I'm guessing you liked SHInT GODZILLA?

Nope, but I did find the final battle pretty good. Nothing memorable about Skull Island for me.

A major problem I have with the movie and my main beef with the human characters is that they never really sell that they're scared or in danger. They seem perfectly comfortable being on an island filled with giant animals and insects. It's like they're visiting Jurassic World.

It was nice to see a Kong movie where he doesn't fall off a building at the end.....

But that's like his trademark move?

I really like how he hits the edge of the building and twirls as he falls :lol

So does he overdose in this one or something?

I don't think I've ever seen King Kong Lives... and after googling it, I never want to. The '76 version was bad enough.

This Kong movie has to be better than Jackson's long and boring remake.

Truthfully, considering the time it was made, no one has ever topped the old 1933 original. It still has the best "Skull Island" (with tons of monsters eating people in trees) and it still has the best Monster in New York sequence (and without any ice skating).

Same.
Although when Hiddleston confronts Sam Jackson about going after the guy who got spit out by the Skullcrawler, there was a little bit of that because they didn't want to die, but it seemed mostly because they didn't want to kill Kong, since he protects the island. There should've been more dread.

Saw this tonight to a pretty sparse crowd in IMAX 3D at 7pm. I thought it was fun. I wasn't going in with much in the way of expectations, though, too. Having great actors playing the human characters helps give them JUST enough likability to care a little bit about who lives and who does not. I thought the movie looked really great as far as cinematography, and the score did have it's moments. I enjoyed the way the monsters on the island were deployed, actually. The island's dangers weren't obvious from the get-go, with it's more dangerous aspects being hidden or obscured. I just had a ton of fun with it. There are sillier moments. Things play out pretty much as you expect. But I actually thought it was a fun monster movie, where you see a team of people assembled and then see how many make it out alive.

But Kong starts smacking choppers out of the air in the first 2-5 minutes they reach the island :lol

Unless you're talking about the WWII flashback scene, in which case yeah I'd have to agree.

I mean after that. lol. Kong, obviously, is very obvious. Obvious giant monkey is obvious. ;) But everything else sort of reveals itself bit by bit.

Oh yea, that scene was decent. There should have been more of that though, instead they hired big name actors to just act cool instead of really selling how dangerous the island is. Also, for an island that has nothing but large insects and animals, I think they should have been on more danger, they really didn't show that many different monsters on that island. A bunch of missed opportunities in my opinion.

I just watched this film last night, man it's quite incredible what they were able to do in 1933. My GF sat down and started watching it towards the end and was like "how did they do that back then?". It's pretty cool that a movie that's 85 years old can still amaze people. I'll be watching the jackson one tonight (which I absolutely love) and Skull island on saturday :yess:

can't wait!

Does anyone have any theories about the stinger?

Are they suggesting Prometheus-style visitation with that last slide of Godzilla fighting Ghidorah?

How do the natives know that eventually [Earth-born] Godzilla will fight space alien Ghidorah?

The cave paintings aren't fortelling, they're record of something witnessed, meaning they've fought before.

Great movie. 9/10.

Good thing they didn't bring him back in a ship or something. Samuel is a little like Dutch in Predator. And one of the soldier choose to stand behind, like that Native Indian in Predator, is weird. Kong saving the woman in murky water, also weird, lol. And of course the decades old samurai sword looks good as new, also weird.

Also, wait for the clip after the credit.

Kong: Skull Island was a lot of fun, though it feels a bit like the only reason it exists is to set up the inevitable Kong vs. Godzilla film. It's more of a standard action picture than Jackson's vastly superior romanticized film, but it succeeds at its aims in being a rousing and action packed monster movie. Speaking of Jackson's film, Skull Island really makes you appreciate how beautifully visualized his film was and how much character they were able to infuse into Kong so effortlessly. Kong in this film feels like a non-entity at times, doing little that is unexpected or unique, but engaging nevertheless.

Just got back. Really enjoyed it. Me and my brother thought it was a fun film. It's not one to take seriously but it's a monster flick and brought the Toho feel too it. Definitely better than Godzilla even though I didn't mind it. Tons of fun if you like monster flicks and Toho monster flicks or Kong in general you'll like this. Really was shocked by John C. Reilly I really liked him in this. Jackson did good as did Goodman. Hiddleson and Larson did there part and the rest were good too. Fun adventure flick with lots of little easter eggs. Stay until the end credits it's worth it. Kong was a beast I like this take on him for sure.

I did like how Kong resembled the 1933 Kong, how he stands up straight. The fur even looked like the fur from O'Brien's puppet.
