Definitely not, not without a huge budget. I think that's where it struggled with the overall box office, the big grossing films of PR's type like Transformers are based on a established characters, it's tough trying to do something with new ones and have so many.

I just would have liked more time with the likes of Knifehead and Slattern, they're cool designs but had such short screen times.

I would say PacRim's main problem with the audience is that there is way to much put into the exposition in the beginning. It's still my favorite film of last year but it's like watching the dark knight rises without having seen begins or dark knight.

I like what I'm hearing about Jaws and Godzilla. That sounds terrific.

There's a new jaws movie coming out?

From what I gather, our first monster encounter is Godzilla in '54, but we'll see. I wonder if we see him in full or if the nuke goes off shortly after his spines breach.

Hmm…I was thinking that would be a flashback…but yeah maybe not. If it's the start of the film, I'm guessing we won't see much of big G there. Just the spines.

:lol Com'ere, Wezzy. You get a noogie

BIG SPOILER INFO IN THIS ONE

Keep it away from me! :horror

Jaws kicks ***, just watched it yesterday.

Shark is the worst part of the movie, characters all kick ***. :lol

Almost put you on the ignore list. But then I saw your other post... So while I get what you are saying... Bruce is not the worst part of the film.... This was the worst part of the film...

and I still love her :)

Your kid's a genius, I said the same thing when PR opened and people on the thread where "Oh but it's a fun throw back, we can't have no suspense" :lol

In retrospective, it was Celtic so, nevermind :lol

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope Godzilla is nothing like Pacific Rim. :lol

No kidding.... though I did enjoy it more on a second viewing.

Me to. For a movie that I wanted to like I ended up not liking it at all. I mean yea it was cool and all but the characters were just so damn weak and generic. The monsters were cool but some of the fights were just so slow paced. I just didnt really enjoy it like I wanted to. Ah well. SHoulda just made Evangalion:(

I hated the final fight under water.... They blew there load with the Japan fight in the middle of the film.

Pacific Rim just plays out like a young fanboy's fantasy brought to life with CGI instead of action figures at home. Only one character was really developed, the human story was average, the fights short, kaiju shots brief. It just doesn't come off as a movie trying to be anything more than spectacle.

That is a perfect way to describe the film.

Oh, and jye, Bruce is one of the greatest creature effects in the history of cinema and blows away half the CGI creatures out there.

This is a statement of FACT!

Showing Bruce like that was more of a technical thing rather than an artistic decision, it plays great… but that wasn't the intent…
As for PR, even GDT has said what it was… so… :dunno

Yep... It was like the stars aligned to allow JAWS to become a perfect film... Not only did it force SS to come up with other ways to film the shark but it also allowed the SS, Carl Gottlieb, and much of the cast to work on the script.... Had the shark worked JAWS would have been a good film but not the perfect film that it is.

:exactly:

As close to a 'perfect' film, as it gets.

I always say this to everyone... The film is perfectly paced filled with characters that we love and want to know... I want to live on that Island!! It's scary, funny, exciting, suspenseful, touching, and even a little romantic. It is just perfect :)

PS I am not biased ;)

I just realized that this comes out between ASM 2 and X-men. While godzilla is my number one film of the three, I know that's not how it'll play out with the GA. I have a feeling this film won't do as well as it should given it's release date, but i really hope I'm wrong, there's not more I'd like than a Godzilla franchise to thrive. Hopefully the WW boxoffice will be better for G than the other two movies.

I think the movie is going to be a huge hit (if it comes out being good) I'm sure they will start promoting it much heavier next month and if critics and then later audiences love it, I feel like it could easily be the biggest movie of spring/summer.
