Actually, I believe it's over $500 million now.

Godzilla 2014's worldwide gross was $529,076,069 so Kong is right on par with that, sure it's not billion dollar marvel, but the MonsterVerse is having consistent success.

That's all I care, would I be shocked and delighted if one happened to hit the billion mark, of course, but so far, 2 for 2 in my enjoying these films and they're doing well enough to keep the series going, which is all I could ask for, I don't want the MonsterVerse to end any time soon the way it's been going.

They spend $200M to make the movie and then spend another $200M+ on marketing... and walk away with $500M?

If that remains they will start cutting budgets to drive a better profit.

Godzilla had a $160 million budget and sold $520 million and that was good enough. I hear Kong was $180 million budget.

I know, I rounded up... but marketing worldwide these days is often more than that budget, plus bank fees, etc. Then there's the split with talent (not always just A list actors). So making only $500 million, after taking the splits into account, could mean even less profit.

Point was: people don't want to risk near $400M to make $500.

Godzilla and now Kong were "feelers". See where their barometer is. Now they know. Next movie's budget will likely be less than Kong's.

No I think godzilla will have a big budget. I mean people like godzilla more than kong and if you throw giant monsters in people will come.

:lol

Oh no.... I see this sticking for awhile.

You could have called me Bor-Gar I guess.

Anyway, I don't think each monster has a value and the more monsters they throw in the bigger the budget. It just means the same small group will be cheering more often with "membas". :lol

Wouldn't the marketing be considered a business expense that they can write off?
