Coming along slowly, lots of detail in the face, but here's where my revised illustration is currently at.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Why do they have such hard-ons for keeping the monster a secret? We know that either A.) he looks like Godzilla, or B.) he looks like a ****ing Iguana, and since Option B didn't work out so well the last time, one can only assume that they chose Option A., which means that the odds are that he looks like an updated version of a 50+ year old design.:lol

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

People love keeping secrets on movies nowadays. Even though half the world knows about or gets the just of what may happen or what the design will be like.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

It's ****ing Abrams, man. Yeah, that's right; this is your fault, Abrams! Ever since that Cloverfield ****...and Super 8...and those Smoke Monsters on LOST; ****in' Abrams, maaaaaaaan.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Yea the first trailer is better actually.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

I really hope this isn't what ends up being released in November, I want to see the SDCC 2013 trailer!

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Well, considering this is much more leaked than the other one, I'll take it just to have it, but really need a quality version, there is so much detail lacking you can't tell what you're seeing. Apparently this is a new trailer and not the same as what was used at SDCC 2013. Interesting that some footage from the 2012 teaser remains, could it be that those shots will actually be in the movie? That'd be awesome since the train is one of them, but only if Godzilla did that, if other monsters did it who cares lol.

That said, from what we did see, the cinematography and everything, I feel like this is definitely going to be an amazing movie. It would have been enough just to get a new, decent Godzilla film after so long with nothing new, but this looks like it's going to be fantastic, and I really think ATJ and Cranston are going to wow people with their performances.

I feel like the WB/Legendary combo has done it again. I hate myself for even mentioning it, but, they knew the right team to assemble and direction to go in with Batman when they turned to Nolan and co., and I feel like they did it here going with Edwards and the team they put together.

That trailer, regardless how ****ty it is, quality wise, was pretty cool. Kinda got me pumped...actually.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Wow that second trailer (regardless of the crappy quality) was awesome! Bring on the HD version.:rock

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

I refuse to get ahead of myself in glorifying this film too early on. I don't know how anybody can feel confident in saying this film is going to be great or amazing or revolutionary or bring back the giant monster genre at the moment. I'm happy people are excited for this film, but when the dust settles and the teaser is as old to us as the people who saw it back in 2012, what will we really take from it? Let's be honest here. The teasers so far just hit the easy things. We're Godzilla fans--we SHOULD see that and get excited. That means nothing.

Yes, the squished trains with the bodies littered everywhere looked fantastic. The devastation was very eerie. The hole in the building...,well, that was a bit Zilla-ish. The bug looked...weird (but big for sure).

But with what little of that may even be on screen, this movie can still fail to stand out in many ways. Good actors can't help poor writing. Considering how long it's been that even Toho put forth a very good Godzilla film, I'm still skeptical to get my expectations all high and prematurely expect greatness. This franchise has taught me this lesson before.

In fact. this genre has taught me this before. Jackson's Kong had the right mood and kept to the original rather faithfully. Yet, it's not a film I've wanted to watch again since it has come out in theaters. Also, Godzilla being portrayed as a "force of nature" is such a generalized statement that it can be good or bad. Godzilla has been depicted like that in countless films, very few of them being real quality movies in my opinion. In a film as dark and gritty that Legendary is promising us, I personally think Godzilla should lean towards the meaner, more evil side--the deliberatelly destructive beast born from mankind's cruelist hour.

I'm keeping myself from getting too excited and being let down. So much can still be neglected or miss the mark. I'm sure it will be the most visually impressive film, but I do believe there is a reason why it's been so long since there has been a truly great Godzilla film.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

I get skepticism, definitely, we do have little to go off of.

My excitement is more around these trailers confirming what other information has led me to expect. I look at what Edwards did with Monsters and these small bits of Godzilla we've gotten feel much like that film and I feel like that's a good direction.

I agree that even Toho hasn't done a great Godzilla in a long time, but I feel like the great ones were created by people involved with him from day 1 and the new generation didn't quite get it, they weren't involved in things, they were taking over having had the original stuff filtered through their minds and what came out was different from the original.

I do feel Edwards gets how to make a compelling film and how to weave Godzilla into a well done human piece. I really think this is like when WB/Legendary brought in Chris Nolan for Batman, they get the value in making just a good story and then also working in some fantastical element. I think Edwards will surprise people with the quality of his human story and he'll show the world what can be done with the genre much like Nolan showed what else can be done with comics. And like Nolan, people may try to tackle Kong or other monsters and come at it from the same angle as Godzilla, but again, unless you use the same director, you'll get imitation, not duplication.

Re: Legendary Pictures' GODZILLA - May 16, 2014

Very fair. And to be honest, the only movie I have seen of Edwards' I believe is "Monsters", which was pretty decent. I hope this works out ad fires on all cylinders. But, I just don't feel like I really know anything. I highly doubt it'll be a bad film. But so many pitfalls here. It's difficult to make a great Godzilla film because the general public wants so many different things. Even the fandom is probably split if they would rather Godzilla be the true radioactive horror he started out as or the hero to fight off waves of sci-fi monsters like he was in the 70's.

All I know is that cinematography better be top-notch. Visually, this movie has no excuse to not be a treat for the eyes. Godzilla should come out of a mountain or the ocean or a volcano and it should be the most majestic appearance (or one of them) in the series. If they can give Godzilla a strong entrance and a great exit, I'll be satisfied at this point.
