One day, soon, there will be no comic book movies guaranteed every summer and Christmas.

This EXACTLY.

This is why I tend to be generous about how good or bad they are. Geek culture is slowly fading from popular masses. People have been saturated by it....and the pendulum is swinging back to the mindless tough loudmouth guy and bleach blond moron motif.

I enjoy almost every Sci Fi and Superhero film we get. For this exact reason....

Except Suicide Squad and Alien Covenant....this were trash and are quickening the death of my favorite genre of films.....

While everyone has been complaining about their comic adaptions, a new Golden Era of Superheroes has come and nearly gone now.

This period will be looked back on fondly. Many of the more aggravated members here will be much more forgiving in 20 years looking back.

Whats replacing it? Like what movies literaly?

I'm giving them until IW. But you're likely right. It seems to have ended after The Winter Soldier, Guardians 1, and Avengers 1 (circa 2012).

2014 to be correct.

However, with WW and Black Panther potentially breaking new ground, I don't think the "golden age" has ended at all. The recent success of R rated Logan and Deadpool has given the genre a sense of freshness. And let's not forget that 2 of the most viewed trailers of all time came out this year and belong to Thor 3 and BP, so that shows that the interest in superhero films is still there, and clearly not " slowly fading from popular masses."

People have been predicting the end of the superhero genre for the last 10 years. :lol

Nothing, since comic book movies can potentially adapt and be influenced by other genres. Sci-Fi films? Comics have that. Westerns? Comics have that. Fantasy? Comics have that too.

I think the next big trend will be crossover movies, but not until the current superhero genre slows down.

Superhero movies are not going anywhere anytime soon. What may happen is this whole shared universe thing might go back to being grounded / contained and less per year.

I don't know about you guys but I'm happy and grateful we got to experience a 10 year shared universe that will end its "chapter" next year, SOME good xmen movies (lol) and one of the best comic book movies trilogy in The Dark Knight. Now of only JL can be awesome that would be the cherry on top.

I agree with Clown.

But i’m now very curious if the black turnout, which no doubt will be huge, will be enough to make BP a box office success story.

I don’t see the general white audience supporting this movie.

I don’t think there are enough Chinese Blacks to make it a hit over there.

Chinese blacks LOL. I think Black panthers only hope to be a success is a strong domestic performance. I guess anywhere between ant man and dr strange will be just fine

SW (PT) wasn't alone 13 years ago either when Harry Potter, LOTR, and Spiderman were dominating the box-office. I think Harry Potter will make a comeback with the original cast coming back to face a new villain.

I mean, it's almost inevitable that JK Rowling will write more books, and those books will become movies.

In a thread about superheroes, no less! Interesting how a topic concerning characters who are the manifestation of our physical ideals and who represent our most virtuous attributes have become a platform for how our misguided conceptions of sexuality and obsession with the physical enable some of our most abhorrent violations.

So true. Also interesting in that this is a film that I expect will have Superman in it. Superman! He is supposedly the embodiment of all that is good and whole. (at least the previous versions, not so much the current portrayal of Supes in the DC verse). I mean there were some good things that have been hinted at in films like MoS, with things that Pa Kent and Jor-El saying to Clark. Pa Kent told Clark that he was sent to earth for a reason, and that he needed to find out what that reason is. And then Jor-El said how Supes would help the human race strive towards ideals.

With these comic to film adaptations, the liberties that are taken are of course, to be expected. The problem arises however, when the core traits of what makes these characters so timeless, and iconic, gets lost in the translation and seemingly forgotten.

Already has, fantastic beasts. it’s pretty great too.

as far as more harry stuff, fat chance. maybe a cursed child flick but that’s far off.

We have seen this cycle before...:.Sci Fi was big in the late 70 early 80's. Then died out in favor of teen comedy, adventure films, then a stint where horror owned the stage, and then the teen scene and then romantic comedies.....

Those phases seemed to last much shorter than what we see now. The really milk each genre to the maximum possible.

My guess is less serious films will be the next phase, they are adding a lot of humor to the comic universe (no pun intended) . I think the response will be a return to teen comedies and teen angst films...just a wild guess

Harry and his friends are coming back. The original cast will be back, new books, merchandise, more theme park attractions, the old fanbase and a new generation will embrace the new films. It's going to be big, BIG, very big. Too much money on the line.
