They actually were but Kong is King of the jungle.

PJ Kong wasn't much larger than the Trex's either unlike new Kong who had a size advantage over those dumb skulls and he still needed to cheat. :lol

They even had a human help Kong with a 50 cal in new Kong.

Wimp I tell ya.

But But But...... the three v-Rex's could not even break his skin.. He could beat them by himself... Skull Crawler mother is the best!! :lol

I think you are underestimating the size a bit...

The Baby ones he took out without any problems..

The Mother was much bigger... Had Hands it could use to fight with (Unlike T rex) and Had a HUGE Mouth

Besides I would say Kong had a pretty good overall advantage on the T-Rex and it's tiny arms... And the final one was the biggest one.

This is a great Geek out argument :lol

PS - I like t- Rex's better also... Just think Skull Crawler mother was just fine as a foe.

PSS - They are actually called V-Rex not T-Rex.... Geek out!!!!!

Correct about the V Rex, keep forgetting, they even roared different. :lol

Holy crap is that skull thing stupid looking!

Did Kong break a huge romaine lettuce on his head. :lol

Sucks that you did not find as much enjoyment in it as I did Khev...

Well like I said it was a fun experience because of my kids' reactions (though my daughter commented that the guy being carried away by the bird creatures reminded her of Jurassic World.) I love Godzilla too but the only movies that matter to me are the 1954 original and 2014 reboot. I just tend not to care for the campy silly stuff. I know people here hate on the 2014 version but I loved the tone, cinematography, score, and monster fights in that one. Didn't even mind the slow burn to get there.

Skull Island doesn't feel like it's in the same universe as Gareth Edwards' flick. This Kong felt like it'd be more fitting for him to fight the Roland Emmerich Godzilla. I could totally see Matthew Broderick stumbling around this island while Jean Reno's team gets taken out by the Skull Crawlers. Ah well, it is what it is, I was just really getting sucked in with all the artsy photography in the beginning. Loved the approach shots to the island, the super slo-mo overhead shots of the Huey propellors, the music, all that was great.

I was about to agree with you but then I remembered I fell asleep watching the 2014 Godzilla...was it more serious than this?

Absolutely. The 2014 flick was pretty much humorless which is either good or bad depending on what you want from these flicks. I thought it was a good thing.

Had G14 given me the film the trailers promised I would agree that the tone was perfect... This film tried to be JAWS (Garth's words) but without the personality.

As for all the other Godzilla films you dismissed... I will take my toys and go home :lol

You should watch the 1964 Godzilla vs Mothra film. Very serious tone... Godzilla was at his meanest (Best G suit also) and the F/X were top notch. Film took the monsters and the plot seriously also.

The Only reason the New Kong feels like it does not belong in the G14 Universe is because it had a pulse :lol

And lets face it Adrian Brody and Jack Black would be much better friends with Broderick and Reno.... The difference in those four characters and John C Reilly is that Reilly's Jokes made people laugh... The others missed... Every time. I would even argue that because of the goofiness of the action in PJ's film and how he handled the monster that that Kong Universe would be more at home in an Emmerich film... Both monsters were made to be sympathetic and died in a way to pull at the heart strings... Both films had their hero's surviving (unconvincingly) ridiculous situations.... Not to go off but you brought up that abomination of a film :lol

You should watch the Emmerich Godzilla film again... Nobody belongs in that Universe...

G2014 definitely wasn't perfect but there's still a lot that I like about it.

The Good of G14

It was not G98
Godzilla's appearance at the Airport
Monster Battle at the end was good overall... Yet strangely lifeless... I blame the lack of a city with Electricity.. The city just seemed dead. Should have taken place in the day time at least.
First 15 min was pretty intense.
The SF Bridge scene (Best part of film)
Overall look of the film

The Bad of G14
The trailer was so damn misleading and so was Edwards when promoting the film.
Film Focused more on MUTO's then Godzilla... Bad move and Bad monster design.
Cutting away from every monster fight to give us more bland characters
Godzilla lacked Godzilla personality... Both Evil version and Good version...
Godzilla's arms hanging at his side like a strung up Gater.
Every Human character.. Even BC ended up sucking.

I don't hate G14 but it is a chore to sit through from beginning to end. I did it twice in the theaters and once on home video... I have tried since but can't do it.. I always skip to the monster scenes... In that way it's very much like some of the old Godzilla films :lol

WAY MORE SERIOUS... But not in a good way.

Actually you could take the tone of G14 and keep it the same... But damn it, it should not have been so boring.

Garth Edwards kept talking about how he wanted this film to be like JAWS... Have great characters while showing very little of the title monster... Well he succeeded in giving us very little action involving Godzilla... But boy did he fail in giving us great characters. Had he even attempted to give them a little humanity for us to bond and identify with then the film would have been an overall success. Watch JAWS and the characters in there are real people. Humor and character flaws made them feel like real people. G14 had less convincing human characters then the CGI monsters we saw on screen.

I just got back from this and loved it.

Lightly sketched entertaining characters, nicely staged action, energetic pacing, lots of monster action...it really reminded me of watching monster movies as a kid. I felt like I got my money's worth after the first encounter.

I do feel like it's a different reality than the dull 2014 Godzilla but that's a good thing IMO. I look forward to seeing that Godzilla in a movie with some character. Hopefully DC finally does the same thing with Superman.
