Most of it is a brain chemistry thing. Some people are just the addictive type and some people aren't. It's really not hard at all to get weed anyway, so in my mind, anyone who WANTS to be smoking weed already IS... so what's the big deal with making it legal and just taxing the heck out of it? Could be a good way to help our economy.

It's harder drugs that are the issue here, and that's the conundrum. If you make weed legal, than the harder drugs will come into question. I'm not a chemist (and I have never made homemade drugs in my garage or basement), but maybe anything that has to be chemically altered to make it what it is (ie: heroin, meth, X, acid, etc) should always remain illegal? But what about cocaine? I know it has to be chemically altered to make crack, but pure cocaine is all natural, right? I just confused myself....

I smoke weed now and then with friends although I know people who have got way to addicted to it and ended up being very paranoied and spending all their money on it.
Like some have mentioned here too they ended up moving on to harder drugs too which obviously didn't help anything.
I personally don't think I could get " addicted " though.
I just can't see it.. not to weed anyway.

(And I hate to say, but the @ss IS right. Doesn't make him any less of an @ss though )

Moderate alcohol use - ie: getting drunk twice or more a week (drunk defined as over the legal driving limit, which is, what, like 2 beers?) - causes just as many (if not more) issues than moderate pot use. Which leads to the hypocrisy of one being legal and one not. If you want to argue it, BOTH *could* be defined as 'gateway drugs' no matter what the science says. But that all comes back to the personality and brain chemistry of the person using the drug at hand. (and I know many more alcohol abusers that have moved on to COCAINE than pot abusers who have moved on to anything else) Plus - quite obviously, making something illegal DOESN'T STOP IT for those people anyway! If anything, the illegality of it may MAKE some people do it when they otherwise wouldn't - oh look, I'm being BAD!!

I don't smoke (pot or otherwise) because I don't want to get lung cancer. But that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed some 'special' brownies now and again Even helped my mom make some back when she was going through her second battle with cancer - she wanted to fry the herbs in CRISCO Thankfully I convinced her that butter was better
