I don't think Bale would reprise the role if he is not the star and if Nolan is not directing. Bale acting as just one hero out of many under the direction of Brett Ratner is not going to convince him to return to the part.

Bale recently said he'd be up for number 4 if Nolan had a story to tell. He might've been blowing smoke at an interviewer, though ... knowing Nolan is out.

The real question here isn't Bale's availability. The question is how TDKR will end. TDKR has to end open-ended for Bale's Batman to even fit in a JLA movie. Can't reprise the role if Nolan's Bruce Wayne is permanently retired, physically broken, or dead.

If TDKR has an ending conducive to Nolan's Batman continuing ... then the question becomes about Nolan's and Bale's availability, neither of which is very likely.

Leaving him too impared would be a downer way to end the series though. :(

If they put the main focus on the Trinity, he'd be one of three stars, and he still gets to be the mother____ing Batman.

How does Brett Ratner still get to make superhero movies?

X-Men 3...:slap

I think the chances of Christian Bale's Batman appearing in either a fourth Batman movie or a Justice League movie are slim-to-none. His Batman's story was not intended to be in a larger DC Universe -- and, as I understand it, Nolan's story is done. There's a slightly better chance of having the same version of Batman appear with another actor ... like Edward Norton/ Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner. Odds are they'll just re-launch Batman with another actor, and make him sign on to several Batman movies and a Justice League movie at the outset.

The last two guys other than Bale that were rumored to be cast as Bruce Wayne were Armie Hammer in a canceled JLA movie, and Karl Urban in a TV show.

If they set it up for a Batman Beyond type scenario, Nolan could even cripple him permanently and not only would it still work for future Batmans, but if they ever did a Kingdom Come movie (Fanboy dream, I know), it would set Bale up for that as well.

A thousand times yes.

Cinema Blend is reporting that WB is setting up a Green Lantern sequel (within the blurb about JL) so I'm wondering if that secures Reynolds as a piece they don't have to worry about. Who knows if they are looking to set things up in a place where they set up as little as possible we might see Reynolds, Bale and Cavill in this. I guess it depends on how bad they want a JLA film.

They've got Reynolds and Cavill locked up by utilizing sequel contracts and clauses, the question would be Bale, although it completely goes against the reboot.

My money still isn't on Bale in this but who knows, WB seems hard pressed at making this happen sooner than later.

It would but it's been quoted as saying that the new version of Batman would have him amongst heroes. I don't think they are talking about good ol' Terry. WB will utilize Bruce Wayne again.

Anyone hoping for Batman Beyond is simply wishing and nothing more.

From Mark Millar:

A pal of mine is good friends with the new Justice League screenwriter and said his take on the team is incredible. Very real-world and not at all what you might expect. WB has a chequered history with their superhero characters. They’re great with their boy wizards, but less consistent with their DC stable. But my chum said that this could be a thing of beauty and has been in the works for a little while now, not just an avengers knock-off. Best of luck to them. The tidbits I heard sound quite dark and mature, which isn’t what I expected. But word on Gangster Squad is great too so I feel this is in really good hands.

Interesting that if Millar is right (which he has been more wrong than right when it comes to the DC Film Universe) then DC is actually going for a grounded in real world Justice League which would connect more in tone with Nolan's stuff than Campbell's Green Lantern.

Somebody leave that on your doorstep again? :lol

Imagine more movies where boring villains like Lex Luthor are the enemies because the "realistic approach" won't allow for the more fantastical villains that would be worthy of a Justice League movie. Sounds like WB's planning to leave that dirty diaper on every fan's doorstep. :monkey1

I agree with Nam. Keep the Nolan POV in the Batman movies, please. Or if you want, do Swamp Thing or a better Constantine with that approach. Not the freakin' Justice League.

What is strange is the "go-to" for most people's minds was Darkseid for a Justice League film but if it's in the realm of realistic there goes that (probably). I'm starting to think we're going to get Max Lord and the OMACs or something which would delve into each character's identity and loved ones in danger, etc.

In this sequel, will Green Lantern be fighting Sinestro? Or falling in love with him?

I don't know why Darkseid is the go-to guy. Apart from the New gods, he was more a Superman villain than a JLA one in the comics I read.

But then, apart from relative unknowns like Amazo, Starro, and teams of other well-known villains I'm not sure there are enemies primarily known for opposing the Justice League and not more specific JLA members. And of course, an all-powerful, all-evil baddie would be a means for the JLA to need to band together. But still. . .
