Movie looks VERY promising.
The recent trailer also reassured me that they're taking Godzilla seriously. I think movies like CLOVERFIELD and recently PACIFIC RIM set a new precedence for these "Big Monster attacks city" movies. What I particularly like is how they're obviously drawing the character's emotions into it all, especially with the recent trailer you hear Cranston's character getting angry, being frustrated, sad, etc. Obviously Godzilla is the main star, but you also want to root for the human cast as well and they need to tug at the emotional element. So far, looks like they may have it. I also like how they're drawing on "not fully showing Godzilla". That's the best way to go, keep the beast in the dark and don't show him all until you have to. CLOVERFIELD did that really well. It also gives the sense that though Godzilla is 300+ ft. tall, he's very capable of being elusive, destructive and popping up when you least expect him.
Also looks like (and I hope) from the underground exploration scenes (where we see a clutch of "eggs" and a giant skeleton) that they could be building towards MORE super monsters. Which would be pretty interesting if Legendary pictures wants to create a bit of its own Godzilla franchise.
