I wish Sam (Gruesam) was here to explain it all to you. I'm not good at it, but here's a little taste.

The link actually confirms what I wrote earlier (but don't feel too bad, when comes to understanding good versus bad fats, it has been somewhat of an obsession of mine for almost 25 years ;)). When comparing fats, what is significant is the processing of vegetable fats. Saturated fats, such as lard, are much less harmful than hydrogenated unsaturated fats. This is because the hydrogenation process creates trans-fatty acids (now commonly referred to as trans-fats), and these are some of the most deadly fats known to man. In fact, there have been studies that have conclusively proven that the beginnings of widespread use of vegetable shortenings (which are, essentially, concentrated trans-fats), such as Crisco, in the mid 20th century directly correspond to the time that coronary artery disease began to skyrocket.

But, the fact that lard is less harmful than trans-fats does not really mean it is beneficial. And, oils that are rich in mono-unsaturates (such as olive oil and canola oil) are much better for you than either regular vegetable oil OR lard.

Now, butter, on the other hand, can be a very tasty (and healthy) fat source, when used in moderation.

1200 of those are Ski's. He just doesn't want to admit it.

No it's P!tu watching his own videos. Vain SOB is in love with himself. Admit it P!tu, there isn't a time you don't walk by your reflection, and say, Hi pappy, who's your smear!

STFU Eli.

Eating the double down just once in your life thinking it won't hurt you is liking sleeping with the double down girls and letting them give you a present 4 LIFE!!!!

:lecture :lecture :lecture :lecture :lecture :lecture :lecture :lecture

No it's not.

I care about both, I want to be healthy and also look decent. It's more about living healthy for me though.

Ppl that think otherwise and hate on me because of the way I look can kiss da rings.

Who hates on you because of the way you look? :dunno

Any opposition or negativity you've encountered in here might have something to do with the way you and Eli showed up like a pair of nuns with rulers.

I'm just trying to point out how stupid his argument is I quoted. Same thing with the Supersize Me movie. No one is saying to live on this stuff. Just that if you live a pretty healthy lifestyle by staying active and watching your diet, that having something like the Double Down once in a great while is going to have zero impact on you other then giving you some gastro-intestinal problems for a couple of hours.

I didn't say it was necessarily good for you, but it's better for you than vegetable oil. You're better off using animals fats than that. They are changing things and making some of them without trans fats, but most of the stuff you buy on the shelves still aren't good for you. Though I can't remember, something else that they are either adding to, or doing to the oils and shortenings are just about as bad as trans fats. And of course in the US, they can list 0 trans fats as long as the per serving is less than one. It can be .9 and still be listed as 1.

People used to use lards and animal fats (like bacon grease) all the time before they started with the processed vegetable oil and they were alot healtier.

All I can say is, I try to eat healthy but I still enjoy things from time to time. I try to stick to good carbs, good fats. My family members have lived long lives so hopefully that will happen to me too.

But then I could get hit by a car.....:horror
