Your review and that follow up comment sold me even though the trailers didn’t. I wasn’t a big JW fan but of what you said holds true (and the suspense part is important) I think I’ll enjoy this one.

Thanks for sharing!

I do love me some dinosaurs and this franchise so my initial thoughts might clouded by that.

The last act is more haunted mansion than grand scale dinosaur adventure as we've seen before. It was a very different direction for this franchise.

Did you watch many trailer, I’ve been fearing that marketing has given away big moments that would build up suspense or fear.

I watched all the trailers and TV spots so I had a good idea of how the movie would play out. There's some fantastic imagery in the movie that we haven't seen in the trailers.

I wish they hadn't have shown us the T-Rex attacking the Carnotaurus scene however you can see why they did as they wanted to have her as a big part of the marketing campaign.
