looks like smoking weed everyday hasn't stopped me from doing anything..

there's people that abuse and can't handle eating food.. you'll find that everywhere.. doesn't make it the norm..

tax the weed..cure the deficit.. ____ the criminals.. people do it anyways.. stick your hand in the pot california (no pun intended) and get out of this hole..

i get it anyway.. dropped off in my bbq.. won't change my access to it..don't like it?.. don't do it.. I don't really like booze and cigs but I'm not going to press my preferences on someone that does.. I think both of those have much more harmful qualities than a nice fruity bongload..

just makes sense to legalize it..

thats right a coupls of my friends smoke lots and lots of pot.they spend thousands a year on it and there both alcoholics also and they both brought in over $100,000 last year.so it depends how you can handle it and dont let it effect your life in a negative way.

there are people that could take the most innocent thing like cleaning and become disfuntional with it.

there are people that can murder people or keep slaves in their basement and never let it show in their normal lives.

what do these extremes prove?

the question is what would releasing it on society as a whole mean?

by all means, CA legalize it. but if it back fires will you look for the rest of the country to bail you out from yourselves? of course you will.

your welfare system is already milking the state dry. when these welfare receipients start spending their limited income on pot instead of food and shelter, they will milk you further.

3/4 of the country already does it and will always do it.the goverment in the u.s. is so damn broke they mise well make it leagal and make some moey off it.most people want it legalized.l watched a thing on cnn today and a reporter interviewed people on the street and every one of them said they should legalize it,even the old grannies said they should

Pot makes people lazy...period. I don't know how that can be denied. I've had habitual pot smoking friends during and after college and they are undeniably the laziest of all my friends. They dropped out of college because they were too lazy to do the homework while stoned and they were fired from simple jobs like waitering at Chili's because they couldn't be bothered to go to work anymore.

Its an intellectually lazy argument to compare pot to alcohol. I am a fairly solid drinker I suppose. Probably finish a 12 pack every other week. Drink a margarita or 2 a week and maybe go through a bottle of wine every other week. But I've never had a drink before work. How many heavy pot smokers can state they don't hit up before 10am on a workday?

Drinking and smoking are different. If this was not true then the simple solution could be to tell pot enthusiasts to drink! After all, its exactly the same...:duh

Regarding crime: the only "crime" that would decrease is "possession" itself. Its plain to me that legalizing pot would lead to MORE subsidiary crime. Such as DUI, burglary, muggings, murder, child endangerment, etc. Thiefs would rob people of their pot if they knew someone was a grower or was in possession.

I don't think an objective person can honestly say legalizing pot wouldn't open a whole can of worms.

Just because you have some loser friends that happen to smoke weed, doesnt prove anything about people being lazy and adding marijuana to the equation. I know plenty of people who smoke, and smoke often, they're in better physical shape than 80% of the general public and they have good paying jobs, and a good education. These "lazy potheads" would more than likely still be just as lazy and unproductive if there wasnt weed around. I dont buy the argument that weed makes people unmotivated. You can find just as many people that smoke before work as the ones that have a drink or two before work. You could say several things make people lazy.......food, alcohol, collecting, other drugs, ect, ect.

Another way this benefits the states is that it would free up jail space for actual criminals that should be locked up. Do you see a large percent of crime based on cigarettes?..........NO, if weed becoms legal, it will be just as easy to obtain as cigarettes..........

3/4? You know thats like 225 million people. That would include newborn babies.

Newborn baby: Doctor smacked my butt so I gotta go smoke a joint.

right on! but, i cant imagine what you may have accomplished if you didn't have the habit.

The UK let it's guard down on Marijuana and downgraded the drug.
What happened? Instead of people happily smoking a mild dooby, stronger forms of the drug started to become more widespread, to the point were it had to be upgraded again.

Some societies like the Dutch seem to be able to handle certain vices like drugs and alcohol in moderation. Sadly other societies like the British can't seem to adapt, and are inclined to binge to point that it's a health issue that effects their fellow countrymen

Personally I have no problem with people smoking pit in moderation. If it gets to the point where people neglect their daily responsibilities (work, school, kids) then yeah, obviously that person has a problem and it's become an addiction.

If the government wants to legalize, tax, and regulate the sales then they need to set up some laws similar to those for alcohol.

I personally don't drink except for big occasions and have never smoked other than my time in Iraq when I was trying to fit in with the cool crowd.

Its legal to smoke it here in Uruguay, but not to sell it or grow it.
Stupid laws, that has no sense.

I smoke once a week on fridays after work, wach a movie and relax.

What? That is ridiculous. Why bother making it legal to smoke but not sell or grow?

I guess that's how Vancouver, BC was a while back too. Cops didn't care if you smoked it but they would crack down hard if you sold or grew it.

We won't be changing anyone's minds in this thread. If it happens I just hope it happens in 1 state and there is a test period of about 5 years so that the rest of the country can see if it works or not.

At the very least it needs to be decriminalized, it's immoral and incredibly destructive to ruin people's lives with jail sentences over something that does less harm than alcohol does. Let alone the massive social costs on the poor and financial costs on the country. The war on drugs has been one of the largest disasters in US policy history.
