Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

Does the blue on Spidey's costume look that metallic in person?

To a degree. The blue is so dark that if you see it in a room with a little dimmer lighting, it almost looks like his retro black and red costume. I own this piece. It looks absolutely fantastic. It's the best, most dynamic Spidey statue in this scale. The SSC Com is still my favorite, but not by much.

Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

The SSC Comiquette is great, but if this was 1/4 scale also, I'd get this one over it in a heartbeat. I really love the Kotobukiya 1/6 Marvel line, they're definitely a lot better scultped compared to the 1/4 scale statues from Sideshow. The fact that they're by the same sculptor also helps to keep them consistently great in sculpting quality. They've also greatly upped their game as far as paint job on these statues.

I've enjoyed many of Sosa's sculpts in the Koto line. As to what we may prefer, that will always just boil down to individual taste.

I have to disagree with you when it comes to SSC sculpts and sculptors. Martin Canale alone is reason enough to buy SSC merch. Toss in Andy Bergholtz, Pablo Viggiano, Tim Miller, and Mark Newman, I think SSC has some of the best in the business. That doesn't take anything away from the great work that Erick is doing with Koto. As great as the Spidey sculpt is, I think Magneto is possibly Erick's finest work. I LOVE that piece. It's the best Magneto statue I have ever seen by any company.

Suffice to say that I enjoy these artists work and the companies they work for. They are all great at what they do.

Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

I guess what I really meant was not that Erick's was the best compared to all the other sculptors that work at SS, but that it gives a consistent look across an entire line, whereas with SS marvel lines you have some major hits or misses. Anything Martin Canale, Tim Miller, Mark Newman are usually slam dunks to me, but then you get ones like Rogue, spider woman and vision to completely ruin the line.

Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

I think that every line, from every company, has its clunkers. I personally am not a very big fan of Koto's Daredevil, Doctor Doom, Cap, and Hawkeye statues by Sosa. So we are clear, I'm not calling them clunkers, but they just don't do it for me personally. I just think that Bowens take on those character look better. I would pick up the BD versions of those characters instead of Koto's to complete a line up.

However, that being said, Erick's other releases in the Koto line rock the house. I really like all of his other releases. Psylocke, Hulk, Warpath, Deadpool, Spidey, Gambit, Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Colossus,Venom, and Magneto come to mind when I think of the Sosa Koto statues that are fantastic.

I do agree with you that his line is very good and fairly consistant overall. It's a shame they canned his Sabretooth and Rogue statues. Those looked excellent as well.

I really hope that Erick takes on the Green Goblin soon. The diamond select marvel milestones statue of the GG is the only one I like of the character. Even that piece has its problems. It breaks easily in shipping and the paint apps are not very good. My koto Spidey needs a GG in the same scale. I'd love to see Erick do a GG statue. I'm sure it would turn out great.

I came across the Spidey piece in my local comic shop and did not like the wire for webbing at all... However when I saw the detail to the sculpt in these pics and the fact that Venom is coming out in June they are both a no brainier for a true Spidey fan. Not to mention the diorama they create together. To me this Spider-Man and Venom have a more dynamic fight scene than that of the SSC 1/4 scale pieces. Since then I have changed my mind and will be picking up both pieces so I do not miss out on this piece like I have with the comiquette in the past.

Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

Anyone have any pics of Koto Marvel statues next to Hard Hero Marvel statues?

Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

I just bought Spidey on ebay, and PO'd Venom. These will be my first Marvel pieces! :yess:

I can take one if you want to see it. I have a HH Cap and the Koto Spidey. I haven't had them next to each other to see the difference but could easily move them and snap a picture this evening.

If you could do this that would be awesome! Thanks!

Re: Kotobukiya Fine Art line

This Spidey statue is perfect. I'm glad I didn't pass because of it's size. He looks like he's 3d and jumped out of a comic.

I'm really happy with it as well. I think too many people on he get hung up on the size of a piece and pass on some really nice items.
